I have moved to the US in 1999 and I have never found a salon that I like and was happy with the results, until I was lucky to get Kristen kids in my PreK class. After getting to know her - and liked her energy - I took a leap of faith and decided to go to her salon. Best decision I ever made!! I was visiting from Idaho for the holidays. I spontaneously googled a salon and made an appointment with Krystal. I was apprehensive as one never knows what to expect. She did a color and foil wrap, which turned out great! My hair looks natural with sun streaked highlights. The cut is cute and stylish. I moved up here 9 years ago and have gone to different salons but wasn't able to find someone who blows out hair the way I like until I started going to Carmen. It probably seems odd that my go-to hair salon (as someone living in NYC) would be Main Street Cutters, but I've had many a haircut in both yuppity Manhattan salons and "under the L in Bensonhurst cheap cuts" that have ended up disasterous. I don't trust anybody except for the ladies at MSC. I expecially don't trust myself. Contrary to popular belief, until April of 2012 I was a natural blonde. My hair has so many colors in it I truly thought it would be impossible to get highlights that had that natural look. With my wedding a few weeks out, I finally gave in and went to Kristen to color my hair before my big day (an "upstate" friend had raved about her work). I had no idea what the hell was going to happen but trusted her fully. The worst that could happen is I wear a wedding wig, right? I literally couldn't believe it when she was done. It was like she magically took my winter dull dark blonde hair and transformed it to look as though I had those highly coveted natural "August" highlights. Anybody who has spent a summer in NYC knows what I'm talking about. The colors stayed amazing and looked great once summer came and my natural highlights came through. Last week I bought a box of hair color because I figured I could just do it myself. "How hard could this be???" Learned my lesson. I now look like Streak-Master-Flex and will be going back to MSC (and swear to never use another bottle of at home hairdye) as soon as possible to fix this hot mess on my head. We scheduled a bridal party 2 weeks before the wedding and they were simply fantastic. The nail technicians did a great job (I would know because I have a license) and Chrissy, our hair stylist, was phenomenal. She came to the Thayer hotel and did a beautiful job on our updos, which stayed through the ceremony and ENTIRE reception. If I lived closer to West Point, this would definitely be my salon. Jennifer, the bridal services booker, was very helpful and sweet, especially since the bride was overseas and we had to arrange everything via an intermediary (aka moi) and/or email. read more

Best haircut I've ever gotten. The only bad thing... I live all the way in Brooklyn! Can we meet half way? Honestly though, it was definitely worth the drive. Main Street Cutters was recommended by a friend who lives around there and it went well beyond my expectations. I got a cut and color from Kristen, who took her time and explained why certain colors and cuts were or were not for my skin tone or for my small face. I think it needs to be said that I live in the Greenpoint/ Williamsburg area of Brooklyn which has nothing but the newest and trendiest of places popping up every other day. This includes 2 great hair salons within 2 blocks from me. Also, I work in the city, and have access to any of the top rated salons. Still, I choose Main Street Cutters over any of those. Everyone there was very sweet and the experience was a pleasure. The salon is very clean and the staff made me feel very comfortable as soon as I walked in. I have been a client of Melanie Antonelli's of Main Street Cutter's for over 20 years. The salon experience is nothing short of excellent! Where ever I go I am stopped by complete strangers about my hair, both women and men! if they are women, it always ends up in a lengthy discussion about who my hairdresser is. In fact I have actually made some good friends through these random stops! I carry a stack of cards in my pocketbook to hand out. People are always telling me I have great hair. My response is, "I have a great hairdresser". Melanie is the BEST! Recently I made an appoint with a new medical provider. When I arrived the woman commented on my hair. I was at that point long over due for both a cut and color. The woman could not believe it. She actually asked if she could touch my hair to get a better look at the highlights and low lights! What cracked me up it she was blown away by how good my hair felt and how it fell right back into place. For years I wore my hair short and have over the last two years grown it out. With that being said I never had a bad hair day! Never at any point of the grow out did I feel like my hair did not look good or looked like I was between cuts. That speaks VOLUMES for the quality of the cut!!! It being longer and still feeling so fabulous is a true testament to the quality of the product she uses! One of the things I love about Melanie is that even though she has been in the business for a long time, she always keeps up on the latest trends and techniques. I've been coming to Main Street Cutters since 2011. My stylist is Jen and I'm very happy with the services I get here. I usually do cut and color, but I have also done deep conditioning in the past. My hair is often difficult to take color and she makes sure it is done right and that I am completely happy before I walk out the door. when you click 5 stars on yelp, it says "woohoo! as good as it gets". couldn't have put it any better myself. main street cutters is fantastic. they know hair and the crazy women that grow it. after hearing me complain that the only woman i let cut my hair for years was moving back to hawaii, a good friend (with great hair) recommended this place. although it is a bit of a schlep for me, i would rather travel with a solid recommendation, that go blindly to some corner shop. anyhoo, everything about this place rocks. it's clean and comfortable. ZERO pretentiousness (which is always a huge turn off for me). kristen, who turns out to be the owner, was super sweet and patient with me as i described what i wanted and what i didn't want. she was extremely professional and gave me a cut that i'm still getting compliments on (it's been 2 weeks). i am not a big reviewer but this place made me want to take 5 minutes to tell the world (or at least yelp) how much i loooooove my hair. see you in a couple of months kristen! maybe next time we will jazz it up with some color....... read more
