Last week, I found myself driving around playing tour guide with my cousin who was visiting from…read moreout of town. As we cruised through Bandera, we decided to stop to check out Main St. We found Fickle Pickles. She fell in love with the pickles so of course had to take a few jars home with her. * On a side note, her office has a pickle tasting day so she was stocking up, Lol! I first heard and tasted Fickle Pickle about 2010 at an after concert party with Rik Emmett of Triumph. I met the owner who had her pickles out and we chatted about what she was doing with the company. Well after reading the "About" section on their website, I must have met the daughter... and I had no clue that the pickles have been around so long or were so popular. Fickle Pickles was founded in 1987 in Boerne, Texas by Billie Shaw affectionally known as "The Pickle Lady." In 2004, she retired so her daughter, Lisa Armstrong, and son-in-law took over production. A second store opened in 2006 in the historic district of Gruene in New Braunfels then in 2014, the 3rd store opened in Bandera on Main St. Fickle Pickles are sweet, spicy, crunchy... and very addicting! No one wonder they find themselves with three store fronts in tourist destinations plus a world wide shipping business. Gotta try them!

We needed up buying a bottle and ate them within a week;some right out of the bottle and some mixed with sandwiches and a pulled chicken!! Delicious They also have an array of very cool antiques and vintage items. I ended up buying an old 2 man lumberjack saw to put up on my wall :) looks super cool!!!

I always visit when I am back in the area, and today was my second visit in 2 years. Eva was on site and she is always willing to work with you for a sale. She has a nice indoor shop with a good variety of antiques and vintage. She likes to stock quality finds and it shows! Outside are some great yard art offerings and other kitschy stuff. I bought a metal cactus and a rusty roadrunner art piece, both made in Mexico. Eva offered them at 20% off! Those are going to my southwest loving mom back east There are several other buildings with offerings from vintage kitchen items to huge wooden store display pieces. I purchased a Royal Doulton figurine and the price was so good that when I saw this same item later today in another store, I paid 50% less and 75% less at Eva's. A little bisque doll head she gave me at 50%. Years ago I took a furniture item I bought from Eva to the Antiques Roadshow. The Keno brothers assessed its value at just over what Eva priced it so she knows the true value of what she has and she isn't jacking up the price. Eva buys all over the country so she brings the best variety to her Hill Country shop but stays true to the tastes of customers shopping in the Texas Hill Country. If you find yourself on the road to this business, stop in and treat yourself to a unique shopping experience and cool stuff.

Lots of fabulous Warren cabinets with drawers and cases of varying sizes, of general store cabinetry fame. Deals with American antiques and you will find great Americana pieces. Make sure you check the patio and all 3 buildings. Hungry? go to the Bistro - both the food and service is amazing. We live in San Antonio, but consider the drive well worth it to find such wonderful pieces to check out and adopt!
