I've been going here for years on and off and about 7 months or so ago I started the VIP service because it's so close to my apartment. I'm really considering canceling because the beds are always so dirty. It's insanely disgusting and today topped it off. I went in and asked for a regular bed which she had to clean and there was nobody there... not one car in the parking lot so why I had to wait for a clean bed to begin with is beyond me. Once I got in and undressed and LAID DOWN I felt scum underneath me. I looked around and saw so much dried sweat and lotion marks all over the bed. And this isn't new. It's the third time total at two different Malibu locations in the last 2 months. I took my towel and started wiping the bed and it gummed up so bad and just started to smear. Check out the pictures. Scott better get a handle on these young girls he's hiring and teach them how to clean beds because I'm ready to take pictures and possible videos every time I find a dirty bed. Oh! And get this...When I told the girl to come clean my bed again I had to wait about 3-5 minutes while she leaned over the counter talking to her friend. I watched her clean my bed and she never touched the sides or the top... beware tanners and check your bed before you tan! If it wasn't so close I would have canceled already! read more

Avoid this place! Very shady business practices. They closed my account over a year ago and just recently received a bill from them where they have reopened my account because they said I didn't give 30 days notice or sign a piece of paper! Now, they are threatening to send me to collections! Buyer beware! If you want a great place to go and deal with ethical business practices go to Tiki Tan on Cassopolis Street just down the road. I love for one that this company is owned by one person so all the locations are linked and I can hit any salon no matter where I am in the area. The management is always extremely helpful and if I ever have any issues she is quick to make sure to resolve the issue in a timely manor. Malibu has been around for a LONG time and there's a reason - COLOR RESULTS. They have the best top lines of lotion, color boosters and even a special airbrush solution that is only available at Malibu! You literally can't get it ANYWHERE else. They own the solution! It's DHA based too so I never ever get coppery color or orange. The employees always make sure to keep track of my bed rotation & check in on how I'm doing. I always end up having an hour long conversation with the staff whenever I go in because they're just so awesome and fun to talk to. Not only do I love the color I get from Malibu and their products, but I always leave smiling because the staff is so involved and helpful. read more

I work out of town alot so I am not able to go on a regular basis. I had bought a large package awhile ago. When I last went in February, I had about $200 left. Now in May I have nothing. They say it expired. I was never told of an expiration limit. I called the corporate office but no one calls me back. Now I only get voice mail. Time to see an attorney! read more

This place is a complete joke. I had suspended my account for three or four months too decide weather or not I wanted to use these tanning services at all anymore. I received my first call and voicemail from these people in May about my account. I tried calling back in MAY, to close my account and to speak to the manager multiple times who now "claims" she left me multiple voicemails that I never received. I left messages with the associates there and the messages clearly never got through. I just called again today because only as of yesterday did I receive a call back from them and finally got the manager on the phone. After kindly asking if they could remove the charges due to the fact I haven't been able to get ahold of them and I also haven't been in ONE time since December, she told me there was nothing she could do and I have to pay $92 dollars now for a service I never use and has been trying to cancel for months. Needless to say their lack of helpfulness with customer service and communication is a joke. These people will give you a complete run for your money if you don't keep an eye out. I will never use this tanning service again. What a waste of time. Very shady business practices. Update*** I went in to pay the $92 dollars to get my account closed and to put this all behind me. The girl at the counter told me that I had to give a thirty day notice to close my account. After trying to explain to her that I've been trying to close my account since May and have had no luck in response from her associates and talked to her manager prior about closing the account. It's been three months, and I just want to reiterate that I haven't been in one time for any service since trying to close my account, that I've made multiple attempts to contact, and the sole reason I was charged $92, which originally was around $30 at the beginning of this whole process, and simply because they could never get back to me to help! After I asked her to call her manager I again got told she would be in till a specific time and that I could come back. At this point I was extremely irritated because this has been nothing but a waste of my time, I've already called numerous times as stated to close the account and then they want me to come back in again?? Anyways she let me pay the $92 but best believe you will not get another dime out of me so don't even bother. Again this place is extremely unprofessional save yourself some, time, money, and stress and go somewhere else. What a joke. read more

If you are looking for a reliable place to keep your golden glow all year long, GO ANYWHERE BUT MALIBU!!! This company is full of shameless money grubbers. I am a single mother and tanning was the cheapest form of luxury I could afford myself, I chose Malibu for its convenient location and BECAUSE it was cheapest. Everything about it is cheap. UNTIL they decided to change the policy and force its patrons to buy memberships. You can no longer buy a single session and the contracts they make you sign are designed to screw over the customer. As I said, I am a single mother, I do not receive child support or government help so my pockets are tight most of the time. I went to cancel my so-called flex membership and was told I had to cancel 30 days in advance to keep them from charging me. They were going to charge me no matter what. And it turns out they have been charging me every month since that day because I haven't signed the paperwork to make it stop. I have incurred two overdraft fees because of this disgusting soulless corporate monster. And PS their beds sucked. They're cheap. Because of what they charge now you are much better off at Tiki Tan. And the beds at Tiki than have built in I-pod docks and the place is bright and clean. Happy Tanning. read more

Very disappointed with Malibu. Been a customer since 2010 and I don't go every year but recently went to my location on CR 17 and found out they expired my membership....though I paid a lot of $ and did VIP pkgs every year. Talked to the Mgr who said she would look into it and said her staff was new so they shouldn't have said they expired my membership...so I gave the mgr over 1 week to send me a history of what transpired and she didn't...so I would say buyer beware.....get a copy of your history every time you go there and get something in writing that if you don't go for a while they won't expire your membership. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. They are super shady about their billing practices. I can name dozens of people that I know personally who were served with false collections or charged for accounts that should have been closed - they even have their paperwork. There are similar complaints on the Better Business Bureau website. I guess business isn't doing so hot so the owner must be desperate for money or something - but fraudulent collections against former customers isn't the way to do it. read more

the staff was nice, but with the decor made it feel like I was in a circus. I also was in a level 1 bed, which needed a good cleaning. The acrylic was old and there were several dust bunnies and hair visible inside. Also, there were areas where lotion has been caked on the bed shocks and it attracted dust to collect. I used to work in the tanning industry and I understand how difficult it can be to clean beds; especially ones that are aged. But this bed hasn't been torn down and scrubbed in some time-even during a bulb change. I was able to look at the higher level beds and those looked good at first glance, but probably won't be returning solely on the cleanliness of the level 1 bed I was in. read more
