Well-stocked store. Friendly service. A great place for supplies along Highway 11 between Kona and Hilo.

Sometimes they are out of what I want to purchase, but for the most part, they have an excellent selection of goods and their cashiers are always friendly and helpful. Plus they donate to the Community Center for Thanksgiving and other events for the citizens. read more

I get that there isn't much in Ocean View so you gotta take what you can get. But $12.56 for a can of chew was small kine cray cray. Considering that they could probably by a roll at Costco for about $6.50 a can. Oh well, I was desperate and had to take what I could get. read more

I'm not sure where Trish Brown came from but WOW. The new Grocery Manager is awesome. New products such as organic buttermilk which is so good. Goat cheese yogurt. Potatoes and garlic are now refrigerated. Last time I was in there they had just gotten in some kind of Island punch. The freezers are operating. Nice assortment better merchandising. This stores on an upswing. I'm excited to drive there now. read more

After driving for what seems an eternity on lava filled windy road, this market is a welcome brake. The market is well organized and clean. There's also a small ready to eat warm dishes and desserts. The staff are very helpful and greet you with a smile. I love that they've considered those of us that need to use the restrooms after a long drive from the other part of the Island. Malama Market is a subsidiary of Foodland. They have 2 other locations on the island. I admit I rarely go to Malama Market OV unless I'm going to the Red Box. The cashiers are friendly, but they carry a very small selection of organic food. The store does have a nice produce section, but everything else is conventional processed food. If that's your bag then they will have all your provisions. The store is clean, well organized, and is great supermarket option in OV. read more

Malama Market... again, I root for the underdog... I've been frequenting this market during my stay on the big island simply because while I'm here, I'm living close to it and there aren't many markets close to Miloli'i. However, during my stay here, I must admit... this market has just about everything I need (vegetables, fresh baked goods, liquor, bug spray, liquor, odd japanese shrink-wrapped meats, liquor, greek yogurt... liquor...) you get the picture... The same chick is always working the check out, which makes me both happy and sad. Happy because she's friendly and nice, and also sad because I know there's some funky shit happening in Ocean View and she has to deal with it. Needless to say, I love this market for the goods they provide and the also, the entertainment... for those of you who have had the pleasure of reading my review of my neighborhood Fred Meyer, you know I appreciate some good people watching. This is on a whole different level. This is, dare I say, elite. (gasp!) I've seen some shady people, some tweekin' people, some vehicles that I didn't think could drive, with people who probably shouldn't have been able to operate them at this place and strangely I know that it is just a typical day here. This is a very cute little grocery store! It's compact, but they actually carry a wide variety of produce and packaged goods. There are also a number of ready-made items such as sandwiches, salads, and hot lunches which they make there at the store. The associates are always very friendly and helpful, and checkout is smooth. read more

This is a full service grocery store, with high end produce, lots of wine selections, fresh bread, fresh food and a terrific selection. Cold beverages, ice and everything you need for a trip to the southern most point in the USA - yahoo - you can't go wrong here. Head on in and they are the happiest staff and helpful. Great place and don't worry if you left something behind, you will find it here. they are also besides a gas station, so you can pick up supplies, re-gas and be on your way and enjoy terrific quality and options. This is a very bad store. One of the checkers stole money from me and the store refused to take action. The groceries are extremely over priced and under stocked. The employees look so unhappy while working, that you just wanna leave and go elsewhere! read more

Malama Market has a great selection of produce and everything else you will need. The staff are all very friendly, however, all their dairy products spoil before the expiration date. We have seen milk sitting in the isle without being put away immediately. We have bought cheese and all the pieces were melted together, again from getting too warm. read more

Check your produce and baked good very closely, rats often have bitten through into the food...prepared food isn't any better, as it's prepared in same disgusting store. The cashiers are openly apathetic, and it sometimes takes 20 minutes just to check out, as the staff loves to talk story. With Only Two markets in Ocean View to choose from this is my Go To Option. They always have a great selection of produce and fruit. The dairy section is much more diverse than their competitor across the street. Whenever I don't feel like cooking they have Whole Huli Chicken and other Hot to go foods . The dessert section also has various treats to select from.....You can buy a whole Cheesecake , Cake or Pie or just single servings. Prices seem to Vary between store so it's a good idea to shop between the two. For such a small store they have a Good Selection. read more

Malama is my go to store. Since the market in Naalehu closed this is our closest market. I can always find what I need here, even obscure items I don't think they will have but I check anyway and they do! Often their sale prices are better than some on th large chains in Kona. The staff is always helpful and there are always workers in the aisles that can help you. They have a decent stock of liquor, beer and other spirits as well. The cashiers are nice too. The only time I've seem them become abrupt is when they are trying to help a customer who is bein a jerk! But they alway return a kind smile and converstation when customers do the same. We love Malama! read more

I was in this store about 1:20 Nov 1, there was one new girl checking, she was having problems and calling for help, there were at least 6 people in line, I waited for as long as I could stand it and finally just set my basket on one of the open check stands and walked out. Also you might want to remind the employees how close to the front door you can stand and smoke cigarettes read more

My husband and I stopped in today to buy some food to take to the beach as we are visiting. An employee (woman) VERY RUDE was putting sandwiches on the shelf in the cold section - we were going to buy about 8 of them and we stood their patiently as she continued to look at us and not move or say a word. Finally my husband said can we take these to buy? They were the sandwiches that she was taking out of the box and putting on the shelves and she said so rudely "NO YOU CANT" and pointed at 1 laying below that she had removed and said "you can buy this"- (not sure what the date was on it) but she turned back around and refused to let us purchase or pick out a sandwich- i tried to get one off the shelf, I waited and said excuse me and she did not respond or move- I have never been treated so poorly and felt like an out sider as we did today in this store- do the locals hate unfamiliar faces here? We've had an amazing experience on the Big Island and this treatment was shocking- I plan on calling the manager Betty tomorrow as her name is on the receipt and share this. Sadly my husband and I left feeling so uncomfortable without any sandwich purchases. It was about the most unkind uncomfortable rude feeling I have had directed at me by another person, let alone an employee- I will never go back to this market- read more
