On my way from Retiro park to Mercado de La Paz to check out Casa Dani's famous tortilla, I stopped mid block, backtracked and stared into the storefront windows of this pastelería. A 5 minute detour it was. I couldn't help but be drawn in by the beautiful pastry displays. They were certainly eye-catching with so many freshly baked pastries and desserts immaculately laid out. On a central island inside the entrance were elegant red and white packages for their giftable cookies and chocolate sets. Unfortunately I didn't pick any of these up since I didn't want to carry them around all day, though I would highly consider dropping by next time. Getting to the pastries and cakes--the tortell looked intriguing since it's not one I've seen much outside of Spain, their version was a simplified edition for everyday, compared to the ones decorated with candied fruits and nuts for Día de Reyes (King's Day) holiday in January. Flaky outside shaped in a ring with marzipan inside, sprinkled with powdered sugar. Tasty indeed! They serve a variety of sweet and savory treats, desserts, coffees and teas, brunch and lunch items here. When I dropped by on a Monday morning in September it wasn't too crowded though I can see how it might be during weekends and high season. I also appreciated the kindness and patience of the staff as I snapped a few pics then took my time deciding what to get!

Very friendly service. The croissants were amazing! Their outdoor area is also perfect, specially if you are a pup parent and want a place to enjoy some bake goods. Definitely a must if you are ever in Madrid!

This is such a beautiful and quaint cafe! We had finished having a very late lunch down the street and we're craving something sweet with a coffee. Saw there was a line so we figured it must be good considering it was about 5:30. We waited about 20-25 minutes in line but didn't mind. There are tables outside that seem to be first come first serve, but it felt too cold for us to dine outside. Once we got taken to our table inside we were able to warm up. Despite being so busy, our waitress came over pretty quickly and explained the menu to us. We ended up ordering 2 cappuccinos, a strawberry tart, a lemon tart, and a small bottle of water. Our coffees were delicious, as were our pastries. The bottle of water was incredibly small though, but it's Europe. The total came out to about 19€ which is kinda pricey for Madrid, but it's in a busy and touristy area. I would come back here just for the fact that they stay open during siesta time lol. It is incredibly annoying trying to find something to eat or drink in the afternoon since most places close and don't reopen till late. This place came in clutch when we wanted an afternoon pick me up.

Nice ambience and the coffee was good. Tried the Spanish omelette which was like hash browns and egg combined into a thick patty over bread. Wish they added some condiments to make it less dry.

Established by Bernardino Moreno in 1931, and still built around his original recipes across several storefronts, Pasteleria Mallorca has grown into a full-service Restaurant serving sweets, savories and an extensive collection of gourmet products. Always made on-site, with Pastries varying from morning to night, it is upon entry that eyes widen to the sprawling space on Calle de Serrano, its outdoor patio filled with customers enjoying Beverages while shelves contain everything from Sandwiches and Charcuterie to Viennoiseries. Now found from Tokyo to Mexico City, each store similar but also attuned to local traditions, Mallorca's Mille Feuille knows better than to compromise a classic and thus features shattering layers divided by Pastry Cream while the Almond Croissant skips Frangipane in favor of Nuts and a bit of essence amidst admirable honeycombing. Skipping Ensaimadas in favor of Kouign Amann, a mistake as the latter had clearly sat on shelves longer than ideal, Tortell came highly recommended by staff with good reason, the Catalonian Pastry usually served at Epiphany lightly glazed and puffy with Marzipan Filling.

What a beautiful café right near Salmanca and El Retiro park. It gave us a nice and relaxing break after walking around the park on the way to shopping. It has all kinds of sweet and savory pastries and was bustling with crowds. There are plenty of tables outside for people watching if you don't mind a Gypsy old lady guarding the entrance. We opted to sit downstairs where they still have tables and a wine cellar. It was a lot quieter and has separate wait staff. Nevertheless, our wait staff was quite slow. It took us a long time to get his attention and menu to look at options. We ended up getting their Iberia jamon sandwich with coffee brunch menu. The jamon was of high quality and therefore, quite pricey. If you just order any ordinary bocadillos, you would spend less than 6 euro easily for a breakfast. I would give this place a 5 star if the wait was not so long. Otherwise, I really enjoy the food and the atmosphere.

Delicious foods and charming cafe for dine in or take out. Came here before hitting the Prado museum, and it worked out well! For it being a breakfast cafe, was surprised that it wasn't open until 9am. (Wanted to beat the tourist bus crowds at the museum, but didn't really work.) Once sat down a waitress will bring a tray to show you what sweet pastries they have. We picked the Spanish breakfast and a savory (Salado) breakfast combo. And ordered an extra juce per our waitress's recommendation. Breakfast is a light plate but very satisfying. (Thought it would be more food based on price but it isn't; and then felt so American for thinking that way lol). They have a sweets shop downstairs, everything look so good! But since we were trying to get in and out to make sure we stay on track with our itinerary, we didn't get to check the sweets out. Overall, highly recommend for quality food!

I decided to stop here for dinner shortly after I checked into my hotel. It was within a 2 minute walk and had a large variety of tapas and deserts to choose from. The experience was nice. The service was good and the food was fantastic. A nice surprise and inexpensive. So if you are looking for a quick bite and like sample plates, then it's worth a stop.

Nothing like an outdoor Pasteleria in a lovely section of Madrid

The wait staff don't seem to speak English or they just don't want to. Perfectly reasonable to me. It isn't America. You have a smart phone, look it up. An outdoor cafe in a high end part of Madrid where you can sit just under the shade, enjoy a latte or a nice glass of vino blanco in the late afternoon and watch the world go by. I had the quinoa with tofu and sun dried tomatoes. It wasn't spectacular, but it was healthy and went well with my empty stomach. After I was finished with my eats, the waitress came by with a massive tray of sugar bombs of which I did not partake as I was in wine drinking mode. Put your smart phone down and forget you have one. Sip your wine and enjoy the sites and sounds of Madrid. That's the best advice I can give.

The best place to have a mid-day snack in Madrid! The pastries, breads, and coffee are exquisite and the service is prompt and professional! With good weather, the outside seating is a great spot to enjoy a nice coffee and people-watch!
