Lack of institutional control. I have been a spectator and a volunteer coach at this facility and it seems like a money grab when it comes to youth sports. They don't hold the staff accountable for their bad behavior and decisions. The volunteer staff is improperly trained. When you bring up concerns about some of these issues you are ignored. read more

By far the worst YMCA. No where for kids who are in between the "workout age" and "kids care" age to go and there are only like 1- 2 kids in there. Splash Pool and slide hours are also awful. Basically not accommodating at all. We will be going somewhere else for sure. It's surely a bummer because the facility is nice. read more

As part of my real-life job I have the opportunity to tour the Tampa area YMCA's and participate in their annual safety inspections. Our risk management team recently visited the Campo Family YMCA off of Bloomingdale Road in Valrico / Lithia and we were very impressed by what we saw. The Campo Y has the largest number of members of any of the YMCA's in the Tampa region, and so the staff is constantly walking through the facility and around the pool area to check on the well-being of their members. This time of year the Campo Y is filled with young kids enjoying their summer vacations, and so it is especially important to be sure that everyone is safe. Immediately upon entering the Y you're greeted by several people who will scan in your ID and get you on your way towards the pool or workout areas. If you have questions about special classes or want to get the little ones enrolled in summer camp then there are plenty of people at the front desk who can help. There is a large area just past the main desk which is filled with treadmills, StairMasters, bicycles, rowing machines, free weights, and aerobic and strength training machines. I am sure that this area is packed during the after-work rush, but in the middle of the day there is plenty of room for everyone. There are a variety of workout rooms for Zumba, Spinning, Step Aerobics and so on, and a large basketball gymnasium towards the back of the facility. The locker rooms are large and well-maintained, with rubber mats on the floor to prevent slipping. The mats guide you through the locker rooms, and out to the pool area. Everyone passes by the lifeguard station before being allowed out onto the pool deck. Children are given a color-coded wrist bracelet to show if they are a skilled swimmer, and the circulating lifeguards watch the children very carefully to be sure that they stay in the correct areas. There is a main pool for lap swimmers and Adults, an infinity edge pool with all sorts of climbing options and slides for the young kids, and a third pool with several water slides. This is a very family-friendly facility, and the staff goes out of their way to be sure that their members have a safe and enjoyable experience while visiting the Campo Y. Once again the Y has totally devastated my teenager. They have told her that she is worthless and doesn't matter to them in the slightest. They did this by destroying one of her greatest passions. They swiftly and without mercy cancelled the swim team for which she has shown great dedication and loyalty. The head coach could of cared less as he destroyed their futures, instead acted like Valrico was the butt end of the world as it was clear he would never lower himself to train these young people, who are our future and aspire to greatness. Ashamed that I ever thought the Y to be a place for our children to grow and become future leaders. Today my daughter learnt she was disposable garbage. read more

I used to go to the downtown YMCA, but it was just too small and got crowded in the space that they had. This location is a little further to get to, but it's worth it! It's spacious, well maintained, and everyone is friendly. There's plenty of machines and weights in the workout area. They have a giant pool, kids programs, a gym, and a big room for workout classes. The machines are very well maintained. Staff are always walking around. It's a welcoming environment and the members I've encountered are all polite. read more

A 90-year-old woman outplanked me at this Y. I'll take whatever she is having! Awesome Les Mills Classes...Body Pump, Step, ZUMBA, Spinning, Combat, swimming, etc. They also offer something pretty cool...diabetes classes, eating, etc. That is really cool and necessary and they are free!! You get 4 free trainings when you sign up and of course they will try to sell you more. Miko was my free trainer, and she is actually worth coming back to. I will probably do that in the fall. They have group "trainings" for TRX and also boot camp type stuff. I really hope they open the TRX up to the whole gym. If you like Zumba...go Wed night and Friday night. They will work your butt off. Also the daily lunchtime Zumba is taught by a 70-year-old woman who's got the moves like Jagger. Single membership is $50 a month...if you have a friend who is already a member, please use them as a reference...they get a FREE month!!! It's a cool thing to do. read more

Have been a member for years. Never have I ever seen anything like the new schedule. There is literally nothing for your member kids to do during the day before 4 pm unless they are enrolled in a full camp other than the splash pad. No gym. No courtyard. No kid zone. No yatZ. Absolutely absurd to have a family membership there when it is quite literally unusable for kids during the summer. Cancelling my membership and will not be returning! read more

My husband and I have been attending this Y for a year and a half. This facility has great diversity in its members: young, old, kids, moms, dads and a united nations of cultures. I especially enjoy the morning classes for Yoga, Pilates and Yogalates. My husband enjoys the weights and FREE coffee! LOL The staff are all helpful and welcoming. All the members are friendly and eager to encourage you and laugh with you over your constant struggle to stay healthy and balanced.....and flexible. Great place. Mostly use the gym. I have all equipment I need to accomplish my workout. Plenty of treadmills. At 5am the place is empty vs Crunch across the street where you cannot get anything without someone waiting to work in. They have a "max results" room for crossfit exercises and in the AMs it is mostly available too. read more

