    Lunch Bento Box 2
served with rice, assorted tempura, 6pcs California roll, deep fried tofu, choice of chicken, salmon or beef
    Chris C.

Makimono has been around in Pickering for several years, relatively close to home, but this is my first time going there. I don't know why it's taken me this long. They offer a variety of Japanese food, including sushi, teriyaki, and even some popular Chinese dishes. They feature an all-you-can-eat menu which includes sushi, in addition to daily lunch specials. I came in for lunch and opted for their Lunch Bento Box 2, which included my choice of teriyaki beef, assorted vegetable and shrimp tempura, California roll, deep fried tofu, miso soup, salad, and rice. For $14.95, this was a great deal, with very generous portions, and very good flavours! I actually ended up taking some of it home. In the past, they've had dining tables set up on a makeshift patio in the parking lot but a major construction project next door makes it quite dusty out there and unsuitable for dining. Their dining room, however, is quite cozy, with adequate seating. I'll definitely be back!

This is definitely one of our favorite sushi AYCE to go to. Although as of last week , soft drinks are no longer included and yiu have to pay extra which is a bummer. Still, love this place.

We've been coming to this all-you-can-eat sushi bar for many occasions, and it's always a great experience. They offer a wide variety of sushi, fried items, fresh food, desserts, and more. We recently went for my brother's birthday, and since there were five of us, he got to eat for free, which was an awesome bonus. The staff were amazing as usual very friendly, helpful, and attentive. We'll definitely be coming back again!

Tried out this chain of AYCE sushi restaurants on a weeknight around the holidays. It was $34.99 per adult on a weekday which is a bit steep but I guess inflation is at work. We really enjoyed the selection & quality offered. The price includes pop. You order on an iPad. Food is brought out quickly by the waiters and there are also some robot servers which was a fun touch. Honestly their weekday selection is great and all the food requested was delivered. We usually find with other ayce spots, some stuff is missed. Definitely our go to spot when we want ayce sushi.

Makimono is a solid AYCE sushi restaurant in Pickering. The atmosphere is great, the service is prompt and it's not too busy on weekday afternoons. They offer the standard AYCE menu, but what sets them apart is their vegetarian options. They have a great Mango Roll, Yam, Tempura Roll and a couple of other great options. They get pretty busy on weekends.

The food to price ratio here is excellent and I really appreciate the service since they are accommodating to all group sizes. I had the katsu chicken bento box. I did steal some shrimp tempura from friends as well and that was amazing. The katsu was average but for 15$ during peak hours, u can't complain.

This place was DELICIOUS! The food was fresh, the menu was large and the service was good. Food 4/5 - The food was delicious, the meats were fresh and tasty. The sushi was average but still delicious. The tempura was delicious and the dipping sauce was one of the best I have ever had. Often the tempura sauce is too watery and lacking flavour but this one was very sweet and flavourful. Service 3/5 - The restaurant was busy and so some of our food took a while to come or never came at all. We had to reask for certain dishes because they never came. The sushi took the longest, which is surprising because it is usually the first thing to come out. Our dishes were not quickly taken off our tables like other sushi places I have been to, we would get new food and our server would pass by without picking up the dishes. But, when we wanted to order they were quick to send the order through and good at replenishing our water. Environment 4/5 - The place seemed large, modern and clean. It was busy with people, which is always a good sign.

Definitely one of my favourite AYCE sushi places! Pros: - Friendly staff who are attentive and fast - iPad ordering - Good portions - Food is amazing - Dining area is clean Cons: - After a certain time, you can't order (so don't go late) - Washrooms are DIRTY! - Pretty pricey Overall, I would come back, you can't go wrong with an AYCE sushi place, especially when it's near by, has good service and food!

Makimono is typically my goto for sushi, however as of late their sushi has not been what it used to be. I usually get a salmon hand roll however the salmon was not fresh and quite slimey. This time I ordered the short rib combo and was severely disappointed - the portion size of the amount of ribs and rice for $18.99 was not what I expected. For this cost a larger portion of more than 4 ribs would be fair, won't be ordering their dinner combos again, however will give their sushi a second chance.

Good quality food. Fast service. Most AYCE places give you really small portions of the teriyaki dishes or anything that is not sushi or sashimi. This place also had dim sum and it was decent. Definitely worth coming back

Golden California Roll was delicious with all those sauces!

