Delicious Cornish pasties!!! For those who have never heard of Cornish pasties, they are basically…read moreoversized empanadas or baked pies filled with beef, potatoes and onions. Personally I prefer empanadas, but Barnecutt makes pretty darn delicious pasties with variety of fillings. According to my sister, it's supposedly the best local pasty shop. I tried a few different kinds, and my favorite was beef curry! Very fattening, but hey, everyone should be allowed to pig out while on vacation! Screw diet, viva carb!!!

One thing I am eternally grateful for is that there are very few Greggs in Cornwall. This means…read morethat proper bakeries like Barnecutt's are able to survive and thrive, and we can continue to enjoy decent food when we're out shopping. Barnecutt's is a great bakery serving a variety of hot food, bread and cakes, but what I really love is the pizza. For £1.50 you can get a decent sized slice of hot pizza. There's tomato, cheese & pineapple, pepperoni and vegetarian to choose from, all delicious. The base is really thick, sauce full of flavour and they don't skimp on the cheese. I cannot fault it. My only complaint is that you can't buy full pizzas. Like a lot of their hot snacks, they are served to you in a 3 sided box for easy street-eating and then wrapped in a paper bag. The staff are friendly and everything is well made, super tasty and good value for money. A word of warning for anyone hoping to visit the Liskeard bakery: get in quick before the lunch time rush or you might miss out on the good stuff! There aren't enough bakeries like this left in the UK and we need to support those we have left!

Great little bakery that is a longstanding tradition on the Padstow waterfront strand…read more Traditional Cornish pasties are the big draw, with apparently award-winning pastry and lovely, moist potato and meat filling enriched with a dash of clotted cream. The chicken version also has leeks, while the beef seems to contain a root vegetable, either turnip or Swede, maybe? Regardless, they are both delicious. A friend tried the lamb and mint, reporting lovely flavor, but a bit of chewiness to the sparse meat tidbits, The Chough's treacle tart is very tasty, with bright flashes of lemon zest here and there to lighten the molasses top notes and sugary richness before it becomes overwhelming. The Bakewell tart is also very nice though it uses sliced almonds instead of the more traditional almond paste, which isn't to everyone's taste. Finally, we took some of the scones home to eat with piles of jam and clotted cream, and they proved up to the task, though otherwise unremarkable as scones always are.

And The Chough's pasties are made of the most wonderful fillings and crust, especially the rolled bit that you grab on to whilst eating out the center bit. If you find yourself in Padstow, go on, contribute to the local economy and sink your teeth around a real bit of British culinary history. God bless the Pasty. God bless The Chough.

Hooray for vegan pasties!!!!! Pretty sure this is the only, or maybe one of VERY FEW places in St…read more Ives to do a VEGAN pastie. Coming to Cornwall and walking past bakery after bakery of pastries and cakes as a vegan can be super depressing because even regular vegetarian pastries almost always contain egg or dairy, but not this place!!! Their vegetarian pastie is also suitable for vegans!!! (the staff are knowledgeable, but it also specifies this on the sign) I was so excited at being able to eat a pastry, I took mine right down to the seafront to eat only for a seagull to flap around my head and steal it *tries not to cry as everyone around me laughs* was extremely heart-breaking... But no matter I marched straight back to buy a replacement, explaining to the staff that no I hadn't just eaten a giant pastie and wanted a second (I wish) we all laughed and I continued to cry on the inside, but my second pastie definitely hit the spot and made me forget all about the thieving seagulls! So yes I highly recommend to all my fellow vegans to come to this place, so you don't have to watch on as everyone around you eats Cornish pasties while you can not. You CAN eat a Cornish pastie and nothing, not even seagulls or dairy or eggs can stop you!

The pastry on the pasty was lovely and flaky, however I would have liked a bit more flavor to the actual filling. We also got a sausage roll that was excellent! I actually preferred it over the pasty. Light flaky pastry and really tasty sausage. There was no queue and the price wasn't too bad.
