Crystal did a fantastic job on my wedding makeup! I don't normally wear makeup (I had not worn makeup once in the 3+ years that I had been with my fiance), so at first, I was a little concerned about looking like "someone else" on my wedding day. I did a makeup trial for our engagement photo session a few months before the wedding, and Crystal created a natural look that accentuated my best features. Crystal was able to replicate the same look for the wedding. I received many compliments on my makeup in the engagement photos and on my wedding day. Thank you, Crystal! In addition to being a top-notch makeup artist, Crystal was a pleasure to work with -- she was responsive to emails and flexible with scheduling (about a week before the wedding, I realized that it would be better if she could start at 9 am on our wedding day instead of the previously agreed upon 10:30 am, and she was able to accommodate the change). Also, Crystal's good taste in music may not seem particularly relevant in this situation, but the music she streamed during the trial and wedding makeup sessions helped create a cheerful and celebratory mood, which helped me relax. Unlike most of the reviewers, I had Crystal do my make-up for a special event. I was going to be dancing with my samba group in Carnaval SF and I needed someone to see my vision and doll me up because I am pretty much useless with make-up. The theme of our group was FIRE. I wanted a fierce look that was creative but also pretty as well. I was afraid that bold make-up would overwhelm my face since it's always a bit trickier to do Asian eye make-up but I trusted Crystal and I'm glad I did! She took a look at pictures I sent her for inspiration and was realistic and summed up what she thought I wanted with my look-and she was correct! On the morning of, I was nervous because this was going to be my first time having a make-up artist come over and do her thang but she instantly put me at ease. She was just a really sweet girl, very conversational without being being overly chatty and a great listener-it felt like I had a girlfriend doing my make-up. She was also very understanding-just literally a few hours before she was due to come for an early make-up call (7am), I woke up in panic because I realized that that wouldn't be enough time (numbers aren't my strong suite). I frantically texted her around 5am and asked her if she could come at 6:30am instead (yes I do feel bad!). Not only did she respond but she came and on time! She was a total trooper and a professional-had all her shit together. Literally-that girl has a lot of make-up!!! As far as the make-up, she did a great job! I got compliments on it throughout the day. Everything stayed on-through the sweat, sun and wind but she was thoughtful enough to send me off with touch-up for my lips and oil blotting sheets. She was very detail oriented-you could tell she was a perfectionist. I am a wedding photographer who worked with Crystal for at least 3or 4 different occasions. I absolutely love her work. Her looks are always flawless, effortless, and immaculate. Crystal is very professional and would always be on time. She uses high end cosmetics products, and always make everyone look naturally gorgeous, without looking like the makeup is wearing them, at all. When you work at enough weddings and touch up thousands of photos on a daily basis, you can definitely tell that Crystal's work is special. This review is long overdue. I had the chance to have my makeup done in a private session by Crystal and it was a wonderful experience. Being a lifelong minimalist tomboy, it's an understatement to say that I don't know what I'm doing with makeup. But it makes everyone pretty and looks fun to put on. Wish Crystal is my sister then she could do make up for me everyday~! I wanted to have somewhat in between normal make up and night out make up. She put just right amount of make up on it. Crystal was so professional, and personable, not to mention beyond great at her skills. We did a trial as well as the wedding day makeup for myself and my sisters. I felt like she was able to highlight and enhance parts of my flat face without making me unrecognizable. My husband loved my makeup for the wedding day, because it still looked like me without being overly dramatic; I usually only wear CC and eyeliner when I feel like dressing up my face =D. I did not go to Crystal for my wedding day- I actually went to her to do my make up for Halloween! I wasn't a monster of any sorts, I was Princess Snow White and I wanted to look like a princess on the day. Crystal made me look beautiful and I most certainly looked like a princess but beyond that I felt like one too. I have never felt more beautiful than after she was done with me. It was a short notice appointment and yet she took the unconventional job with the upmost professionalism. Even though it wasn't as huge a deal as doing make up for a bride I felt she did my make up with the same consideration for my satisfaction. I sent her a few pictures of what I had in mind and she stuck to my original idea- she would ask me before making any changes to the 'look' (such