Andy and his assistant, George, were nothing short of rude and unprofessional. DO NOT take clothes you care about here. For clothes you care about, make the drive to Lamoine and go to Sue Sewing or Acadia Sewing + Alterations. My first issue is that there is hardly any rhyme or reason to the pricing model at this place. They charged my male friend and I $60 and $50, respectively, for the EXACT same job (altering a dress uniform and sewing on patches). Then they charged a female friend of mine $85 for the exact same work. My second issue is that, when I came to pick up my articles, they had been mixed up with another person's clothes. Granted, the clothes that had been mixed up were two of the same uniform (Army dress uniform), but there had been no care taken to make sure the correct clothes were given to their respective owner. My jacket had been placed with another person's pants, and vice versa. My third issue is that an error had been made while altering my clothes, but this was not mentioned to me when I came to pick it up, I discovered it myself after I had taken my clothes home. So either they did not realize they had made such a huge mistake, or they made a big mistake and A) chose not to correct it and B) did not mention it to me. In addition to all of this, they lost a button on my uniform, which cost me $10 to replace. My fourth issue is that Andy gave me incorrect information over the phone about when to pick up my clothes. For context, I had dropped my clothes off on a Friday, and Andy told me they would be ready on Monday. Come Monday, I called Andy around 10:00AM to ask if my clothes were ready to be picked up, and he said they were ready. I then drove to the shop, but when I got there, Andy told me they would not be ready for 3 more hours. Overall poor service and poor quality. read more

Although I am appreciative for the under 48 hour turnaround time on a piece that needed alterations for a wedding... Service issues lie in areas of 1. Customer Service - rude employee (not Andy himself), 2. Quality - dress returned without buttons attached (wrap dress) and multiple stains present. Upon return to the shop Andy did find and attach missing buttons promptly, but took no responsibility for stains incurred while in the care of the business. The dress since has been dry cleaned and made it to the wedding - suspected grease stains. Aside, the dress itself was altered as needed and fit well. read more

Drove all the way down (130 miles) to have the sleeves on a suit jacket shortened. Looked at it less than a minute and said he wouldn't do it because it had to be done from the shoulder and not the wrist. read more

He lost my clothes!!! I dropped pants to be shortened with some young man who works there in the afternoon and now the clothes are gone. Andy denies he has them has no way to find them. PLEASE do not leave anything there that you are not prepared to have lost. I now have 4 outfits for which I have the top but no pants. read more

I needed to have my dress altered and unfortunately my seamstress was booked out. I googled and found Andy and called him, he seemed nice on the phone and told me to come in so I did. I dropped off my dress that he said he could fix and left, I was very pleased with the turn around time(just 1 day) until I went back in for pick up. There was a younger man there who barley spoke, he handed me my dress and asked for fifty dollars. I looked at him and said "FIFTY?" and he said yes. I reluctantly handed the cash over even though I was shocked he wouldn't let me try it on to make sure the work was right.. he didn't even show me what had been done. Very unprofessional. I asked for a receipt but was not given one which I thought was a little strange since they only accept cash, you'd think they would want that for their "books" ha. After inspecting my dress I found that the belt had been detached and not sewn back on, there was white thread in black fabric, and his work was messy to say the least. I called back to get an explanation as to why it came to $50 and was told Andy would be back the next day. My sister ended up calling and spoke to Andy because I was working while Andy was there. She asked that I get $20 back so that I can bring the dress to a different seamstress to fix the work. He was rude and hung up on her. He literally compared himself to a car repair shop... 10/10 do NOT recommend this place. I understand that he is trying to make a living but I truly feel I was taken advantage of. read more

I walked in to Andy's to have a pair of jeans shortened. Unlike other tailors, I didn't have to pay ahead of time and I was in and out in minutes. Andy informed me my jeans would be ready any time the next day and he called me around 11:30 the following day to remind me they were ready. Best part of the deal? The jean job was $8. I came back for a difficult dress (lace) alteration and, again, Andy had it ready the next day ($18). The place is cash only, so be sure to come prepared. I had a little trouble finding Andy's, so be on the look out for a white house just before St. Joseph hospital (if you're coming from Stillwater Avenue and downtown Bangor). This is the only place I'll trust for my tailor needs in Bangor! read more

