HOLY SCHNITZEL! Wow, this place was awesome. Not only was the view from the balcony amazing, the food and service were as well. The schnitzel was a giant perfectly fried piece of veal. It came with a side of potato salad and cucumber salad. The flavors were outstanding. Well done team.

So we broke the cardinal rule of thumb, which is to always make reservations in a foreign country no matter how slow it might be on a weekday night. So when we walked in and said we needed a table for four, they looked as us with a bit of "ugh damn Americans.." type of frustration. But understanding that it was out bad for not making ressies we were sorry and apologetic. Once we were seated we turned on that friendly charm and rapport building and we were back in biz! So to the food...the food was good however, for as upscale as they claimed to be, I didn't think it was a 5 star worthy place. If you are ever passing thru definitely stop by after making a ressie and enjoy a bottle of wine and try the cheese apps and schnitzel entree!

Tuna with salad and guacamole.

So far my least favorite dining experience in Frankfurt. Although the food was good, the service left something to be desired. First the food. The seared tuna had a very nice flavor and texture and was cool but not cold which was very nice. The fresh salad had a variety of greens and was lightly but flavorfully dressed. The guacamole was a bit of a mystery but when combined in one bite with the salad and tuna was good. The boulliabase was spicy and good. So a solid 4 to 5 for food. I felt that as a single diner my service was limited. My dinner was served immediately after I received my water and glass of wine. I was then left waiting and waiting long after finishing all my water, wine, and food before I even saw my server again. I would have liked more to drink between my dinner and soup as I had finished it all before my soup arrived. Service was a 3. I did, though, appreciate that my server was able to put in an order for a small (rather than full) bowl of the fish soup. Also, I would not consider th8is a "casual" restaurant (as described to me) for dinner as most of the men were wearing suits and the women smartly dressed. I felt very out of place wearing a casual skirt and nice tshirt. They do take both cash and cards.

Currywurst mit Pommes un Weißbier

I discovered MainNizza as i was on my was to Städel Museum, that sits just by the River Main. The restaurant has a tremendous Biergarten (beer garden) overlooking the river, and after a whole day sightseeing, what better way to end the day than traditional German food, such as Currywurst. I will tell you that the Currywurst found at Christmas Markets around the UK is mediocre in comparison to the real thing in Germany. Oh my, the Currywurst at MainNizza is absolutely delicious! Definitely worth a visit: if not only for the view.

Excellent place for lunch. Menu didn't have a wide variety of items but enough to choose from. Staff was excellent. They noticed my daughter not touching her plate and came to look on their own accord- the chicken was very undercooked. If you are nearby stop in here for lunch!

Unfriendly staff, food is not bad, good, but service is beneath everything: slow, unfriendly, not commercial

A no frills establishment serving up some fine German cuisine!…read more Inside is rustic and warm. The staff is standing behind the bar, waiting to greet you. And you're immediately sat at bench like accommodations. We had our dinner a bit early since we had just landed, but keep in mind during busier hours, you may have to share your table with another party. We ordered the spaetzle, the vegan schnitzel, a lemonade and an apple wine. It took a bit but everything (but the drinks) were delivered piping hot and generously portioned. The spaetzle itself was cheesy and tender, with a lovely pile of caramelized onions on top.The salad provided helped to cut through the richness. The apple wine was nice and tart. And for 3 euros they pour with a heavy hand! The vegan schitznel, could not tell it was vegan as all. Very similar to chicken, with a crisp outer shell. The herb sauce served on the side was a nice burst of freshness on an otherwise heavy dish. The staff was overall kind. Maybe a bit slow, but nothing to scoff at. The food was great, the alcohol was cheap. What better way to start off your German adventure?

I took a bus there so I can't comment on the parking situation in the area. Ambiance (4/5): From the outside, Atschel looks like a homey, traditional restaurant. Which is exactly what I was looking for when it cam to my first dining experience in Germany. There's a charming inside area with wooden walls as well as a patio area in the back. I sat inside. Drinks (4/5): Frankfurt is known for apelwein or apple wine. So when in Rome...I had the apelwein spritz which adds soda and Aperol. I will say that straight up apelwein is not my jam. It's nice to try while you're in Frankfurt, but it's too bitter and vinegar-ey for me. With that being said, when you mix it in with Aperol and soda, it's pretty solid. And if you're in a group, you can get the apelwein served in large stone mugs which is pretty cool. Outside of that, they have a lot of beer, as you would expect, and pretty much everything else. Service (4.5/5): I was pleasantly surprised with how friendly and attentive the service was (which is typically not the norm in Europe). Our waitress checked on me, thanked me and said goodbye as I was leaving, and overall, did a great job. Food (4/5): Since this is a traditional German restaurant, I had to go with another Frankfurt specialty: Viener schitznel with green sauce. Schnitzel just means a thin cutlet (often pork) that is breaded. The green sauce is made from seven herbs and while it's a tad bit herb-ey for my taste, it was still interesting to try. The dish is served with fried potatoes. Filling and hearty as you would expect from a German meal. For my first meal in Germany, it was a great start to my trip.

Nice ambience and staff all speak English and are good at suggesting dishes to try! Beware portions are large - even by American standards!! My partner and I got 2 apps and a main to share and could not finish. We got the hand cheese music(?), beef sausage salad and a mushroom schnitzel. The schnitzel was by far the star of the show (as we should have expected)! The cheese is famous so we had to try it but sheep's cheese is a bit too strong for me and it had a harder texture than I prefer. My partner liked it though so I'd recommend giving it a shot if you're adventurous!! We also got their homemade lemonade which was a fizzy raspberry lemonade. Pretty good as well but wish I had tried one of their ciders!

They're trying to stick to the monastery beer vibe but it doesn't hit the mark in that regard. The old place was cozy and old and felt authentic, this place is new, loud and generic. Probably won't be back, unfortunately. If you like well lit, upscale, generic restaurants try this one out. The food is good but the ambience is off.
