I dropped my laptop off early on a Wednesday and was told it might be ready thatday, but definitely the next. Thursday was told they'd get to it that night. Friday they had finally looked at it and had a question, said it would be finished Saturday. Called Saturday afternoon and several times Sunday with no response. Finally reached someone Monday who said their tech had taken the weekend off. I was only willing to pay their prices (nearly twice as much as others I checked) because they promised fast service. Would have been fine if they'd delivered what they offered, but definitely not worth it. I just got home and haven't used it yet, so I'm hopings it's actually fixed; since they weren't honest about when they'dfix it, I don'ttrustthem with anythingelse either. One place I don't want to be the Duke of! My son's iPad had a cracked screen so I brought it in for a repair. First I stopped by for a visit and spoke to a tech that was very responsive and reasonable. Got a quote of $263.00. Seemed reasonable and the tech was a prior Marine so I wanted to support them. It was promised with a Friday drop off I would get it back Wednesday. Didn't get the call till Saturday. I asked for protective glass to be applied. Which was another $59. I was not able to make Monday. When I came in the tech said I had been called multiple times. I was called once and I texted I would pick up the iPad Monday. On Monday I asked about the 10% off for cash and was told that was old and not honored. I also asked about my 10% Veterans discount and was told that was not a thing. At the time my dog chewed up a cord so I bought what I thought was the correct chord and was ensure I could return it if it was not the correct chord. Guess what...it was not the correct chord. When I returned it today it was a bit difficult. I had to explain why several times. Listen the chord was way over priced at $29.00! I found the right chord on Amazon for $9.99. My laptop hdmi port died, took it to them to get fixed and was told it would be cheaper to get a new motherboard. It took them 4 months to get my laptop back to me because they ordered the wrong parts or as I was told, someone's dog was in the store leading to my laptop being dropped and breaking the screen. I ended up with a completely different laptop. I asked them while they had it to add another hard drive, which they did with its own windows install. 3 months later, a windows update makes my laptop not boot. I take it somewhere else to find out these guys put a drive back in they labeled as corrupt. $700+ down the drain for a laptop I can't use. $130 for someone else to try and fix it. $400 for data recovery from the corrupt drives these guys put back in my laptop. Worst experience ever. I brought my Macbook in because the drive in it crashed. The tech, Angelo, told me this was because I hadn't updated my OS recently and the apps I'd downloaded weren't compatible with that version. Said I needed to replace the drive. Okay, no prob...I bought a new drive at Best Buy and brought it to him to install, which he charged me $30 to do. He also charged me $240 for "OS installation and configuration". He then sold me a $29 cord($7 on Amazon) so I could transfer my old profile and data myself which I did, it took all of 20 minutes(he would have charged $199). After doing so, the cord broke when I tried to unplug it. I should have known something was wrong when he handed it to me in a ziploc bag and it looked like it had been salvaged from a trash heap(bent in multiple places). Fast forward to later that night. The $240 for an OS install seemed outrageous to me, so I decided to do some asking around on a couple online computer tech forums, and everyone told me I got ripped off. I was also told that hard drives crashing because "the new apps aren't compatible with the older OS" is literally not a thing, and that Angelo didn't even run diagnostics on the crashed drive I brought in the first place. He made up a reason to sell me a new drive, and turns out that "OS installation and configuration" is literally just pushing 3 buttons, that's it. The average price for that is around $50. I went back the next day to confront him, starting with the faulty cord he sold me, and he immediately got angry with me and accused me of lying about the cord. I asked him if he ran diagnostics on the crashed drive and he yells "ARE YOU A CERTIFIED TECH??" No, but the advice given to me was from many. He was in full on angry mode from then on and wouldn't reimburse me for anything, told me to get out of his store. I used the Ellsworth ME location. Brought them a laptop with a virus and specified that I wanted the data saved and restored. That was on the work order. Three times over the nent week I got calls asking if I wanted the data saved. Do they not communicate? On both visits, the store did not open at the posted 12 Noon open tine, causing me delays. When picking up, the owner was there. He had difficulty finding my laptop and had to make calls to locate it. Disorganization? Now at home, I am strugging to reorganize scrambled files. I have had to replace my iPhone screen before. It's always cost between $80-100. They charged me $200 to fix the screen. I almost told them to keep the phone and refuse to pay, it never occurred to me they would up charge so much, better off driving to Bangor. Don't trust them with your device and data. I wish I had read the other reviews here before taking my computer to them. Taking my computer here was a stressful costly mistake. I was quoted a price of $240 and expected time to fix of 48 hours. I called to find out what was happening several times over the following week. I had spilled water on it. They said they would start drying it right away. Forty-eight hours later, no actions had been taken to dry it. Each time I was given a different story- my computer had been sent out, on day four they said they had started to dry it by putting in an alcohol bath and would be ready the next day, day six or seven, it had been in the alcohol bath for two days and was just taken out. After five days I gave up, and bought a new computer. I read reviews about how they save data without permission, so when it was ready, I showed up and paid over $400. When I tried to use it, it would not work. I returned it during the 30 day warranty. The technician claimed he repaired it but the hard drive quit after he "fixed the problem" but before I saw it. Some $$$$ solutions proposed. Every time I called or went into the store, there was a new set of employees. read more

Customer service at its best. I tried Apple store, geek squad and batteries plus before Maine geeks. The other three said the phone screen was in repairable due to chassis being bent. Maine geeks fixed the screen without issue. They even finished ahead of their predicted time. Will be coming back for future phone or computer repairs. read more

What's worse is that the thing was completely screwed up when I got it back. My girlfriend took her laptop to Maine geeks because it broke during midterms week. They said they would look at it and get back to her. She never heard back from them until she called and asked. Their communication was the worst. If we wanted to find out any details with what was going on with the laptop she had to call the store herself. After waiting a month for the repair that was supposed to take a week or two tops, it was finally finished. They offered no compensation for the massive delay and thanks to them she is now behind in all her classes (with all online classes due to COVID-19). If anyone is thinking about taking anything to this shop I would absolutely NOT recommend them. Before you bring in an old laptop, know that $120 is the base price to have Mainegeeks check it out. You are better off buying a new device. They fixed my 5-year old computer for more than $200 when it wasn't charging. Broke down 1 week later, I came back and they did not honor warranty, but offered to reduce the labor charge...price was going to be another $200. They wanted $500+ to fix a crappy old laptop. Had a friend bring a busted PS4 in recently, I was going to buy but they charged him $40 to check it out, called him 3-4 days later than expected, and fix will come to $150 they say. NO! Way! If I pay $150, that's the price of a FUNCTIONING ps4 on Craigslist,Facebook marketplace, uncle Henry's etc...My friend can't make any money on deal, now we're both pitching in $20 to get it back. Former "General Manager" (in quotes because he only pays minimum wage and for most of my time it was under the table, and only stopped paying under the table because the labor board caught up with him) of Maine Geeks here. Be very cautious bringing your equipment here. He charges EVERYBODY for a proximity sensor on their iPhones even though he reuses the old. Will also try to sell you a battery or other internal component telling you the old one is bad but its not. As far as computers, that is the worst, ANYTHING software related he claims the operating system screwed up and charges $180 for a format and rebuild, even if its something as little as a dropped driver that should take less than an hour labor to fix. When he does a data migration, he KEEPS ALL CUSTOMERS DATA in his server. I am guessing about 75% of reviews on google are bought by him. He will pay $10 per review on google. His business practices are shady and i DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYBODY BRING ANYTHING TO THIS SHOP! read more
