After reading about horror stories of post rental charges for existing car damage by larger rental car companies like Enterprise and Hertz, whom are reputable stateside but have numerous reports of questionable claims, I talked to those who live in Spain and others travel there yearly and they all said they had a great experience with Malagacar. So I signed up and was suprised you don't pay until you arrive for pick up and they got me the Audi A1 model of sport hatchback that I asked for as they are rare in the states but am familiar with Audis an it for great mileage and held all the luggage easily. The car has some dings for sure but the parking is so tight in Spain in both small towns and cities that it's common. The car was ready and clean with a full tank and no cigarettes odor. They provided maps and the pick up process was quick at the near airport location in Malaga. The return was also quick and they email you the bill (and contract upon arrival), so far no extra charges ! Some people get camera speeding tickets that get charged through the rental company a this is the system for all Spain with a $40 administration fee from the rental car is also standard. (Camera sections have signs alerting you but if you are viewing the scenery an focused on the winding roads you can miss them). I got my International Drivers Permit from AAA for $20, which you will not find the requirement for in most of the Spain website but police will ask for it and you can get an additional ticket if you are a Non EU citizen. One of the main reasons for de ring from Malaga car was their insurance is included and much more reasonable in cost that almost all the others! I would definitely use Malaga Car again, especially the location near city center and not but 15 minutes from the airport! Enjoy Espana! Never again. Paid extra for top package for convertible car. They never received/acknowledged any of my emails. Took ages to collect car (no designated counter as described) long queue. Poor man serving us was working his fingers to the bone and highly stressed. Car was dirty. Convertible roof didn't work for 3 of the 7 days. They refused to reimburse any of my payment. Sent about 5 emails before they replied. Disgusting attitude. Will never use this company ever again. Centauro have always been good. We'll go back to them in future. read more

Unfortunately, I am have to resort to posting online in order to get my issue resolved. I've rented from Malagacar a number of times and have always had a good experience. After my last trip, Malagacar had sent through 2 speeding tickets under my name, but I only rented 1 car so one ticket was misallocated to me. Yes, one speeding ticket was correct and Belen confirmed on 5 July that this was indeed correct and that they would take care of it. I had emailed a follow up 10 Aug and again 4 Sep. Finally,I called and Jose picked of the phone and said that I had to 'email them' for them to take care of it to which I responded that I had 3 times already, with no response. I asked if Jose could ensure that this gets looked at and Jose's response was "I don't know, we will look at it when we can. We have a lot of emails". Considering that I had followed up a number of times, I think it is fair for me to make this more public until somebody is able to resolve this situation. I rented a minivan back in May, with two booster seats. I would never rent from malagacar again, or recommend it for anyone. 1) Their office is located outside of the airport -- which is fine by itself, but this is definitely something to consider when your flight arrives at an odd hour. 2) The booster seats were not the same ones pictured in the website. The website clearly showed highback boosters, but the ones we got (apparently the only ones they have) were backless. 3) There was a €1000 "refundable" deposit for the rental - not a "hold" but an actual "charge". I was told (AFTER I had already swiped the card) this is because I was using American Express. I had never seen an actual charge go through for deposits at other rental agencies, but this being 1AM already, I decided to just take their word for it. The agent told me the refund should show up within a week of returning the car. Here is how it played out: 5/17: return car, everything checks out fine, no damage to the car, gas is correct amount. 5/26: credit card bill is due, and the amount is still there. Figuring this is a simple mistake, I have AmEx dispute team contact them so that I wouldn't have to make international calls. 6/20: AmEx gets back to me saying malagacar claims the €1000 was a "franchise fee" that is non-refundable. I sent AmEx copies of my original email receipt saying that the amount is refundable deposit. 7/6: AmEx gets back again, malagacar still denying they overcharged me, even sending copies of documents that apparently show that this is a "franchise fee". At this point I called malagacar, and on the phone the rep admitted that I was right and the refund should go through that week. This does not happen that week, or the following week. 7/26: I file another dispute with AmEx, this time with a recording of the malagacar representative saying that they are going to refund €1000. 9/28: More than 4 months after I returned the car to malagacar, AmEx finally decides I'm in the right and €1000 is credited to my account. The part that infuriates me the most is their insistence to my credit card company that the amount was a non-refundable fee, while telling me at the same time that it was a deposit that will be refunded. This was not a case of incompetence, but clear fraud. read more

We hire a rental car several times a year in Malaga and for the last few years always from Malagacar. They provide a good service and very good value and the cars are in good condition. Have never had a problem although picking up or dropping off at the train station was not so satisfactory so we always now pick up at the airport even if travelling by train. read more

They are fair and friendly, located in the airport. I don't want any hassle, no hidden costs when I book a car. Used Malaga Car religiously for years, even heading to Malaga Airport instead of Gibraltar for their 'no mess' ethic when going to Tarifa (150km closer). This time though was different and I've found myself massively out of pocket. This time, instead of 'freezing' the 1000EU deposit, they actually took it out of my account. This meant I was charged an extra £27 foreign transaction fee from my bank. When the 1000EU goes back in I'll be charged yet another £23 for the transaction fee. This means a 200EU rental has hiked upto 270EU. When it came to make the payment at the desk, as usual the representative said "includes 1000eu deposit", only it Wasn't as usual was it. I phoned them from the UK after getting home and someone 'upstairs' told me the debit was made for extra security. This is rubbish. In the past they froze the amount, it is not possible for the card holder to unfreeze that money, it's only possible by malaga car. What malagar gains by this is the interest% that they make when everybodies bank accounts are raided for the full deposit, instead of frozen for the weeks of rental. You have no excuse. Your few euros of interest has cost me 70eu! read more