I took a dress here to get shortened. It may have been shortened a little too much, but I went with what he and the other woman standing there said, which was to take off an inch. I was thinking more of 1/2 an inch. I wanted it to still be down to the ground if I was wearing heels. The sheer part still is, but the under layer is not, so it feels a little off to me. Other than that, I would take items to them again. read more

Andy promised to have a bridesmaid's dress ready the day of the wedding. Less than 24 hours before the wedding he advised us the dress wasn't done and he was going out of town for the weekend. Thankfully we found Lai at Henry's Bridal on Washington St. who was willing to do the work. Andy almost single-handedly ruined our friend's wedding. read more

I purchased my wedding gown from a thrift shop. I needed slight alterations performed on the gown. Another seamstress in the area only accepts gowns purchased from the local bridal shop. I was recommended by a friend to go to Andy the Tailor. She specifically told me to work with George. I called the shop two different times to make sure I was getting accurate information--I admit I was hesitant to trust my gown to this establishment, after finding mixed reviews online. Both men said they work on wedding gowns and I would not need an appt. George was in the shop when I brought my gown in. So this review is based on George's work. I have never met Andy, and after the fact, have heard in the community that Andy does great work. During my first visit, George argued with me about inserting a modesty panel. I asked if there were alternatives since a modesty panel would not blend with the design of my gown. He said No abruptly, saying he does it for brides all the time and they are pleased with their gowns. My gown had covered buttons from the top of the zipper, down the back to the bottom hem. He told me he would make a Y with the bottoms to have them join at the bottom of the zipper. I told him it wouldn't flow with the design of the gown--he insisted. I knew it would look terribly, and didn't want to argue about it any longer so I had him remove all the buttons. He told me he didn't need me to try on the dress during this first visit, that it would be fine. I asked about taking up the hem. He said "it would be too much work" and that he wouldn't do it. During my next visit I tried on the gown. The modesty panel was attached to the gown with simple threaded loops and held together with thin organza craft ribbon. George argued with my future mother in law. When asked she asked how much it would cost to have the hem taken up, he sarcastically responded "would you spend all that time taking off the lace, hemming and then putting it back on? I'm not doing it." Then when I asked about putting an eye hook on the back to close the opening of my skirt to the zipper (the zipper was exposed), my request was met with a sigh, and the comment that it looked fine. The seam on my bust was crooked, so it didn't align with the shape of my body. I hated how I was being treated. I was not a bridezilla, I was making simple requests and being treated as if I were putting him out. He was berating and argumentative. I brought the gown home before the bustle was added. When I put the gown in the car and drove away I noticed a hideous smell--my gown reeked of artificial cherry scent, similar to the air freshener of a gas station bathroom. Thankfully with the help of Facebook, I discovered an incredible bridal shop in Pittsfield. After having the gown dry cleaned, the new seamstress literally rebuilt the gown to correct the devastation that was done. This occurred 3 weeks before my wedding. They certainly do not do bridal gowns despite what they tell you. As I have asked around in the community, it seems their forte is simple alterations on slacks, suit jackets and shirts. read more

We just started using Andy's about six weeks ago. I have already made two trips in for repairs. I have to say he does an excellent job with the alterations and also with much needed repairs to a rough sack (I believe that is what they are called). It looks like a back pack, but is more rugged or is supposed to be. I find his prices to be great, his repair work awesome and quick, and overall he is just a friendly guy. He does do cash only business, but I completely understand this as he has a lot of small charges and the person or business gets charged a fee for the use of those visa/mastercard machines. I believe it is a percentage of the charge so it would probably drive his prices up. When he calls and lets me know my stuff is ready, I just ask him how much so I always have enough cash with me for the repair. Someone on here mentioned he does not press the clothing after repairs. First of all, he actually did press our jeans and secondly, he is not a dry cleaner, he is a tailor. I found his house easy to find as it is practically in the parking lot of St. Joseph's Hospital.
