Rachel is cool, calm, and collected at the same time that she is warm, caring, and detail-oriented. I loved the look we put together at my trial, it was exactly what I wanted. I don't typically wear much makeup, and I wanted to look like myself just elevated for the special day. She asked me good questions, and really listened to my answers and used her expertise to guide us in a good direction to get the results that I wanted. It felt like we were a team. On the day of the wedding, she arrived on time and was extremely professional and focused. She kept on schedule and did not get flustered at all. I had a little freakout at one point about something about my look (nothing that she did), and she expertly handled it, helping me calm down and reminding me of the various things we had talked about at the trial - she said she would deviate from that if that was what I wanted, but talking with her made me feel confident again in what we had already agreed upon. Crisis averted. My look turned out amazing, even better than at the trial and exceeded my expectations! And critically it lasted the WHOLE DAY through some serious weather and activities. It was incredibly windy and we took all of our photos outside before the ceremony, plus the ceremony and cocktail hour were outdoors. It was also quite hot. By the time of the reception my hair and makeup still looked STELLAR! I was so impressed. Additional context: my hair doesn't normally hold a curl well, which made this even more impressive. After all the wind, 6+ hours of non-stop dancing (and sweating!), and a multi-hour after party at the beach, we got back to our hotel room and my hair was still gorgeously curled and my makeup still looked great! Also, she graciously thought of putting sunscreen on my arms and chest right before she sent me off to photos, something I hadn't thought of, which I was so grateful for because otherwise I certainly would have burned badly. She also did hair and makeup for my mom and grandma and makeup for my aunt, handling each of their unique needs expertly. They each looked so gorgeous and did not look like they were wearing too much makeup at all, something they were all concerned about. They looked very natural and elevated, which matched my look, too. Sometimes I think makeup ages people, but Rachel did a great job making sure their skin looked fresh and bright and the makeup didn't crease at all. They all received many compliments! However, I don't want anyone else to have an experience similar to mine. First off, I think her makeup skills are amazing and loved her makeup work. She took into consideration my photographer's editing style and how the makeup would show up in the photos. She's also a bubbly person that was very easy to talk to. Makeup Trial in 2020: Makeup turned out great in the photos. It took me a bit to get comfortable with how it looked in person, because I wasn't used to wearing much makeup, but she talked me through everything and wanted to make sure I was comfortable. The makeup still looked great at the end of the night though too - and this is after doing an ocean-side photoshoot. The cons: - She ran 5-10 minutes behind schedule and the trial ended up taking longer than expected due to struggles with my hair; so I had to rush to make it to my engagement shoot. However, I did appreciate how Crystal still took the time to listen and try to correct things. - My hair - I wanted a half up, half down w/ curls hairstyle. In a call beforehand, I had explained to her how my hair has a difficult time keeping curls and that I usually can only get a hold with a straightener. I can't remember if she used a curling wand or a curling iron, but the curls were already falling flat during the trial. By the time of the photo shoot, my hair was lightly wavy. By the end, it got pretty flat. She did offer a discounted retrial to try another technique to see if my hair would hold better. I didn't end up doing a retrial since I had to reschedule my wedding. (Rescheduled) Wedding Day in 2021: I had booked Crystal for makeup for my wedding for myself and my mom. The days beforehand, she mentioned how she was getting vaccinated. Skip forward to the morning of my wedding. I wake up a little over 2 hours before our appointment time, and I notice a text from Crystal that was sent less than 6 hours before our appointment. She says she's so sorry, she's been having chills and nausea and that she's unsure if she can cover and she's reached out to her immediate artists. I don't hear from her again until 1.5 hours before our appointment, she confirms that none of her artists have reached back out to her yet. I'm not sure, but it seems that she became symptomatic because of the vaccination. At that time, it was known that people get side effects from vaccinations, so I thought it was unprofessional to schedule a vaccination right before a booking. It also did not help that Crystal was unable to find a replacement. It was such a stressful morning... In the end, luckily my friend found someone else available to do my makeup and my mom went to a salon.
