Woodstove was sending huge puffs of smoke into the room. Maine Stove & Chimney looked at our wood stove and said it was totally fine. We called a different company, who showed us that the wood stove is in obvious need of new parts. Oddly, Maine Stove and Chimney tried to blame the problems on the design of the house (!). The repair folks are professional, knowledgeable, and do good work. So why only 3 stars? Because they charge $199 to walk in the door. If your stove needs an adjustment that takes 15 min, you still get charged $199 (assuming no parts are needed, that would be extra). For complicated jobs the cost is probably worth it, but for a quick job they are extremely pricey and will not pro rate the $199. read more

JJ and the guys at MS&C are as good as it gets. The last reviewer wasn't happy, similar to the car that couldn't get an inspection sticker. I have had numerous dealings with the staff and own equipment from them. Very honest and very helpful, much better than some of the other shops in the area. Anyone tell you a pellet stove should not have an outside air intake? Well these guys told me this and it's absolutely wrong! Ask efficiency maine. Because of this we were not eligible for the efficiency maine rebate. Also since it's taking inside air and dumping it outside, my house is now very drafty. I also had asked about getting a higher pellet chimney since they left it low and it swirls in my driveway. They never called back. Now the smoke swirls in my driveway, really fun when it's starting up and you're trying to get in your car with a toddler... not. Will never go to again and would not recommend! After they made their 3k for a full instal, they didn't want to hear from us about anything. read more

Called regarding my pellet stove not firing; they were able to diagnose the issue over the phone and come onsite within 48 hours. Also did a full cleaning and explained every part nad piece of the stove to me (I had just recently purchased the house), as well as made recommendations about maintenance I can do and what fuel to burn. On time, polite, knowledgeable, ok with kids playing in the living room while he worked. And on top of it, they take credit (cash or check, too) on the spot, and receipts can be emailed (or printed). All in all, got us up and running, and I learned some things to hopefully help keep us that way. I'll definitely be back. read more

I've called Maine Stove & Chimney several times over the years for service on my pellet stove. Whenever I describe the problem to them (and it's always the same problem) they always tell me "it's the pellets you're using." In fact, when they finally come to see the stove, it's never the pellets I'm using. The first time the problem happened, I couldn't get anyone to come out and help (because of course it was the pellets!) until I wrote a letter to the stove manufacturer. The manufacturer must have contacted them, because they were extremely responsive after that. If they weren't the only game in town, I wouldn't use them. Bad customer service for sure. read more

Their serviceman told us our stove needed to be removed, taken to the shop, 10 hours of labor and then reinstalled. We got a second opinion and it only needed a simple cleaning. We do not appreciate a local business trying to rip us off. We have no trust in this store. There is probably a very good reason they had to close one location. Stay away from this seller. read more

This is the first review I have ever written, but I think others need to know what crooks they are. We bought a pellet stove from Maine Stove and Chimney. They gave us a quote for the stove with installation included. They also told us a number of things about the stove that were not true. When the stove was installed, they charged us almost $500 extra for a small piece of pipe. They even lied to me and told me that was the price that I was quoted. They are liars and can not be trusted. read more
