I know that the Community Center and the Leasing Office are two separate things, but I am pretty…read moresure they are both considered Hickam Communities. From personal experience, the leasing side was a pain in the butt to work with. The people at the community center have been great though! We were looking into switching into a single story home, due to medical reasons, a few months ago. The leasing office sent me paperwork that was meant to be filled out by my PCM and turned in. They didn't give me any information other then that. So when I was finally able to get an appointment with my PCM (lololol a whole other annoying issue), he looked at me like I was insane for even asking such a thing. He refused to fill the paperwork out because if he did, the powers that be would also revoke my driving privileges and wouldn't let me hold my child? Yeah, needless to say I got super emotional and gave up on our quest for a better fit home. Out of the blue the other day, I got an email from the leasing side about being on the waitlist and all this welcome to Hickam such information. I apologized for the confusion, seeing as we already live on Hickam, and asked to set up an appointment to possibly switch homes. She sent me to call the community center, and then the community center told me to just come in. Within 15 minutes I was in and out. I told the representative my story, and she got the paperwork set up right away. I know this is a long story, but I don't think the community center gets enough credit. I know there are different community centers for different neighborhoods (right?), but I just felt way less stupid finally going in to the source and getting things accomplished. And I think others are unaware of how to go about switching homes if need be. Is Hickam Communities as a whole still super confusing? Yup. I don't think they even know whats going on ha. Do I need a new PCM? Yyyeeeaaahhh, yeah I do. Is the community center perfect? Probably not. I am sure other people have stories of their own, and yeah the whole energy cap thing kind of sucks. But is that really their problem? Still confused. In my experience as a whole, the people from the community center were the kindest when moving in to our home and have been the kindest within the time that we have lived here so far. P.S. from what I understood, maintenance is run by the leasing side? So...yeah don't blame the community center for that mess. That is just dang poor management right there. I should not have to schedule an appointment for two weeks out just to not have them show up during my 4-8 hour window. Unacceptable guys.

I entered the East Foster Village Community Center one evening to attend a birthday party for my uncle. As I walked down the hallway I noticed there's an entrance to the community hall as well as the entrance to the swimming pool. The restrooms are towards the left side of the swimming pool. I walked towards the community hall and noticed the tables plus chairs were setup for the party. The kitchen is located towards the left side of one of the entrances. East Foster Village Community Center has party rates for the swimming pool, the community hall, or a combo rate for the hall and pool. After the birthday party the family members cleared out the community hall by putting away the tables and chairs into the storage area. One of the family members even mopped the floor after the tables and chairs were removed from the hall. The pool area shuts down at 6pm since there are no lights available for the pool area. I do know that the children and teenagers enjoyed both the kiddie pool and the adult pool. 75/100

Huge, beautiful building in Downtown Honolulu…read more Impressive, modern building with two towers, the Mauka and Makai Towers, located in Downtown Honolulu. The courtyard in the middle is decked with shady trees. Table seating are everywhere. Paid parking. Take your ticket with you and pay at the pay station prior to leaving the garage. You could probably have your parking validated if you have business appt in one of the towers. My destination was at the Mauka Tower, Suite 2200. Nice too that they are just a short walk away from the various stores, shops, restaurants, hotels, and other office buildings in Downtown Honolulu. From one of the conference rooms I had an amazing view of the Aloha Tower (an iconic symbol of Hawaii), the Honolulu Harbor and the cityscape of Honolulu on the other side. Wow, imagine sitting inside the conference room in a meeting... who could concentrate? Seeing that view of the Aloha Tower reminded me of the Hawaii Five-0 TV show... not the reboot but the original version with Jack Lord as Steve McGarrett... my Dad used to always watch the series when we lived in Oahu in the late 70's. I am playing that catchy theme song in my head now... darn it! Review #2626

