4th visit. I have tried to give this place a bunch of chances over a period of time to see if they will deliver good Thai food as tends to be 99% of the reviews of this place.....with some locals comparing Mais Thai to places in big cities?!? What?!? I'm clearly missing something here, unfortunately. For context I am a vegetarian. No meat, no seafood for me. Every Thai place can accommodate me and do an exceptional job with my dietary restrictions. I got the number 22 with tofu. I wanted wide noodles For dinner But did not want to drive across the river. Honestly, the sauce was not up to par, the tofu seemed to have been fried in old overused oil as it was extremely extremely bitter. I picked out the tofu pieces and threw them away. The chewiness of noodles I did enjoy but there was technically no taste to the whole dish. Please keep in mind there's a 4% charge for credit card payments. I think I will now rest my case and come to the conclusion that this spot is probably not for me and that is fine. Terrible customer service. Food subpar. Dining area looks junky/cluttered, filled with various items on one half of the dining room and it was dirty as were the restrooms.The experience was so bad (the way I was treated) it made the whole party uncomfortable. To be honest, If my mother had not been wheelchair bound and having to get in and out of places such a painful experience for her, we would have gone somewhere else to eat once we saw the condition of the dining area. ( especially once we found out they were not moving to a new building or in the middle of a remodel, this was "the way it always looks".) On to the dining experience, I ordered Pad Thai with chicken as this is one of my Thai fave dishes. I couldn't even pallet the taste to eat a whole bite.( I tried, in an attempt to handle the situation politely, but gagged and had to spit it out into my napkin) It should be noted that the other two guests with me said their meals were ok. They both could smell mine when it was brought to the table and even commented that they were glad they didn't order that dish. (It smelled like rotten meat). After they both mentioned the smell, I asked our server if I could order something else, "perhaps a favorite dish he recommended?" When asked, I explained that it was due to the fact that the "meat tasted rancid". The young man who was waiting on us went to check to see what he could do and his sister came over to discuss (I thought) but ended up confronting me and before I even finished talking, cut me off to tell me I was "wrong!". Further, when I said I love Thai food but had never had Pad Thai prepared that way, she began to grill me about if I had "ever been to Thailand and had real Thai"and tell me she "was sure" I "had no idea what I was talking about and that they weren't going to be making a new dish for me because her Grandma makes great Thai food and I ordered that dish!" To which I responded, " I guess I am not used to the flavor of your Pad Thai version." Then The owner (Grandmother) came out and was already notably upset with me asking. She angrily said, "You eat what you order. If you go to a fancy steakhouse and order you don't get to tell them you don't like and order new dish, so I will not cook you new dish just because you don't like!!" I put my hands up in surrender and said, "I apologize, it appears that I have offended you by the way you are speaking to me. It was not my intent to offend anyone. Again, I apologize." She said You don't apologize. I don't accept!! Eat or don't eat, but no refund!" "Just like fancy restaurant!" I hadn't asked for a refund, simply asked if there was another dish they recommended perhaps ? There were 3 of us and the dinner was pricy considering we drank from styrofoam cups and ate on paper plates using plastic cutlery in a dirty and cluttered dining area. (on a bright note, the boy cleaned the table before we sat down). Each of us paid for our own meal and each bill was over $20.00, (mine was $38 due to ordering an appetizer). Sadly, it looks like I will have to continue my search for a great Thai dining experience in Jeffersonville, because I will N O T be returning to this place. In fact none of the people in my party will, ( due to the way I was treated) NEVER in my 54 years of life, have I been treated that way. I've been wanting to try Mai's Thai pretty much ever since moving to Southern Indiana four years ago and finally decided to go for it today. I had heard rave reviews from people in various social media groups so maybe my expectations were a little higher due to that. I ordered the Pad Prik (beef) and a side salad. The total was $22.25. For one meal. These are prices I would expect to pay when ordering through a food delivery service, not for pick up from a small business. Taste and flavor were good, but nothing spectacular and not spicy at all, even though the description stated it was in a spicy sauce. The salad dressing container was barely half full. It's been many years since I've eaten at Mai Thai in Jeffersonville, IN. I've been on the hunt for the best Thai fried rice and thought I'd try it for lunch today. I was able to find their menu online and called to place a pickup order. I ordered the Thai fried rice with chicken and Thai salad. They quoted me 15-20 minutes. When I arrived the parking lot was empty, but I took a later lunch around 1:20 PM. On the door was a sign requesting patrons wear and mask correctly, which I appreciated. There were also a lot of signs about paying by cash. There was an additional 3.99% charge added to your total for any card payment. Fortunately I had cash on me. When I entered I was greeted by someone and asked if I had placed a Togo order. It was all ready for me. Total was $14.49 and I paid with a $20, but the cashier wasn't able to provide me with change. She had to wait for the owner to provide the change. The food smelled delicious and I could wait to dive in! The salad was a side salad but everything was very fresh and it was a good portion of lettuce. The dressing, a peanut salad dressing, was excellent. The fried rice was very good. A little on the peppery side, but I enjoyed it. Also the onions were still a bit crisp, which I enjoyed. All in all it was a tasty meal that hit the spot! So, my first impression of this place was that it looked like they had taken over half the dining area space for take out orders. Which is fine, I am sure that had a lot to do with COVID, but it all still looked very temporary and slap dash. Like its been three years, make it a thing if that's whats working for you? We order, pay and sit. The orders come out and everything is on paper plates, styrofoam bowls, plastic utensils. I mean, come on what is this? This is absolutely terrible for the environment. Also portion sizes were very tiny for what you order, although now that I think about it - it probably was so the plates and bowls did not collapse under the weight of the food. I am able to sample the Kanom Jeeb: Thai dumplings of pork and water chestnuts wrapped in potstickers. Served with special sauce. These were tasty, and prepared well. Satay: skewers of marinated, grilled chicken. Served with peanut sauce. The sauce was OK, did not have any more of a complex flavor than peanut, but the chicken was seasoned and juicy. Pad Ped: Spicy red curry sauce made with snow peas, bell pepper and onion with tofu - probably the best thing but I asked for it to be Thai hot and of course the heat barely registered. The worst part though was that my dish was supposed to have all of those vegetables listed, and I literally got one snow pea, one chunk of bell pepper and the rest was giant pieces of onion. That's a terrible deal. My moral compass insists that even if this was a 5 star place I cannot give them any more business for the plate and cup situation, so because its not even close to a five I will have to pass on Mai's Thai in the future. read more

