Walking up to Main Street Barber Shop.
Travis C.

Looking for a professional barber and a great haircut with the old timey feel of yesteryear then Main Street Barber Shop is the place for you. I suggest you stop by during the day time, heck even lunch is a good time to stop by. As soon as you walk in, look to your left there will be a person to greet you (that is if they are not all cutting hair.) There is a sign in sheet that they direct you to sign. Sign up and take a seat or if your lucky they will take you right away. Some guys I notice have a particular barber they want to use. And they are willing to wait two or three people before their turn. Since this was my second time here in about three years I wasn't going to wait. Helene originally from Long Island NY was my barber. (Not sure if a women can be called a barber but I think they can.) She knew what she was doing. She asked how I wanted my hair cut, (two on the sides and scissors up top) and went about her business. She was cutting away very professionally. All the while we were having conversations about my job, her son and about Grapevine's Grapefest. When she almost done she brought a mirror up for me to inspect. I needed some extra trimming and she was happy to oblige. Once she completed she used shaving cream from my neck and sideburns. What was also nice was she trimmed my eyebrows, which was good because I had whole Professor Xavier thing going on and they needed to be maintained. The only con I have for the barber shop is that its cash only. In reality its not a big deal but they should have it posted on the outside. Extra bonus is that they have a pop corn machine (free popcorn), soda ($1 a bottle) and lots of magazines geared towards dudes. I plan on coming back to this barber shop for my next haircut.

In Dallas for the holidays and desperately needed a haircut since all the salons have been closed in LA. Kelli did a PHENOMENAL job, excellent attention to detail, and great super friendly conversation. To make it even better, she gave a recommendation for cajun food that I have been so dearly missing (The Cajun Market in colleyville) and after eating the crawfish etouffee from there last night (insanely delicious) I feel like I may need to move here. Thanks Kelli! Will definitely be back!

Finding Hannah reminds me of something that happened back in St. Olaf. We had one barber, Lars…read moreFlügelhoffer, and he was also the town's herring inspector. You always knew which job he'd come from by the smell of the cape. One day Lars up and quit, out of the blue, to follow his dream of competitive butter sculpting. The whole town was beside itself. Men wandered Main Street with hair down to their suspenders. My cousin Gunther tried cutting his own, and they had to cancel the Founder's Day photo. My friends tell me to get to the point, so: Southlake, 2026. My stylist had quit out of the blue, just like Lars, though as far as I know no butter was involved. The long-time stylist before that... well, back in St. Olaf we'd say the herring had left the barrel, and we'll leave it there. Lesson learned. So there I was, desperate, at a location I'd never visited, and I didn't know a soul. I booked online and picked a name at random from the list: Hannah. In St. Olaf, that's how we picked the mayor, and it only went badly twice. The receptionist greeted me like an old friend, and out came Hannah with a big smile. The haircut was perfect. The service was what really won me over, though: the jokes, the banter, the laughing back and forth. It felt like we'd known each other for years, and I'd only just sat down. The second visit was just as good. The cut was perfect again, and it was done so fast I was almost suspicious. Hannah noticed, and kindly offered to keep the clippers running and pretend to cut my hair, if that would make it feel longer. Zoom zoom, back and forth, buzzing away at the back of my neck and cutting absolutely nothing. I haven't laughed that hard since the Great Herring Juggling Incident of '52. Back in St. Olaf we'd call her a gerfloofenhaarschnipper, which loosely means "one who makes your head look good and your cheeks hurt from laughing." Book with Hannah. You won't regret it.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I absolutely would. I've been here a total of three times, and…read moreall three visits have resulted in some of the worst haircuts I've ever received. Every single time, I show the stylist exactly what I'm looking for and provide specific details about how I want my hair cut. Yet somehow, they never come remotely close to what I ask for. It genuinely feels like everything I say goes in one ear and out the other. I went in for another haircut today, and the experience was no different. While the stylist was struggling to style my hair the way I had requested, I jokingly said, "Yeah, my hair is hard to cut," trying to lighten the mood and give him the benefit of the doubt. Instead, he responded with, "No, I just suck at cutting hair." Are we serious right now? I genuinely didn't even know how to respond to that. I can appreciate someone being honest, but admitting that you aren't good at cutting hair while actively working on a paying customer's head is absolutely ridiculous. To make matters worse, not only do I leave with a haircut I'm completely unhappy with, but I also have to pay $50 for the experience. Apparently, having my hair messed up comes with a $50 price tag as an added bonus. Save yourself the money, time, and frustration. I genuinely recommend going literally anywhere else. After three disappointing experiences, I can confidently say I will not be returning.
