This company operates as a scam operation relative to insurance. Look at reddit/ trustpilot etc. They pretend cdw credit card processing does not work and will not give you a car until you accept their insurance and process a payment. Then the subject card immediately works. I recently tried five banks and 8 total cards. Nothing worked as a deposit until ,under duress I processed the insurance payment. Their customer service is also in on this scam. Anyone is an idiot to use this company if you read/ heard this review or others that are available. read more

We rented a vehicle from Centauro at the Athens airport location (ATH) via EconomyBookings.com. We have no complaints about the vehicle. 1. We were charged a €152 deposit for fuel and told that the tank was full. The tank was only 1/4 full (we did not notice this until the next morning). We returned the vehicle with the tank 1/2 full but only €76 was returned, a loss to us of €76. 2. We were charged €324 for Smart Cover. I later found out from Centauro that we should have been given the option to either put a hold on a certain amount in case of damage, or to purchase Smart Cover. The agent at Athens did not present the first option. We would not have purchased Smart Cover if we had known we could put a hold on a safety deposit instead. So all told, we paid €400 more than we should have paid. We will not be using this service or company again. read more

I rented a basic car and got a nice upgrade, in the beginning I got felt lucky but after at the drop of I realized I have been deceived. They gave me a nice car but with lots of scratches and small marks, I made a video of the car just to be safe but at the time of the drop of the attendant " found" one scratch and blame me for it, she did not want to give a proper look to my video and charged me. On returning my rental car in Thessaloniki, I was illegally locked inside their office by three staff members (2 women and 1 man), who demanded I delete a voice recording that exposed their fraudulent attempt to charge for pre-existing damage. They physically blocked the door, and I had to call the police (112) to be freed. This was an incredibly distressing and intimidating situation--completely unacceptable and illegal. They then refused to drive me to the airport, even though a transfer was clearly included in the contract. Had I not planned extra time, I would have missed my flight. In addition to this abusive behaviour: * They tried to fraudulently charge me for "damage" that was clearly visible at pickup (and photographed). * Their own rental contract states minor damage (smaller than a circle) is not chargeable, yet their staff openly admitted to ignoring this and charging everything "on their manager's orders." * They also withheld €105.40 for fuel, despite me returning the car with more petrol than I received it with (evidenced by photographs). All of this has been recorded and documented--including the voice recording (which I did not delete as they demanded) and photo evidence. I'm taking this complaint to Centauro's head office in Alicante, Spain, as well as the Greek authorities, and consumer protection agencies. Be careful! They are a SCAM! Nearly a month after I returned the car, I am still waiting for my full refund. My car was scheduled to be picked up at 11:30 AM, but we only received the keys 45 minutes later, at 12:15 PM. We had to wait a very long time. We returned the car before 12:00 PM (remember, we received the car at 12:15 PM) on the agreed day and with a full tank of fuel. I dropped the keys at the counter, where the lady was happy to receive them and advised that she would send the paperwork later. Little did I know, she entered the return time when she processed the paperwork, not when I physically handed her the keys! She entered 12:22 PM. I thought I was dealing with a reputable and honest company. To my disappointment, when I received the paperwork, they charged me for an additional day of car hire and insurance, even though the car was returned before the time the keys were provided! Their response was that I should have returned the car at 11:30 AM, even though I did not receive the car at that time. What a SCAM!!! I have contacted them but am still waiting for a response. Unfortunately no car or representative from the car company, Centauro, booked through economy bookings ever showed. Economy Bookings took my money and told me it was because I was late/ plane was delayed. It was delayed by 15minutes. Centauro told me they were at the airport waiting for an hour. There was simply nobody there. I had to firstly search the area and ask around for Centauro, and after being there for the hour they said they were there for, pay €95 to get a taxi. When I rang both companies the next day, Centauro hung up on me twice while shouting down the phone and lying to me. Economy Bookings couldn't have cared less. They both played me off on one another making it out like it was the others fault or making it out like it was my fault. It was depressing, stressful and anxiety inducing. Upon collecting the rental vehicle in Santorini, I was informed - more than once - that debit cards are not accepted by Centauro (contrary to what is explicitly stated within my rental confirmation email). As a result, I was forced to pay an additional 125 Euros for insurance that I did not require (due to having bought insurance elsewhere). I have since been in discussions with Centauro who are now claiming that debit cards are accepted and that I did not try to use one. I wish