I found Cherry on Yelp and messaged her just a few days ahead of the Tuesday night event. She responded with her quote and the relevant details, and after mulling over whether or not to spend the money, I secured the appointment with a deposit the night before. She only had a 1:00 slot available, but she was able to come to me, meeting me in my hotel room. She arrived right on time with an arsenal of beauty supplies. I liked her immediately. She was so friendly and energetic, and said flattering things about my skin, obviously music to my 39-year-old ears. I had a great time hanging out with her. She asked what I was looking for and I said I was walking a red carpet and just wanted to look good. She took me through her overall plan and started with my eye makeup, layering on colors and checking in to see if I was okay with the level of drama. I didn't know enough to weigh in and let her do her thing, and less than an hour later, I was fully dolled up. She even put fake eyelashes on top of my already fake eyelashes. To be honest, I was a little worried at first. I looked very dramatic for two in the afternoon, and I wondered if I'd let her go overboard. Once I was dressed and at the premiere, though, I felt fairly confident and comfortable and got lots of compliments. I walked the carpet, the second time I've done that in my life, and stood and posed awkwardly for a million photos. I've seen the pictures from both events and am really glad I got my makeup done this time around. The bolder makeup just worked better with those bright lights. I'm not professionally pretty (I'm a writer, which is, if anything, an ugly person's job) so it was fun to get my face painted and hang out with the attractive people who go to television premieres. Thanks to Cherry, I looked as good as my genes would allow. If you're looking for a professional makeup artist in New York City, I'd highly recommend Beauty by Cherry Le. She's a sweetheart, and she does excellent work.

Overall, it was a very efficient and pleasurable experience that started at the shampoo bowl with a relaxing hair shampoo service. I was then escorted to the styling chair and promptly received my haircut. Jeremy was very attentive listening to my wants and desires for my haircut and was able to deliver with expertise and style. I noticed there was more hair coming off than seemed normal and when she showed me my new length she had cut off more like 4 inches. The shape was also completely wrong. I was very clear about my goals but ended up with a haircut I really don't like and now have to wait months to a year for it to grow back out. Definitely depleted my confidence. Fine, this fee was additional for her time I get it, but I wrote back saying I wanted to speak to my husband regarding the price increase and then just generally asked if we could do 30/45 minutes earlier instead of an hour and a half as she suggested/ so it wasn't so early and she was quick to say we wouldn't be a good match. I never questioned her pricing or work, I was just inquiring about a later start time to sleep in a bit more when a full day of events is ahead. I was quite upset with how she handled the conversation and was so quick to turn away working together due to making an assumption that I didn't want to pay or that I wanted a discount? I never asked nor mentioned anything about a discount or lowering her price. It is a shame because I wanted to work together and had no issues with the pricing for the services provided- I just wanted to clear with my husband (especially since he's the one paying for and driving me to the event hence why timing is important). Wouldn't recommend her because of the way this scenario went. I am planning on using another hair/makeup artist that will not act this way. 2 stars because she is responsive via email. So I'll be fair and give credit when it comes to her communication.

She applied makeup in a heavy and sloppy manner (overdrawn lips, muddy cheeks, obvious eye brows, patchy foundation, wrong color foundation). 4. She applied a liquid highlighter and it streaked down my cheek, but she never corrected it (among other mess ups she did not correct). 5. She used heavy and cheap false eye lashes. 6. She was unresponsive during the trial when I told her I was not happy with how the makeup turned out. 7. The updo she gave me fell out approximately 1 hour later. I didn't even go outside with it. 8. She cashed both the trial and deposit checks (a total of $408) despite my expressed unhappiness with her work.
