Dalston

I'm still very confused when I see such new and exciting offerings in Dalston. Growing up here, my…read moreperception of the area was so fixed as grim and scary, that I seem to be stuck in that, despite being part and parcel of the gentrification myself! I was starvin like Marvin on the day in question when I tried this spot. After dithering around the new places for ages, I picked this one as it looked heathy and speedy (2 of my fail-safe concerns for food ordering these days ;) The new-ish staff were very kind when I got confused about what the mushroom option entailed and the care they took over creating my order was touching. I do hope that the enterprise succeeds as the salad in particular was super-fresh and of good quality :D

Arancini...like as a main course? YUP. And now I get it, but not until I came to Arancini Brothers…read more I've had risotto balls before, but never been so excited about them as I found them kinda greasy and plain. I came here with 3 friends for a quick bite before a gig up the road. Loads of tables to sit at but most people get them to go I'd imagine. There are loads of variations on the menu, and best of all, plenty of vegetarian/vegan. Prices are good, so it's a perfect lunch or cheap dinner place. I love that they do 'specials' too. I had the mixed box, with some classic and vegan risotto balls, topped with a lovely fresh salad. And I don't mean a couple of lettuce leaves, but an actual blend of crunchy fresh vegetables. So surprisingly delicious. My other friends got wraps and burgers and those were great too. We ordered another round of arancini for the table to share because they were so good. Not greasy or heavy at all. Great texture, lovely interior. So satisfying. Turns out there's an Arancini Brothers around the corner from me in Kentish Town...so looks like I'm going to be getting my arancini fix more often.

Brooksby's Walk is a lovely cosy bar/restaurant located just of Homerton Highstreet. The seasonal…read moremenu with daily delivered fresh ingredients is original, tasty, and reasonably priced. With two floors, a comfy ground floor and a heated and beautiful roof terrace, there is a suitable spot to enjoy a beer or dinner for everyone. The enthusiastic waiter is happy to explain the menu with real passion and smiles while topping up your glass with water or wine and occasionally asks if everything is alright. One of Homerton's hotspot to have a bite!

Himself and I decided to go out for dinner and thought we should branch out from our usual haunts…read moreso decided to head for Chatsworth Road. Being fairly new to the area we thought we'd just have a stroll down the road until we found somewhere we liked the look of and serving something we fancied. Brooksby's Walk stands out with its twinkling lights enticing you in and the fact its in a converted bathroom. You can still see the Men and Women's signs above the doors! On entry, it has a cocktail bar at the bottom and after finding a table for some food we were led up to the awesome roof terrace which lets you look out onto the street below and opposite. The staff were super friendly and helpful. We ordered a beer and glass of wine and then took a look at the menu. Unfortunately, due to its popularity, the Octopus was sold out so we opted for the fermented pork belly, baked cheese with apricot and lamb's heart served with girolles and Scottish beans. 3 dishes to share was just right for us and the staff were so helpful when it came to the gluten-free question. They even had gluten-free bread on offer and all the dishes were gluten-free with bread removed. The food is fresh and seasonal and we spent a bit of time talking to one of the staff about the menu and dishes which change dependent on season and what the suppliers have. I love this as it means you rarely get the same dish twice and you end up with something really special. Highly recommend Brooksby's Walk for delicious food, excellent staff and to top it off its really good value for food of such high quality.
