Perfect place to get out and stretch your legs. Clean restrooms with flush toilets available off…read morethe parking lot. Great beach access and not as busy as the beach access in Cape Kiwanda. When we were there we only saw one family when we arrived and two families as we were leaving. Makes for a lot of room to let your dog run on the beach without bothering anyone. A family was flying a kite while we were there too...made us wish we would have bought one. It was the perfect weather for it!

As state parks goes Bob Straub is an interesting place. It's the southern peninsula at the mouth of…read morethe Nestucca river covering lots of area of the beach and the dunes that split the river from the ocean. I don't travel the land area of the state park much but I do see lots do people on horseback, hiking, or in Jeep's. We go there for the river and the bay. Our group of friends kayak and paddle board out there from time to time. We splash in at the boat launch. It's a parking lot maintained by the county with clean washrooms and a boat ramp. The fee is $4 cash. They don't have a pay machine like in some parks. But that's great as it keeps the cost down. We splash in and start paddling out toward the bay. This part is tidal so you need to keep an eye what the tides are doing and when. We like to catch the tail end of the outgoing tide before the slack to carry us out into the bay. Then we hit the beach on the north side of the bays conference. This part beach is really nice and not very busy most times we are out there. Sometimes there are crabbers waiting as they soak their pots. A few of us like to kayak the surf and we do this with the incoming tide. This allows us to make mistakes without being pulled out to sea. At low tide the breakers are way out there so we play in that secondary 2 to 3 foot surf. It's fun and if you dump it you are pushed into shore or up into the bay. Paddling back can be a windy experience with the incoming tide helping you along. That's if it has not been raining for the past week. On those days the river swells and is a constant outgoing current. Even then the bay has many shallow areas, especially the inside curves of the bends. Wildlife. Lots of wildlife here. I've seen eagles, great blue herons, outers, seals, crab, steelhead and much more. Pacific City is a nice little town as a gateway to costal outdoor adventures. They have a little bit of everything there. Food, lodging, shopping. It's not Portland, thank God. It's small, comfy, and friendly. But it can be crowded in the summer.

I've taken my nephews to this park several times and each time we spend hours here. There are two…read moreplaygrounds -- one for little kids and one for bigger kids -- with innovative climbing, rope and spinning features that keep them busy just trying to figure out how and then to actually do it. I've often found them getting instructions from an older girl who's mastered it. There's a bridge over a wetland garden and the landscaping in general is native and very nicely done. I've chased those boys all over the playground and there are plenty of places to hide or little ways to lose the one chasing you. There are benches and picnic tables which the adults usually sit at and strike up conversations with new friends. But the best feature of the playground is the large tube slide which starts at the top of hill in a pirate's ship. It twists and turns down and shoots you out the other end at which point the boys usually run laughing back up the hill for more. There are things to climb around on at the top as well, which offers a great view of Nye Beach. Located a block from the beach, walking distance from a bunch of great restaurants in historic district of Nye Beach, this is a great place to spend a few hours with kids.

I am a native of Phoenix Arizona and this style of playground is extremely rare if not non-existent…read moreand have always wanted to see a wooden playground for myself so I went to Oregon and went during our trip. It's very charming and adds a little edge with how barbaric some parts of the attraction are but it honestly was so fun and unique. I heard they're planning to demolish this style of playground (lots of blisters and spiders honestly, this place hasn't been well kept in a while and even has mold on a lot of the planks.) I will still be very sad to see it go. :/ I can see why this might not be such a major attraction to children for the lack of colors and honestly it looks a bit daunting and medieval but what's without a little fun with something unusual? I'm glad I got to experience it at least once before it goes and at least I made a memory with it now. Lovely view too of the lake and so pretty and quiet.

There is a nice playground for kids and in the ramada, some information about the ducks you can see on the lake. Some of the ducks were close to shore so we were able to see them up close. It was a nice spot to stop and with good information.