This facility is the best in the area. It's huge and has enough equipment despite it's large membership and constant traffic. They have several treadmills, Stairmasters bikes, weight machines, free weights and classes to meet and exceed your needs. They also have a nice lap pool and gymnasium. I never feel crowded or unable to use any equipment as needed. Sometimes I arrive at 5am and several members are already well into their workout. The employees are professional and willing to help. It's a little more expensive than other gyms in the area but you can't beat the availability of equipment or classes. read more

We just moved here from Seattle and already I'm in love with this Y. So many options for classes and not just exercise but crafts, parenting etc. The best part for me is the Les Mills programs. I have been taking Les Mills classes for over 10 years and the options for times here is amazing. I am never at a loss for classes. There is also a text your spot option so that you can guarantee your space. I also love the television on the cardio equipment. There is an option for CrossFit type classes and the pool options are spectacular. Can't wait to take the kids in the summer. If you find a member to pair with you can get 20% off monthly. read more

I love this place! besides being a convenient it offers a ton for the price. a rock wall, free aikido and judo classes. not to mention the "body series" type exercise programs, spin classes. a heated pool and separate pool w slide. plenty of running, elliptical machines. could use a few more weight machines but it's never a long wait. look to see if your company/work has a discount. there are plenty that do. also you can go to any of the Y's in tampa. and of course when you travel. there's also a day room for kids to play in. although this place does get packed during certain hours, it's still a fantastic place to go! read more

I'm a fan of the YMCA no matter what. I've been a member since I was a young kid in Texas where I swam on the swim team. When I travel I take advantage of using other facilities. And when I'm home I visit my Y every day. I recently just moved to the Tampa/Riverview area from Sarasota. I've been coming to Campo Y as a guest for the past few years before my husband and I got married. Now I'm a member. Campo YMCA has it all - spin classes, aerobics, rock climbing gym, nice cardio equipment, weight machines, free weights, a lap pool and a small kiddie water park. Did I also mention, they have LOTS of people there too? I guess with all the great amenities (and numerous track homes in the area) comes a plethora of people (and their kids) determined to get fit. Here are my two comments, and don't you worry, I've already filled out a couple comment cards to let them know how I'm feeling! 1. The lap pool is entirely too warm. Yeah, I know kids like to fluff around in there, and those water aerobic people don't get their heart rate over 50 so they never warm up. But those folks who actually want to use the lap pool for what it is... well, we practically have a heat stroke in there. TURN DOWN THE TEMPERATURE AND PLEASE BE CONSISTENT WITH IT... or you are going to lose all your lap swimmers to the New Tampa 50 meter pool where they keep it at 82 degrees year round (still too warm for the summer in my book!). 2. Why don't you have a 7:15 am spin class? You know to accommodate those who don't quite have it in them to wake up at 5:30 and those who don't want to deal with the stay-at home moms at the 815 class? Allison's classes are the best. High energy, aerobic punch the heck outta them classes that will leave you feeling dead, but in a good way.

LOVE this Y! I live in the neighborhood that this Y is situated in and we've been meembers here for 5 years or so. There is something for everyone in your family. This is GREAT for Mom's who are trying to get back in shape, there is a daycare where you can drop your kids off for up to 2 hours. I've taken tons of their classes, LOVE their Zumba, Body Pump, Yoga, and CX Worxx, classes are also included in your membership. They also offer spin classes if the mood should strike you. They also have a little water park. Nothing to do in the summer when it's hot, let's go to the Y. This is really a great facility and you truly get your money's worth. This is an excellent beautiful facility. It offers all kinds of classes for adults and children. I do Zumba while my kids can do karate or stay in childcare, or rock climb. The equipment is well taken care of the there is plenty to do. Not to mention, the water park rivals any water park in the area. They offer an array of pool aqua classes and the gym offers organized sports for the children. Clean and well maintained facility. LOVE IT!!!! read more

The CAMPO YMCA is one of the best Y locations I have been too. The staff is really nice and helpful. The play center crew is phenomenal (BTW hours are 8-8 now). They get that this is your chance to let off some steam and they will do their best to sooth your fussy, whiney and loud baby before they have to interrupt your workout. I really appreciate how well mannered the teenagers who work out in this gym are. The gym is located to a few high schools and everyone who works out is respectful of the equipment and rules. I never see people running around or acting immature. The equipment is in good condition and the facility is clean. I see people of all ages there. read more

HORRIBLE!! I registered my 8 year old to camp. He's very well traveled and has been to other camps before and always had a great experience and never any complaints. However, this camp ... On 1st day, when I was picking him up, (after getting an attitude from one of his instructors) My son started complaining that he doesn't want to go back because their "instructors" yell at them, they didn't do much all day, they were allowed in the pool for only 15 minutes, and they had nothing to do with his " Specialty camp" which we paid extra for. I figured, maybe it was because it was first day and it would get better. On the second day, I pick him up and he was full of red marks on his body, red face , crying ( he NEVER cries!) and complaining that his arm hurts because the high school kids that are "working" with them, put them all to the wall and THREW BALLS AT THEM. I asked him if maybe they were just playing and he said that they were throwing balls at them HARD and hitting them on purpose because they were told they were being " too loud" . He also mentioned that few other children in his group were crying ( and these are 8 year olds!) and he mentioned again, that they were being yelled at all day! When I called to pull him out and ask for a prorated refund for the rest of the week, whoever answered the phone, was extremely rude, interrupting and raising her voice at me. She also told me they don't refund although it states on the website " Satisfaction Guaranteed or the unused portion of the unused portion fee willingly refunded. We had to get in touch with the VP of youth development to get that settled. I also heard from other friends that had their children there for the camp, that they were very unhappy. I've never seen my child so traumatized and he was only there 2 DAYS!! read more

