From the Caribbean to Maine, the worst boatyard operating today…read more My dinghy and motor were stolen while in their possession. They subcontracted the bottom sanding and painting. Did not follow my instructions; they did not even sand the bottom prior to painting; it's guaranteed to fail. They serviced the engine, including the impeller; then overheated the motor. They then replaced the impeller a second time - which works fine - but charged me for the re-do. They also overfilled the engine and generator with oil. They overfilled the coolant on the generator. They under filled the engine coolant by more than a liter. They left the Turbo exhaust hose clamp loose and leaking. Then charged me 8.5 hours for sea trial and quality control. There is more, but you get the idea... Poor maintenance. No supervision. No quality control. And for all this premium boatyard experience, they delivered the boat 8 weeks late - half the cruising season in Maine! Lyman-Morse: the worst of the worst!

The owner guaranteed me that this boat did not take on water. He dissuaded me from having a boat survey, assuring me that this boat had been meticulously restored. The boat broker, John Snyder represented that the boat was in superb condition and had only been out of the water for 2 years. The boat arrived with a registration had been expired for over 4 years! The bottom of the boat is spongy and is in unusable and dangerous condition. Three wooden boat experts have confirmed that the entire bottom of the boat needs to be replaced. The boat had been unprofessionally patched up for sale purposes. Complete crooks. The price I paid was absorbent considering it requires $20,000 worth of repairs. The owner would not offer anything in consideration. Completely greedy, untrustworthy, and unprofessional. Following up with the Attorney General and filed with the Better Business Bureau to try and protect others from these scam artists.

First, they wouldn't let me bring in a 3rd party to shrinkwrap my boat which is understandable. But then they charged me nearly the cost of winter storage to do it! Then in the spring they charged me again to take away the plastic! Now the worst of it. I requested an estimate to have my mast and boom painted. I received an estimate of $3,100-$3,500 in writing (which took 3 months to get). I gave the go ahead and let them know that it was barely in my budget. Without any notice, I got invoices totaling $9,000! When I called to ask about this they tried to justify it with man-hours worked and materials. I got threatened that my boat would be held until what was due was paid in full! This is why I asked for an estimate! I understand that their are sometimes extras when you get into it, but a good boat yard will hit their estimate or be very close to it. Do not use Ocean Pursuits. I should have done diligence and asked around about them first. I have since learned that this is how they always do business.