as lipstick color) and I felt very trusting that she had only my best interests in mind. I wish it hadn't been such a short notice appointment because she had suggested circle lenses to complete the animated-princess-look which would have been amazing. Unfortunately I did not get to sport huge anime eyes but the mere fact she had suggested it made me believe that she was excited for me to look like a princess as well. After the appointment I felt beautiful- I have a healthy self esteem and seeing myself looking so enhanced by her work made me feel more confident as Snow White. I've had a trial session (in April) and makeup for my engagement photos (in May) done with Crystal so far, and I've been super happy and pleased with her work. She comes from a corporate background (I believe she was doing finance/corporate accounting type of work before she did makeup full-time), and I believe that has been a great benefit which extrapolates out to the degree of professionalism that she carries out in her makeup work and business. She was very responsive to any concerns I had and replied quickly to my emails. I had contacted other hair and makeup artists and a lot of them got back to me pretty slowly (~ 3-5 days later). She partners with Patrick Evan Hair Salon in San Francisco (as a side note, if you go through Crystal, you do not need to go through them for hair). Patrick Evan has many hair stylists there and unfortunately, the one I had for my hair trial didn't work out well as my hair fell apart pretty quickly after the hair trial was done - although I was super happy with the trial makeup, I raised this with Crystal and she talked to the owner of the hair salon to get another hair trial with a different hair artist (this one went much better) without any extra charges. This underscored her commitment to client support and satisfaction - she really wanted me to be happy with the overall look I had. I really feel like she's my champion and advocate in making sure that I like and am comfortable with the look that she gives me. I was going more for a natural look since I normally don't wear any makeup on a normal basis. She warned me at the start of my trial that I'd feel like I had too much makeup on but that it still would look natural and good, esp for pictures. I do have to admit that when I first looked at myself in the mirror, I thought it was too much makeup but my fiancé loved the look and I shared the before/after pictures with friends and they loved it, too. I also liked the after pictures, too, and realized that in pictures it still doesn't look like I'm really wearing all that much makeup. This put my fears at ease and I was able to feel like I could really trust her judgment, so for the engagement photos I went with her suggestion of going a bit heavier with the eye makeup. Her reasoning was that the pictures often wash out the makeup and I wouldn't be talking to people and just doing photo shots. She was totally correct on this. Personality-wise she's very patient - I was having problems curling my lashes since I've never done that before, but she was patient in helping me out. She's also sincere and genuine - she's one of those types whom I feel like I'd want to be friends with. so I'm a bit picky when it comes to makeup... actually, to be honest, I don't really trust others to do my makeup well.. since it's hard to come across makeup artists who actually know how to do asian makeup well. but I would definitely recommend Crystal for anyone. First of all, she does an immaculate job. no smearing, no clumpy lashes.. She did an impeccable job for my wedding and all of my bridesmaids were very pleased with the outcome. She really knows how to accentuate asian features, without making us look like china dolls or japanese kabuki dolls. I've also seen her work on her fb page, and she does a good job on all the races, whether you be black, white, or asian. Not only that, she only uses high-end/good quality makeup. I've had other artists reuse brushes without cleaning them or using any ole CVS brand makeup on me, but Crystal's work was top-notch quality. and she was definitely prompt about cleaning and sanitizing her brushes (which is a big thing for me, since i'm kinda germaphobic) Finally, she is very friendly and professional. She arrived before the designated time and went right to work. Not only that, she provided me with a complimentary kit for tough-ups. My wedding pictures looked perfect, despite that I had cried 3 times throughout the entire ordeal (i also hate it when in pictures, my face looks pastier than the rest of my body.. which was not a problem with Crystal). I was highly satisfied with Crystal's work... definitely got more than my money's worth, and I would recommend her to anyone around me who is in need of a good makeup job. read more

I am so lucky to have found Crystal to do my wedding make-up!! With photos being the lasting reminder of such a special day I wanted to be sure I looked as good as possible...and Crystal exceed my expectations. She was so wonderful to work with, open to comments and really willing to work with me to create a look I was happy with.