I could write a review with negative stars. If you are thinking to rent, please think again. They spoilt my whole trip. I travelled to Spain, Seville, the instructions to collect the car are totally wrong. I can provide photos. The 'Meeting Point' doesn't exist where they said, it is in different location. Bus never came for almost 2 hours. I was for almost 2 hours awaiting for the 'yellow' bus, after we had been 9 hours travelling, until I finally decided to cancel the booking after 3 calls. They kept telling me to wait, and wait and wait and they had no idea where such Meeting point was. At some point the guy at the other end of the phone hang on me and blocked my calls. So I had to take a taxi to Sevilla train Station, get a hotel and stay overnight as the time was too late to drive to my final location. Totally spoilt my honeymoon. Avoid this company! Read this carefully! This is a mafia-like organization. And I mean it. They steal money from their customers who they should respect and care about. This is the complete opposite of how a modern company should look like. I rented a car via rentalcars.com. While booking a car I chose a full insurance option. While picking up the car at the Centauro I was asked if I want to buy insurance which is a very necessary thing. I told them that I already bought one via rentalcars.com and I did not want to spend money two times on the same thing. This is when it all started. The man was trying to softly force me to buy the insurance but I kindly refused. Before receiving a car, I had to sign a document that was stating that there are some damages and that I recognized them. I was told to sign it. I signed it and told them that I will take a look at the car (even though I was assured that there is no such a need). I received a pretty damaged car which I took pictures of. Just FYI the document that I signed stated that there are "minor damage" on the rear bumper....well there were tens of damages. Also was told that it is fully fuelled (it was 75%). I went with this information back to the man who was handling my rental and he wrote on a paper that in fact it was 75% and went back to the office assuring me that he will correct it in their system (you guessed it...he did not). Now let's go to the "real stealing" part. As I wrote at the beginning I took a lot of pictures of the car and I knew that I was returning the car in the same shape as it was when I was picking it up. The man handling my return (in fact it was the same gentleman) approached me and said that "unfortunately, there were found two additional damages". I was shocked but calm because I had the pictures of the car from the day when I was picking it up. The first damage he showed me was damage on the rear bumper. He even showed me a picture that was allegedly taken on a day when I was picking up the car (what a scam!). The man was lying in my face. As an entrepreneur, I really disagree with such behavior. So I showed him the pictures of the car that were taken by me and the damage was already there. He still didn't want to agree with me because he said that I signed a document but the document stated that there was minor damage on the rear bumper. But then, he showed me the second damage (something that I really wasn't prepared for at all - bravo Centauro! You tricked me!). He put a key into the door lock and he said that he cannot turn the key to open the door (what a scam! Based on the first attempt of cheating, I am sure that it was already like this when I was picking up the car). Of course, I had the pictures of the door lock however I wasn't checking the door lock myself because I was opening the car remotely with a pilot. So I had to pay for the damaged door lock Thank you, Centauro for this unforgettable experience and the opportunity to see how you operate. How can you treat a decent customer like this? First they will refuse to give you your car, unless you hand over a deposit of £1100 and agree to a £400 excess for any damage deemed done while you have it. The barefaced, quickly pushy nature of your customer contact, and the uneasy gang mentality apparent in Centauro's office, will set off your nervous system. You will fast feel a daunting sense of what's happening. You will then be offered an alternative - to shell out for the company's exorbitant insurance cover which will likely quadruple your bill. If you don't, you give Centauro £1100 and take your chances. Read other reviews on this page to see what happens when you do. You will accept the ridiculous insurance costs reluctantly. As you hand over your bank card you will be told you have to leave a £109 fuel deposit too, in case you return the car without a full tank. It makes no difference. Worst customer service experienced at Centauro Madrid. Do not rent a car from them even if they are cheaper than other rental car companies. Not only did we have to wait over 1 hour for the shuttle bus at the airport, when it arrived it was full of other people who had also been waiting for the shuttle bus. When we got to the office to pick up the car, the two customer service representatives during that shift did not serve us unless we had a ticket number (which many of us were not able to get) despite being first in the queue, and made us wait 3 hours after complaining and ultimately refusing to rent us a car. I wish I could give -1 star. Worst experience. Total Rip off company for following reasons: 1. Hidden fees - the total cost during online checkout is different than the actual one due to many hidden fees. Eventually, its same/more expensive than other regular rental cars (Avis, Hertz). 