Car broke down. Was handled reasonably OK…read more
Minus: The booking was very informal (just short lines by e-mail) which left me nervous if it would work out.
Plus: Ignacio Velasco was at the Ronda train station at the agreed time with the car.
Plus: The car initially worked, sort of.
Minus: The car was not very good. Very weak on the hills and the sunshade at the passenger seat fell down upon touch.
Minus: The car broke down in a rural area of the Cadiz province, more than an hour's driving from Ronda. It had been increasingly weak until the gearbox gave up completely. It was new years day.
Plus: Ignacio came with his daughter and one other person (maybe son or boyfriend, didn't utter a word), which took a little over an hour. Upon a brief inspection of the car he gave us a ride to our vacation accommodation in Benamahoma.
Minus: He drove the wrong way twice on his way to Benamahoma, did not appear to pay much attention.
Minus: He did not offer us a replacement car.
Plus: He fetched us at 8:00 on a Sunday morning two days later to bring us to Ronda (more than an hour by car), where we had to catch a train.
Minus: He only came conditionally upon agreeing that we would still pay the full fare for the car.
Overal verdict: 2/5. He gave us an unreliable car but handled it what was perhaps as best as he could, as I believe he did not have other cars available. I'm not sure because our communication was only in Spanish.