The quality and seasoning of meat were great. The spicy shrimp was lovely. The miso salmon was nice and soft. The same clams were lacking a little flavour and there were no vermicelli. The fries, takoyaki, wings and cheesy corn were great. I was surprised to see takowasa. It was not bad but could use more of the crunchy veggies and more wasabi flavours. The bibimbap was meatless and could use more sauce but the rice and egg was perfect. They offered a good Melona variety. The creme brulee was ordered to torch and came in a legit ramekin but I wished the sugar crust was thicker. Great service and environment. I did find the seats a bit cramped especially when sharing the middle booth. We were reminded of the 1.5hr last call and 2hr seating limit a few times though. And also reminded that if we cannot finish the food that we should set it aside... Overall, happy to see a nice AYCE BBQ place make it further into Durham!

This time, it was their new Japanese Fried Chicken Karaage, available in several flavours: Classic, Teriyaki, Sweet Heat, Maple Jalapeño, and Hot Yuzu. Tip: This cafe has ube baked goods and Japanese meals…read more A few Saturdays ago, I was at Chuck's Roadhouse for lunch. Afterwards, I drove around the plaza to figure out what businesses were there. I was happy to see Fuwa Fuwa Dessert Cafe. I had flagged coming here. Well, it took a gathering of three friends with me to visit this cafe last Thursday. I had only visited the Fuwa Fuwa location in Vaughan. This one in Pickering is special for a bunch of reasons. There was lots of parking at 6 pm on a Thursday evening that was threatening freezing rain. Luckily, we only got rain. Yay! I backed into a tight parking spot. The tight part was due to a snowbank that was in front of the row of parking. I threw out some garbage from my car into a receptacle near this business. I saw one of my friends in the cafe already. Another one said hi to me when I grabbed the door. Our third friend came in a few minutes later. We are a punctual group. It was nice. I looked at the desserts display that I was sitting next to. First, it's deadly to be that close to baked goods. Second, there was a lot of ube. This cafe has Filipino and Japanese influences in its menu offerings. It's cool to me! I had meant to get something with ube in it. I need to go back! We were here for dinner. Normally, you think of fluffy, giggly pancakes when you're at Fuwa Fuwa. This restaurant had a Japanese eats menu. We got the following Japanese combos: - Combo A for two people: - Teriyaki pork katsu rice - Chicken karaage curry - Two miso soups - Two cans of pop - Combo B for two people: - Udon noodle soup - Teriyaki chicken karaage - Two iced matcha lattes We shared the mains and soups family-style, so we could sample everything. Our mains and miso soups came out first. The drinks came out last. The teriyaki pork katsu on rice was yummy. The katsu was crispy on the outside and perfect inside. The rice was fluffy and had some green onions and furikake (dried seaweed flakes). One friend wanted more furikake on it. The rest of us were fine with what we got. I've been into Japanese curry for the longest time. This place made it well. The chicken karaage was crispy, as the curry was separate on the plate and so flavourful. We got rice. It had this sesame shredded cabbage as a side. It was yummy, but we all suggested that it needed red cabbage to add a colourful pop to the dish. We gave the most feedback on the miso soup. It was salty. I ended up taking water that I had filled a cup up at the station in the back and diluted my soup. It was less salty. The problem was that my water was cold and it made my soup cooler. The owner on the store apologized. We did a taste test between a batch of miso soup from yesterday that he had brought to our table versus the saltier one today. I tasted both. Yesterday's didn't have a strong miso flavour. Today's was too salty. I ended mixing the two. The miso flavour was perfect, but it was on the salty side. We got two cans of Coke zero. I can do Coke zero. One of my friends can't. We ended up trading one of the cans for regular Coke, which he likes. My can was cold. It didn't cause a sugar spike. All good. I also had one of the iced matcha lattes. I was thirsty from my miso soup. I loved it. It was cold. The matcha flavour was excellent. It was creamy from the milk in it. Three of us had the udon noodle soup. One of our friends can't have beef. The beef was thinly sliced and yummy. We all loved the chewiness of the udon. The broth wasn't overly salty. I liked it. The jammy egg was perfect. The green onions enhanced this dish. We got teriyaki chicken karaage. I love that it had kewpie mayo drizzled on top. The chicken was moist inside and crunchy on the outside. This dish came with rice and a runny fried egg. Delicious! We ordered a couple of jiggly pancakes: - Berry - Matcha It was my first time having the berry. It was excellent. I loved the berry compote poured all over the pancakes, which absorbed everything like a sponge. The pancakes were fluffy, jiggly, and delicious. I've had the matcha pancakes before. I loved the matcha sauce and the strawberry slices. It was nice having them again. I used the washroom before we called in a night. There are two single stalls. The one that I used was decent. I loved visited this cafe. It was nice spending time with friends over dinner and jiggly pancakes. I will return for the ube goodies! (115)