2. Manipulative - I booked an SUV but they manipulated me to agree for a small sedan car with my family/kids. When I argued, then they were like oh! this is the only car available to us currently (I did get an SUV later after much fight). 3. They add many additional small charges for small things. Be ready to pay extra for vacuum cleaning, exorbitant amount for gas etc. 4. The rental car unit is 12 mins away from all airports and shuttle only comes every 30 mins. So long wait time. 5. Avoid Centauro I wish I'd read more independent reviews before I booked with Centauro (via Expedia). Note: Read reviews from places like TripAdvsiror, TrustPilot, Yelp, Google etc which all shed insight in to Centauro's business practices In short, I would never use Centauro again and encourage anyone to avoid them. Based on many of the other customer experiences, it would appear Centauro has a common business practice of charging customers for scratches and then price-gouging them via their deposit after the fact. We had scratches on our rental car's hubcap which were present when we picked up the car but which the Centauro employee apparently did not properly record/log in to their system during initial pick-up/walk-through. We had no idea the Centauro employee did not properly record them. During drop-off, when we were told we caused the damage and tried to explain the issue, Centauro denied it and closed out our rental contract without our consent/signature/authorization. They also refused to give us a copy of our final contact -- despite our watching other customers be asked to sign the final close out report and be given a printed copy of their contract. During this process, we asked the Centauro manager to call and speak to the employee who gave us the car and who could confirm the scratches. Centauro said it was too early and he could not be reached. Centauro also told us they would have to keep our $1,000 deposit and charge us "whatever they needed" to replace the hubcap, saying that it could be very very expensive. They charged us nearly $500 for a hubcap! To add insult to injury, after our objecting to their entire process -- and knowing we had limited time to argue b/c we had an international flight to catch -- Centauro refused to let my wife and I board their shuttle bus to the airport.... so we had to roll our bags up their drive way and hire, wait for and pay an extra ride share. Note: another family who had also been denied by Centauro was at the top of the drive way also waitng for an uber. If you're still thinking of use Centauro, be aware that the wrong street address is listed on Expedia for their Lisbon Airport location. This was another inconvenience , extra cost and delay to us when we initially ubered to Centauro's Airport location and found ourselves 15 miles away. Not sure if this is Centauro's or Expedia's fault, but when we mentioned it to Centauro, they didn't care. Very poor experience all around. But I got the flat tire within 10 km from car rental to my hotel and waste all my time to get back to airport rental car place (cancel my tour because of it) to get replacement car (still broken as the rear camera is not working). But the centauro malaga car rental forced to take that car away. When I return the car in Seville Spain (paid additional 120 Euro), I was told that I need to pay additional 20 euro gas penalty during original car exchange b/c of flat tire. The car rental doesn't take my explanation - how can I fill the gas when I got flat tire. I rented a small car from Centauro at Malaga Airport. It had seven minor dents and scratches and no rear wiper, but I've had worse rentals, so accepted it. I have my own insurance policy so didn't need to take their cover. On returning the vehicle, I was accused by the returning inspector of scraping the front plastic rim which I'm pretty sure I didn't cause. However, as I didn't have that particular wheel in the set of photographs I had taken on collection of the car, I was deemed guilty and charged with a 180 euro fine. Its laughable, the scratch was so small. I was told it was my responsibility to have taken a photo, but Centauro equally couldn't prove that it wasn't scratched when I took the car out. I feel swindled/cheated, but I can't prove it. I suspect Centauro will dab a little silver paint on that hubcap without even taking it off the wheel and send the car out on the road again. I've learnt my lesson. I will not use Centauro again. There are so many other better car rentals at Malaga Airport. read more

Our advice is to check the locks and ensure that the doors open with the key because chances are they'll charge you € 300 for a forced lock. This happened to us and we suspect that it is part of Centauro's business model as it is unlikely they fix the lock. I paid euro 25 for 10L and was told Centauro would refund me. Upon returning the car the desk clerk said only if I have an IBAN number will they refund me. Being from the US, we have no IBAN numbers. Our agent upon checking our vehicle back in went right to the front bumper as if they have done this before. Bent over and said "these are fresh, they still rub off". To which I replied, if it was really scratched it doesn't rub off. They charged us 250.00 per scratch with no conversation. It was the most upset I have felt in a long time, since we truly did not damage the vehicle. I asked for a managers name and number, and it was refused. They would give me no additional contact to