Used to be a good upfront reliable company, with clear pricing. They now charge an additional 'service fee' if you don't take the full tank of fuel. This isn't in the headline rate and isn't clear when booking online. On return they also didn't make clear what would be refunded from the v large deposit (1000 euros) taken from your card, so you have no visibility of what they are actually charging until you get home. Now I feel really bad for the previous reviewer, but I believe that the situation would be as unfortunate with any other car rental company... and that's why you always have to cover as much as possible with insurance. We rent a car from MalagaCar around 4 times per year and have yet not been let down. My parents that are a little older really appreciate that MalagaCar pick them up right outside the entrance at the Malaga Airport as opposed to run all the way to the basement inside the airport to stand in line at one of the other car rental desks. When they are departing, they go to the MalagaCar office and then they get dropped off at the airport again! LOVE IT, 10 stars for the awesome pick up/drop off service!! Pricing is competitive and I like that you can return the car either half full or empty gas tank. Also, I appreciate the personal service; the staff always respond quickly on email! I rate MalagaCar 5 stars as we have never had any issues with them and we love the pick up/drop off at the airport and because of their nice staff! Strongly recommended! read more

Can't fault MalagaCar.com at all. We would recommend this company to anyone who wants a reliable hire car with fantastic customer service for their holiday. We hired a car from MalagaCar.com earlier this year. We had problems with our airline and missed the connection from London to Malaga. We were supposed to collect the car early afternoon, and contacted the office to advise that we were still making our way but would be unsure what time we would arrive. They said that they would wait for us to arrive. Due to the route we had to take we did not arrive at MalagaCar.com until almost 11pm. There were two members of staff who waited for us. We were picked up at the airport and taken to the office. Our car was waiting for us on arrival and after a few minutes taking details etc. we were on our way. The staff at MalagaCar.com were very friendly, very courteous and extremely helpful. Their service was second to none. And when we were tired after a long day's travel that had not gone to plan, they were there with big smiles to help us. It was the first time that we had used MalagaCar.com to hire a car and we will not hesitate to use them again. We couldn't be more pleased with the service that we received from this company. For over 10 years I have been a client of Malagacar.com. 4 to 5 times a year I rent a car at this company for a period of 4 to 6 weeks. Also, many of my friends and family rent their cars at this company, this on my advice. Until now I was satisfied, the cars are generally in good condition and the prices are competitive. Nevertherless from now on I will never do more business with this company for the following reason.Two days ago I was robbed of all my personal belongings including the car key. When I contacted Malagacar.com to inform them of the situation I was just told by the employee that this event wasn't covered by the insurance (the maximum) i had and that it will cost me money, € 130 for a new key + another 100 € for bringing me the spare key. Not one word of empathy not even annoying for you. When finally the spare key was brought i was informed that they had tried to book off € 230 from my credit card, pay attention THIS WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION. It failed because my credit card was already blocked. When returning the car I asked to speak to the manager about this situation, he did not even have the courtesy to speak to me. All communication was via one of the employees. Despite repeated requests to show me an indication of the price of a new key and my question on which the amount of € 100 for bringing the spare key was based i got no answer. I had to pay and that was it.They have lost a client today and I will certainly inform my friends and family about this treatment. Still useful to know if you decide not to take the extra insurance offered by them, Malagacar.com will book off a deposit of the same amount as the amount of the rent from your credit card. This amount will be refunded to your account when the car is returned but in the meantime your credit will be limited because of their transaction. read more

I have to say, I was skeptical when booking for the first time. However, arriving at the airport, it was evident that a LOT of people use them. That definitely made me feel better. Other than the LONG line of people renting from them, i had no problem with them. I would recommend full coverage, their price is reasonable and gives you a peace of mind. If you don't get full coverage, they hold 1000 euros. They have plenty of shuttles commuting people back and forth from the airport. I would use them again and also recommend them! read more

If you don't want to be ripped off, don't rent a car at Malagacar.com! Secondly, if you would like to arrive at your destination in time, also don't rent here! My family rented cars for about 10 times at Malagacar.com so we could be considered as loyal customers. Never was any warranty been charged to the credit card: not to mine, not to my sister's card, not to my parent's card. Now: my parents arrived at Malaga airport a few weeks ago at 11PM and they received a car, which was parked in the dark, in a corner of the parking lot. They were charged the fee of the rental AND for the first time a warranty of 1200 EUR. They were tired, it was dark, and they left without explicitly indicating the damage (which seems normal after 10 times at the same company). When they arrived at their destination they noticed that the car was heavily damaged and took some pictures, which they emailed to Malagacar.com the day after. Of course, no reaction. Another email, no reaction. After the holiday they come back to Malagacar.com to find an agressive person at the booth who is blaming them to have caused the damage. They showed the pictures that are taken 1 hour after their departure but this rude person wouldn't even look at them. A few weeks later an email came that they charge 340 EUR for something my parents didn't even cause. So conclusion: if you want to have a careless holiday with a rental car and don't want to worry about being ripped off, look for another rental company in Malaga. read more
