Had the ribs and pulled pork, both were excellent. This roadside BBQ does not look like much but the food was excellent.

I have walked several times here with the dogs and usually I am left alone. I usually stay away from others so that the dogs do not get into anything they should not be doing. The park has great walk ways and a bridge walkway to the new journal center that goes under the road bridge. The city library is also located here. There are farmers markets at times as well.

I love City Island Park, what a beautiful place to sit. Good views of the International Speedway…read moreBridge and the Halifax River. It is usually cooler here in the summer because of the wonderful breeze coming off the water. They did move the playground to another area of the park though. The biggest complaint I have is that the City of Daytona Beach has decided to cable off the lovely gazebo down there and no one can use it now. It has to be rented for $150 a day, which is insane because they have removed the picnic tables and grills. No one rents it now. They have also gated the gorgeous fishing pier and gazebo down here, not allowing the public to use it anymore. This is very wrong!! People need to speak up about this. Their excuse is that they are trying to get the homeless to leave the park, but that is ridiculous. Everything they have done down there makes the park less and less usable by the public. That is their plan ultimately, to try to sell off the land to developers. It was announced by Ed Kelley Chair of Volusia County Council. We have to stop them, this park belongs to the people of Volusia County, all of us!! Personally, I ike to go down to this park almost every week and I bring some food for the homeless and sit and talk with them. I have become good friends with some of them. We sit and talk for an hour or two at each visit. I have gotten to know several of them and consider them my friends. They are not scary at all. Those who fear the homeless need to open their minds a bit. They are human beings and have the right to use the park during the daytime hours just like you and I. Robert likes to sit and read books there in the park, unfortunately the library has been closed since Hurricane Irma. I hope they reopen it soon. By the way, when tourists get lost and show up at City Island thinking it is the beach, Robert and the other homeless there in the park are able to give them directions and help them.