speak to about what just happened. I will never rent from them again, and we have been back to Spain many times since. I was also robbed by th same male supervisor for take damage on the lower front bumper, which I rubbed off with my handkerchief, and he said the aerial was missing, I showed him a photo of the car that was taken when I collected the car, he did not want to know, he started shouting and being aggressive to me. I hired car through an agent Jan 2022. Paid for full insurance and waiver with agent. When I arrived to collect the car Cantauro insisted the cover was not with them directly and I had to pay Centauro Insurance (€200 for the 8 days stay OR leave deposit of €1150. I left deposit. There were many other extras added for fuel etc etc. I returned the car and my deposit was refunded because there was no problem. a week later they charged €250 to my card for a "puncture" to one of the tyres (normal wear and tear in my view). After countless emails they returned €200 stating that their charge for a puncture is €50. Stay away from these people at all costs. Worst customer service I have encountered EVER. read more

Secretly billed 120 Euros for their faulty vehicle :( I rented a car in Ibiza. Drove it 12 miles, and two days later, it wouldn't start. I phoned them, and asked them to replace the car. Instead, they sent a man in a van who jumped the car. I accepted this as a replacement was not on offer, and the car worked. When I returned home, I checked my credit card statement. I was charged 120 Euros for road rescue! No bill, notice, or invoice, and they didn't tell me when I returned the car. I protested to my credit card company, and also to Carrentals.co.uk, whom I'd got the rental from. They wrote to Centauro, and Centauro said I'd left the lights on. Malaga Date: 19 November 2019 Scratch scam, beware, At the return a detailed scrutiny by 2 staff finally points to a right side rear bumper scratch although a left side bumper scratch listed on the contract. This mystery scratch is an old scratch, but after my protest, e225 charged. I emailed a complaint but only got a very predictable standard reply, suggesting I claim from my own insurance, they are aware a lot of folk carry separate excess insurance. I have rented frequently over the last 15 years at Malaga airport and this my first rental with Centauro and my first bad rental experience with any car rental company. I rented a car online from Centaurorentacar in Malaga Spain for May 23, 2014. The pick up at the airport was disorganised and it took me 30 minutes to get to their rental centre which is quite aways away from the airport. Only 2 customer service agents checking people in. The woman who helped me was not very nice. I had a copy of my emailed confirmation with me. Everything was fine until I was told I was being charged 99 Euros for fuel. WHAT??? There was nothing in anything that was sent me or on the website about this. I was under the impression that if I returned the car full I would not be charged. So why the 99 Euros upfront? They have lots of undisclosed fees making your great price rental, not so great. She insisted that I was sent a copy of the general conditions. I was not. The only place they are is in a separate pdf file on the website. Not even in a place easy to find. I asked for a printed copy of them, she refused. The contract conditions on the back of the receipt are in such fine print that you can't even read them. So what else didn't they tell me? I asked for it in writing that I would be refunded the 99 Euros if I returned it full and she refused. Finally she mad a notation on my receipt of something, but it wasn't clear at all. I then noted on their copy about the refund. We'll see what they do. What a bunch of crooks! It is not very convenient to use an agency so far from the airport and with such slow bus service. Allow LOTS of time if you book with them, and be prepared for extra charges and rude customer service people. The car was clean, ran well and was comfortable, but not the great deal I thought it would be. I couldn't figure out some things and there was no manual in the glovebox. No one was willing to expelling any of the car features which should be done when you are renting to foreigners. Cars are very different in Spain than in the US. A rip-off with an appearance of a bargain. Stay away if you want to visit Spain during your visit to Portugal. Centauro rent a car is a Holiday Autos partner in Spain. Their prices were very competitive so I booked a Focus type car for one week from Malaga Airport. Their office is a couple of miles from the airport and is serviced by a regular shuttle bus. In view of the price paid I expected a fairly ordinary vehicle. On arrival I was upgraded to a virtually new Peugeot 308 HDI Station wagon, which was powerful but economical, roomy and well equipped. The Centauro staff were helpful and multi-lingual. Unfortunately, I misunderstood their conditions which were to pay in advance for a full tank of diesel and return it empty. I returned it with a full tank. An email to their customer services produced a refund to my credit card for the fuel costs in 2 days. So I would certainly not hesitate to use Centauro again. And next time I will try to listen more carefully! read more

Rip-off of 500 euro for a scratch which was practicly invisible. You can see it only from a very specific angle, from 30cm and with direct sunlight. Very bad surprise when returning the car. We did not notice it during the whole 7 days we used it... read more