I've been to this restaurant a few times now over the years. It's a simple location and not overly decorated. It's pleasant and simple. The menu isn't overly complicated and fairly direct as to its offerings In short they are easy to find, service is usually pretty good, unless really busy. The food is basically very good and authentic. It's a homey style but not a overly mood driven atmosphere i.e. as in romantic. Good place for real Asian (no MSG) simple eat and go. I've been going to Mai's for over 10 years now. The food quality has never changed and is literally the best Thai food I've ever tasted in the Kentuckiana area. Hands down. Covid did change the environment and dining room experience. She has continued to run the operation very lean. Mai didn't open the dining room until a year if not more after covid and has kept things minimal to be able to keep her restaurant doors open. We're all aware of the hits restaurants are taking with increases in food cost and supplies. While dining in Mai uses plastic and paper to decrease cost too. She has had to shift the concept from a nicer sit and dine place, to a come in for a simpler market experience, or order take out. I'll take it so I can get the best Thai food around. I beg of you to not judge this place for anything other than the food and kindness from Mai and that you're supporting a family business that a lot of people want to continue to support. read more

We are from California and have been to many many Thai restaurants, as well as in other states. We had a party of 6 but their tables only accommodate 4.The guy said we can sit at 2 tables.We requested to put them together, and one of the ladies was upset about that but they did it anyway.We were giving Thai tea with drips of the drink all over the foam cups.The curry and rice was served on paper bowls.They typically serve on ceramic plates and bowls, and if you have a restaurant, you should be doing that. The guy said we could order at the front or cashiers desk when ready so we did, but the table of white people next to us didn't have to pay until after their meal.What is up with that? Racism? Assuming we will skip out on the bill while having 3 young children in tow? Discrimination thinking we are poor? One of the ladies was very nice but the other lady always looked and acted angry and even yelled towards the end of our time there. The curry was extremely spicy, and I couldn't even enjoy it. There was also barely any chicken in it. It seemed like we, the paying customers, were an inconvenience to them, and they were not very accommodating. The food was okay but not good enough to come back for the food alone.Even if it was amazing, we won't be back because of the terrible service and treatment. When that is a basic dish you get at every thai place. The spring rolls were soggy and oily and the fried rice hardly had any basil or bell pepper in it. Not even kidding. Def not what was described in the menu. My experience was not good with Mai Thai. I would recommend to try other thai places in Louisville area. The prices are not cheaper either. 100 First I want to say I have had the food here often and I have never been disappointed! However, I had an order to go ( for my wife) and I was going to eat my order in the restaurant which I did. I ordered a side of chicken satay and it was brought to my table, and at that time I I asked the server if she could bring me a to go box because I was getting full. The consensus is this place is not pulling punches for Western palettes, come here if you want big flavors and real Thai spice! Here I am to rave about more noodles! I so badly wish I had pictures to share, but the food is so dang good I just can't stop eating long enough to take pictures!! Mai's Thai is the definition of comfort food. Filling, tasty, made with love! The tofu Pad Thai is so sweet and flavorful, and the ingredients are cooked to perfection every time. You can get it spicy is you like, but I love the sweetness too much. My favorite thing are the Corn Cakes which are crispy little fritter like bits. They're served with Mai's sweet and sour sauce, but it's unlike the gooey fluorescent pink stuff that you've enjoyed before. Its a clear light weight sauce, with little cucumber and red onion pieces floating around in it. 10/10 for me. I always order Togo and my food is always exactly as I ordered it, and the service is friendly and timely. read more

Best Thai place in the area! You could easily drive by and miss it but it's someplace you must try. You can dine in or carry-out. While in the restaurant you can look over all the snapshots from Mai's travels. Food is excellent, Mai's always back in the kitchen and her granddaughter will probably be your waitress. I love Mai's food. I've yet to have Thai food as good as hers. Currently, I'm going through the elimination diet. For those unaware of what this is, it's getting food stripped down of their allergens and no sugar. Mai is very accommodating and prepared to serve this up. She was able to make gluten free substitutes and changed the sugar out with the stevia alternative, and it was great. Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. On a side note, I'm a firefighter and we visit here some days while on duty. We have some guys that like their food very spicy, and they have NEVER talked about how weak the heat is when they order food hot lol. Pad Thai is the best around.