I got the last stall on the 10th + floor - super tight space and walked down to the elevators but it was ridiculously narrow...they lose 2 stars from me!! RE-POST: Frank F. Fasi Municipal Building exists as PART of the Civic Center…read more The FRANK F. FASI MUNICIPAL BUILDING is a 16-story governmental office building. It was built sometime during the 1980's to early 1990's during the tenure of then Mayor Frank F. Fasi. It wasn't until 2006, when Mayor Hanneman renamed this building and the civic center after Mayor Fasi for the recognition of Mayor Fasi's service and commitment to the City of Honolulu. Mayor Fasi is credited for "building" much of the foundations on which Honolulu stands. In fact, as a young adult, I remember seeing bulldozers in downtown Honolulu's Capitol District where this building and several others were built. He held the distinction of being the longest serving Mayor of Honolulu (1969 - 1981). Last year, when we were in the process of selling our home, we had to get some documents from a couple of offices located this building. We parked in the municipal parking lot and followed the pathway to the building's entrance. It is a secure building as we signed in with the security guard and left our identification cards with him. We also had to pass through a metal detection booth which reminded me of those at airport TSA checkpoints. The offices that we know of that are within this building are: -Department of Planning and Permits -DPP Data Access & Imaging Branch (they STILL use microfiche readers) -Land Use Commission -Census Data. We're sure that there are other C&C offices here but we weren't allowed to take pictures or go to any other offices than what we signed in for. So, if you're planning to build an addition or renovation to your home, you or your contractor will need to come here to obtain a permit for the construction. This building houses offices related to Real Property. By the way, this building is PART of the civic center.

First Hawaiian Center was the most recent addition to the Downtown Honolulu skyline. The 30 story…read morestructure rises more than 429 feet to claim the title of "Hawaii's tallest structure." It's modern design speaks tones to the culture of Hawaii, while paying homage to its future. Boasting more than 645,000 sq. ft of office space, it features views of downtown Honolulu, the harbor, and the most amazing views of the city from its upper floors. It's design incorporates natural light into the structure versus the traditional office space of using artificial light. The ocean side of the building features louvered windows which are meant to frame the sea while the mountain side features vertical windows which are meant to proportion the height. It feature the main branch of the bank on the first floor as well as a satellite location of the Contemporary Art museum. The Bankers Club on the 30th floor is clearly one of the most exclusive points in town (that is for another yelp review). The Walter Dodds Jr. Plaza fronting the building pays homage to the Chairman of First Hawaiian when the building was constructed and he personally undertook many of the aspects of the design of the structure. The center may not seem to incorporate elements of the past at first glance, but go a little search and it will turn up a lot of intricacies set in the design which truly set the building apart from the rest. Honolulu's City Hall is named "Honolulu Hale"…read more.. Hale (pronounced: Hah-lay) is the Hawaiian word for building or house. Therefore, Honolulu House (or Honolulu Building) contains some of Honolulu's important departments... such as the Office of the Mayor. This time, I parked under the building, using an entrance on Punchbowl Street. It was metered parking - pay at the machine. My fellow members of the Rising Phoenix Jaycees and I were invited to the Honolulu City Council Chamber to receive a Proclamation for our 40 years of service to our Community! It was a great honor! There are multiple floors and they are mostly state department offices that are using them. There, supposedly, according to John N, is a parking lot somewhere around there for this, but I've never been able to find it. I generally just park near the State Capitol, and Walk. Parking in downtown stinks, but that's just the way it is. Everyone I've talked to who works at this location has been extremely friendly. The first time that I went up to this building, I was, in my normal fashion, looking confused and taking pictures. I was asked multiple times if I needed help or knew where I was going. That's pretty cool. I've been going here recently to visit the satellite elections office, which the state or city or someone graciously opens so that we don't have to drive out to the middle of nowhere. Staff have been friendly and super helpful, including making me extra copies of things when they didn't have to. On the second floor, the handicap stall is out of order in the women's bathroom, but other than that it's pretty nice. My favorite thing is the beautiful mural inside. Step through the doors and you'll see it. Enjoy!
