We came to Mallorca specifically for kouign amann. With such close proximity to France, we knew we'd be able to find a few good options in Madrid and we were not disappointed with Mallorca.
Since we got to the cafe 15 minutes early, we were able to see it open and observe the morning traffic of regulars, delivery drivers, and staff. There was a steady business of people picking up pastries for catering. Delivery drivers came in to pick up box after box of sweets. Students and business women and retirees and tourists sat down for a coffee and pastry for breakfast.
We were surprised to have a full service experience when we sat down in the cafe. A waitress took care of us throughout our breakfast, even giving me a card that explained how long I should steep my green tea before drinking it.
We both had an avocado toast with our choice of bread, smoked salmon, and a kouign amann. Our drinks came with two tiny Magdalenas (a tiny cupcake-like sweet). I also had fresh-squeezed orange juice that was sweet and not bitter. The kouign amann was better than 98% of the ones we could find back home in Seattle.