I was not impressed with the CAMPO Y, especially with a $80 a month family membership fee. While overall the staff was pleasant and professional my issues came with the price, the limited access to the lap pool during the school year, the limited child area (for children 6-9 and the limited free weight area. The Y charges $80 a month for a family plan, while it does have a pool, many newer and nicer gyms with more workout equipment and free weights are only charging $10 a month. Plus my children activities were limited to a kid room with a couple couches and a ping pong table, or a babysitting room. The family plan offers no benefit here. I was constantly frustrated I was regularly unable to use the lap pool during the week because it was occupied by local swim teams. I was basically told that between 3pm and 8pm M-F, the swim teams would be in the pool and better times to swim would be first thing in the morning (530am), lunch time or weekends. That was unacceptable to me as a paying member, because the primary reason I joined was to have access to a pool. Finally, while they do have a good amount of cardio machines, the free weight area is extremely small, with a limited number of squat racks and bench presses for the number of people working out. I will say the staff was great, very professional and friendly and I never had any problems with them. Bottom-line is the price exceeded the value of the membership, if the membership was $40 a month I would have been happier with the product, but I just don't see how they can justify their membership fee and continue to compete with many of the newer workout facilities charging only $10. read more

This location is next to NONE! I absolutely love this YMCA! I am literally addicted to the fitness classes are this gym! The instructors are FABULOUS & very inspiring! I personally love the Body Combat classes! You will sweat your heart out! Allison is AMAZING! I come here a couple times a week, my best friend comes with me, we drop the kids off at the daycare area and they have a BLAST while we work out! I have been a member of a lot of gyms (YouFit, Anytime Fitness, ect) this one is the best! read more

I play volleyball at the Y and have been practicing during the scheduled times with the rest of the team. I recently went in and wanted use part of the gym area to practice; but was annoyed to see that there was no room because of all of the basketball players. I love the facility; but when it comes to this situation, I wish they had set aside part of the gym for sports other than basketball. read more

After today I would give them a 0. This place is extremely mismanaged, especially when it comes to the swim team. They just lost a great swim coach (Coach Don) today because of this poor management and lack of communication. Coach Don put a lot of effort into growing this program significantly and was highly invested in his swimmers. They will not find a better coach and much less retain one with the way they treat this program. Respect and Communication go a long way. read more

Okay, so this is my third Ymca and by far my favorite. The staff and programming here is on a whole other level and the customer service goes well above and beyond. Yeah, you could go to one of the "cheaper gyms" nearby, but I can guarantee that you won't get even close to what the campo y can offer. You have a massive amount of free classes that you can choose from, a handful of weekly meetup and activity groups, top notch childcare with well trained staff where you know your kids are safe. And the indoor playroom is way better than any other that I've seen in the area. On top of that there's also several free family activities per month as well as the famous "parents night out" where you can drop your kids off(5 and up) and have a babysitter from 6:30-9:30, for FREE if your a member. All in all, this is a great place that can provide a family or individual a one of a kind experience that the other "gyms" could only dream about. Come give it a chance because that y is so much more than just a gym. read more

Seven years ago I joined the Campo Y and was extremely disappointed in the lack of attention my small children got in the play center and the overpacked facility. I ended up quitting. Over 4 yrs ago I moved to FishHawk and tried their Y. Fell in love with it and the people there. Felt like my children were really taken care of there. In the Spring we found out they were closing the FishHawk Y and were told by Campo Y staff that it was because the membership was down. They were lying to us considering there were classes you had to sign up for in advance to get into. Basically they didn't want to keep paying the rent at the FishHawk facility since they are building a much bigger Y south of us. So the FishHawk crowd is being forced to go to Campo or to join another gym. I thought I would give Campo another try since my oldest was going into high school and I knew Coach Don was now coaching there as the swim coach. We always loved Don from a previous club we swam at and I knew he would be the perfect fit for her as she entered high school. My kids are now older and seem to enjoy the play center so the only inconvenience was the drive to get there compared to the FishHawk Y. I was adjusting to the new routine and then I'm told Coach Don is leaving. I am beyond disappointed and honestly don't know what to do. I do know if they don't bring Don back they will have a drastic drop in membership and their club swim program will decline sharply. They are already going to be losing a lot of members at the end of this month due to the closing of the FishHawk Y and other gym options that are cheaper and closer to those residents. Now they've gone and made another huge mistake. At this point in time I would never recommend them to a family looking to join. And I used to rave about the FishHawk Y and just last week I was raving about how wonderful the club swim was at Campo. They truly need to get someone new in management and have some type of consistency. read more
