I really wanted to find some place local so, after doing a little Yelp research and after reading such great reviews about this place, I decided they were worth giving a shot. I decided to go to Karen after seeing her name mentioned mostly in the reviews which turns out is the owner. The place is small and hidden off of Main st in Oakley. Secluded and hidden with dark tinted windows, you really would not expect much though, to my surprise I walked in to an extremely chic, well decorated, modern style salon and was immediately greeted by Karen. Sure won't be my last! Love that they are local! I explained to Melissa what I was trying to accomplish with the highlights. We decided to go with the blue highlights since the salon was out of purple color. Great! I love not having too many choices! My hair turned out soooo cool! Its like bold blue near roots and kinda darker blueish purple near ends. I'm growing out my hair from a VERY short A-line cut so I really didn't want Melissa to cut much off. She did what she could to freshen me up. I am very pleased with the results for color, cut, service, and how I was treated. I was also informed as how to take care of my hair now that I had color in it. Both Melissa and Karen were very personable and helpful and very much professional. Prices are reasonable and comparable. Salon was neat and clean. No nasty hair balls laying tucked behind a chair or desk. Plenty of hair products to choose from. Nice selection of magazines to look through while waiting for your color to set. I will be back to DK Salon in the future.

I came in to get my hair done and I left with hair I did not want, as well as damaged hair. I made the mistake of paying her but I thought since she was always kind to me, I could go to her about the issue later. I was wrong. She said the only solution is she can put toner but after I found damages in my hair, I just wanted a refund. (Where she bleached to make highlights, the strands are ripped from damages). She then accuses me of cutting my own hair just for a refund because they use the "best" products so it's not possible for my hair to be damaged. I sent her proof, pictures from a video I took while I was still in the parking lot with the day and time. (You can also see the dumpster behind me, that is by the salon). Not to mention you can see the bottom was cut professionally because it's even and not choppy, just shorter. The high light pieces are also ripped and not cut.. After I sent her the proof she never responded. I went to talk to the owner and she was professional but can't do much since they make their own money. I'm glad the owner also saw my hair and agreed it wasn't cut. I even called Ines while I was with the owner and it went straight to voicemail. I still haven't heard from her since I sent her the proof. Ines is not professional, she will blame you for her mistakes instead of taking accountability. I'm not just disappointed on how she did my hair but I'm disappointed at her.

We were a little nervous going in, but from the moment we arrived, Naz made both of us feel so comfortable. She greeted us with such warmth and took the time to chat with my daughter first, making sure she understood exactly what she wanted before starting. She seriously worked magic on my incredibly damaged, lengthy, thick, and heavy hair with ease and damn near healed my hair salon trauma forreal. I'd highly recommend this salon and Tina to anyone but especially to those with hair like mine (thick, coarse, dense/heavy, Filipino... lol). You also cannot beat their prices for the quality of the cut they give you!! (Rly long review ahead): I've dreaded hair salons since I was a kid and have largely continued to avoid them as an adult because 1.) stylists would often gripe about my very thick, coarse Asian hair, and/or 2.) often lack the skill and patience to cut my hair well. A lot of times they'd make it pretty clear to me I was inconveniencing and annoying them, almost as if cutting my hair was a burden. While I remember the ladies at Winnie's Cuts were very nice, basically every time my haircut was rushed and I'd leave feeling pretty apathetic about and bored with my hair. Once I got older and moved to a city where it was even more expensive to cut hair like mine, I started cutting it myself as I lacked faith/hope in salons and LA prices were too high for me to regularly justify. Last year a bad depression episode resulted in my hair becoming the most damaged it'd ever been. I continued to avoid the salon until it was beyond unmanageable and unsalvageable for myself to fix, until I finally decided to just bite the bullet and take a chance on someone a few months after moving back to the Bay. I was very nervous going into the salon, but Tina made me feel welcomed instantly and was so warm, personable, and kind. She was in the middle of cutting a male client's hair when I got there, but put me in a chair almost immediately. I noticed that she didn't rush the guy's haircut after I walked in and was very thorough with finishing up his hair, and I really respect and admire that! After she finished, I described to her the cut I wanted and showed some pics for reference, and she quickly started working her magic. She was very respectful about how thick and long my hair was, and that alone meant a lot. She's so nimble and cut my hair so beautifully with such ease and grace that it honestly left me in awe, lol. She did a phenomenal job at cutting my hair and got rid of so much damage while keeping a good amount of my length. I walked out of there so happy and with the best cut and experience I've ever had. Using the Vagaro app, I booked an appointment with Vanessa, who seemed to have a lot of good reviews! When I arrived for my appointment, she was wrapping up with another client, which is absolutely expected when you go to any sort of salon appointments, so there was no frustration on my end. She wrapped up shortly and brought me to her chair and was super warm and friendly -- she even offered sparkling sodas and drinks, which was a nice treat before sitting in her chair. As for consultation, since it was my first time meeting her, I showed her a few pictures of inspiration, but also invited her for her advice and expertise on what would suit my face shape and my natural hair and she was able to give great recommendations and while also acknowledging the inspo pics that I shared with her which I really appreciated. During the appointments, we definitely got to know each other on a personal level while also getting some great hair advice on how to care & style my hair as I had a lot of questions around that -- so I definitely feel so much more educated and confident around how to take care of my mane moving forward.
