I really cannot say enough good things about this company. I was under contract to purchase a…read morehouse and the close date was 2 weeks. The sellers had to push the date out citing the "snail slow speed of my title lawyer." Turned out, the sellers were trying to sell the property without any town permission on the subdivision, which is illegal actually. Chuck was diligently trying to get answers through the town planning council because the sellers wouldn't answer any questions, and their lawyer wouldn't return calls about the issue. He finally got a response and alerted me the night before the closing about the situation, saving me from untold legal costs and a total nightmare. He then stuck by me through 3 weeks of the sellers trying to find a workaround for the illegal sale. (They landed upon a contract where I would be in a mortgage with them until they were able to divide the property. Nope.) Subsequently, Chuck was my title lawyer for the property I eventually did close on, and the process was smooth, quick, and informative. I honestly can not recommend him highly enough. This is your team, and Chuck is your guy if you are planning to buy in Maine.

Ron-who may not be the owner of…read morethis business anymore- was pleasant and made it seem like his matchmaking skills were the best. He assured me that I would only need a three-month subscription because of my charms, education, financial stability, etc. He thought that his stable of eligible bachelors would delighted to see my profile. He was cagey about how many men in my age range that he had in his membership, but he guessed about 20% of his roster would be a potential match for me. I mentioned that I have a few things I need: taller than I am (taller than 5'8"), not a supporter of Donald Trump (Ron said that most women in his membership had that same requirement), and no older than 57-ish. Everything else was negotiable. Ron floated the idea of a 60-year-old man who was interested in having biological children. Pass. Then, he connected me with a man who was an ardent Trump supporter, who was aggressive to me at dinner, and who had abandoned his children to go live in another state for years. So that did not go well at all. Ron also set me up with a man who was 5'8" and then told me the man lied on his profile...which makes no sense, since Ron would have met him in person and known how tall he is. Then, he set me up with ANOTHER Trump supporter, who wanted a woman who could travel around the country in a camper van (that he renovated) during the summers...and I have a child at home, so that was not a fit. The guy was so disappointed that Ron set us both up with such a mismatch. Then...Ron sent me this guy's profile again, saying that it's a "new member", so I have to point out that it is not a new member; it's camper van guy. Ron also matched me with a man who doesn't live in the state of Maine and had no plans to move here, and this man cancelled our first date. After about a year, I gave up. He at least didn't keep trying to charge me. I went to Match.com and met a man fairly quickly. Match.com's algorithm did way better than Ron!

I've tried some of the dating sites but it just wasn't working for me. The dates i did go on left me scratching my head (What just happened ?) so i decided to try a service. I went on a search of matchmaking services in the Portland area and met with Noreen of Cara Matchmaking for a free meet and greet. I told her about some of the challenges I've been having (I can't flirt to save my life) and she gave me a few very easy ideas to try. Reading the self help books are good , but without someone to give me feedback , my most charming smile can look like a $%^ grin. Not gonna have the same effect ..... Noreen was very gentle and constructive and mentioned both what I was doing right (yay) and what "might need some work... " Feedback a date would never give. After the Dating 101 lesson she gave me a rundown of how her service works. Its 199/yr which compares favorably compared to sites such as okcupid (144/yr). She contacts people after a date so she can be a good sounding board of what went right and what didn't from my point of view. Her office is located in Biddeford but she has people (that she told me about) from Portsmouth to Falmouth and I know we didn't talk about all her people. She has a form that she fill out with the particulars (Interests, sign etc) but her focus is on learning about the person, ie the stuff a website can't do . I think we spent 3/4 of the time just talking so when I came back the next time she had a small high quality group of people that she thought would be a good match. I expressed an interest in a few and I'll update this based on how that goes.
