Five stars for their birthday parties…read more We've attended a couple birthday parties here now and they're always a blast. The woman who leads it has always been the same (and I feel terrible for not knowing her name.) She is high energy, great with kids, and her super power is knowing every child's name. It's amazing! The kids are led through a ton of different gymnastics courses that pretty much any age can do. My son is four and loved it. It's interactive enough that they usually aren't just standing in line waiting but always moving. The room upstairs is then used for food and cake time. Then back downstairs for free play, which the children always love. Parents can keep their shoes on, which I appreciate. Kids are barefoot. They always take a group picture that they organize so the birthday party walks away with a wonderful picture.

I went to watch my grandson have his weekly gymnastics class, and it was quite an adventure. This…read morewas my first time, and I was surprised at how crowded it was for the kids, yet it was very organized. I went upstairs to the sitting area for watching the kids below. It was very crowed up there, too. The class started on time, and for a small group of 2 years olds, they really got a workout. (and the parent too) The rule is, no one on the floor without a teacher and for the little ones, a parent also participates as an extra helper. There was a routine that the group went through, which included fun and challenging activities. They use a balance beam, a rock wall, a zip line into a foam pit, and a bunch of floor exercises. My grandson was very happy to be there, and I was really happy to have been able to come see him burn off lots of toddler energy. The parking area was quite crowded but there was enough parking and there was also a swim school attached to the gymnastics building. (He also does swim lessons, which he also loves.) The facility is not very modern but then, it has everything at reasonable prices.

All seemed clean enough, especially the pool. There's one low diving board and both Adirondack and lounge chairs, as well as some bleacher seating. There's a nice undersea mural on one wall, and lovely vegetation in the other: hibiscus, birds of paradise, palms. I wish we had something this easy-going and cheap where I live outside Atl! I see some have complained about life guards, but I didn't see anything out of line. No food or drink other than some vending machines, but they let you bring in whatever you want. My only complaint (if you can call it that) was that the concrete around the pool gets super hot in the afternoon sun, so wear water shoes or keep your flip flops nearby.

For classes, it costs $5 per class and $4 to use the pool. You're able to buy a $20 pass for multiple visits. To use the tennis courts, it's free of charge ( including use of rackets and balls) before 5pm; and I really enjoyed the boxing class. Great workout. Overall, it has clean facilities and the staff was nice. I wish they offered a monthly membership, because it can get pricey going several times each week. Overall, I will continue to enjoy the facilities considering I don't live in the area and only attend once or twice a week.

To use the pool, you must have a Tampa recreation card. I do lap swimming in the morning, so I also purchased a lap swimming pass. I believe the total came out to $25, which is affordable and will give you unlimited access. Parking is not crowded when I go, but I am usually there right at 7 am. They have showers, restrooms, and changing areas. I didn't see lockers, so you'll need to store your stuff in your car, but that isn't a big deal. I love this place and enjoy Tampa's recreation facilities.

Overall, a very nice public pool. I'm both a platform/springboard diver (and play some water polo)…read moreand an architectural historian, so I have a bunch of things to say here. I'm not sure when the pool was built but in the early 1970s sounds like from what I was told there, making it a full decade newer than I presumed based on the architecture. But what architecture it is! That façade--you just don't get public architecture for mundane things like parks and rec very often anymore. Despite the mid-century modern understatement, it still has something to say and I wish we'd see more of that today. People have commented on the restrooms/locker rooms. Personally, I was not bothered that the men's locker room was showing its age. It still worked fine. What surprised me was the individual shower stalls instead of a gang shower given its date of construction. And I think the whole men's locker room likely is original and without major updates beyond minor fixtures like soap dispensers. For a public facility at this time of construction to have individual stalls would have been considered a bit of luxury. The current state of the mens' locker room is no worse than many pools I've been to for diving and better than the much newer Cecil Aquatic Center in Jacksonville. The dive well: There's a 1m and a 3m board, which is nice. Both are older but in fine shape. The dive well itself is 14ft but tapers off away from the boards to around 6ft. It's safe, but trying to get a dive a good ways out I was concerned by how it looked from the 3m I'd hit bottom but didn't. It's just a visual illusion and I'm used to pools 16ft deep in their dive wells, too. The dive well is located centerline in the pool between swim lanes, which is cool. All the lifeguards and staff I spoke with were awesome and endured my nerdy questions about the history of their facility. Besides open swim, they have a great program seems of water polo, artistic swimming, and other things going on keeping the facility busy. Overall, I highly recommend!
