I'd originally planned to go with another company, but my trial with them was absolutely terrible and I needed to find someone else, fast. I'd been recommended to call Special Event Beauty, and they got me in the very next afternoon on a Sunday for my trial. I know the ladies had to rush around to make it work, and I can't them them enough for that! Maryanne and Rachel came to The Groton Inn to do the hair and makeup of myself (the bride), my bridesmaids, my mother and soon to be mother-in-law. They showed up promptly, and even worked quickly with the inn to get a few taller chairs in our room to make their jobs easier. Everyone had a wonderful time with both of them, chatting and sharing a lot of laughs. It was the first time a few of them had ever had their hair and makeup done by someone else, and they put them at ease. Everyone loved the end results (including myself, after a bunch of little changes the day of - which they were both so wonderful about and didn't make me feel badly for being so indecisive in the moment) and I loved working with them both - I hope that I get to do it again sometime in the future - you know, for someone else's wedding ;)

I was really happy with the conversations I had back-and-forth with Jacki who manages the accounts. She always responded right away with all the information I requested. Their prices are reasonable and their team is excellent. I was able to schedule a hair and make up trial in Braintree about a month and a half prior to my wedding. I was so happy with my results. My make up and hair artist was Noelle. She is absolutely incredible. Jacki gave me Noelle because she said she specializes in braids and I knew I wanted my bridesmaids and I to have braids in our hair on the day. Very bohemian look. I specifically asked whether the style could be achieved with my hair, and I was assured that it could. Based on that reassurance, I trusted her expertise and proceeded with the appointment. Unfortunately, the finished result was extremely disappointing. The braids were very sparse, with certain areas of my scalp appearing almost bald. The overall style lacked the fullness and appearance I had specifically discussed with the stylist beforehand. For $280, I expected a much better outcome, especially after being assured that the style was achievable. When I brought my concerns to the salon owner, I was offered a redo instead of a refund. While I appreciate the offer, I explained that I was not comfortable subjecting my natural hair to additional tension, manipulation, and potential damage by taking down and redoing an entire braided style. Despite explaining my concerns, the owner refused to issue a refund, stating that the stylist had checked with me about the braid size throughout the appointment and that she needed to be fair to her stylist. What I find particularly frustrating is that fairness should extend to the paying customer as well. I paid $280 for a service that did not meet the expectations established during my consultation. Confirming the braid size throughout the appointment does not mean I agreed to or was satisfied with the overall finished result. I absolutely understand that stylists deserve to be compensated for their time and effort. However, customers also deserve quality work, honesty about what can realistically be achieved, and accountability when a service falls short of what was discussed. I made every effort to address this privately and respectfully before leaving a public review. Unfortunately, the salon owner was unwilling to reconsider her decision regarding a refund. Spending $280 on a hairstyle that I am unhappy with is disappointing enough, but the lack of a satisfactory resolution makes the experience even worse. I am sharing my experience so that other potential customers can make an informed decision. I strongly encourage anyone considering this salon to be cautious, ask questions, and understand the salon's refund policy before committing to an expensive service. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and I would not return.
