Just went in today with no appointment and got lucky. Ashley was my stylist and she is simply a great person. I asked for just a basic clean-up and she nailed it. This place is always being cleaned constantly which is awesome. The vibe is just a cool barber shop where everyone is chatting. I highly recommend Mel's for your barber needs. You won't be disappointed! read more

Wonderful haircut and experience every time! I've been in for multiple haircuts now and always leave happy and dapper. I don't feel rushed. The communication is great and the shop is so conveniently located. I just wish I had found them sooner. TIP: while most barbershops have a revolving door of stylists constantly rotating in and out, the folks at Mel's have mostly been there for years! That's super rare and says a lot about Mel and the way she treats her team. read more

I had a great experience with Sam. I was able to walk in and get a cut without a previous appointment. Barbershop was busy but accommodating. I thought that Sam did a great job on my haircut. She listened to what I wanted to look like and understood the fact that I wanted a lower Maintenance haircut as I usually only like to do one haircut a month. read more

This is a true men's barbershop that knows how to cut men's hair. They use a blade and steam towel, they do it right. Ashlie is fantastic. Appointments only so book ahead and know that most have a steady client base. They will take of you. read more

does my brothers hair i really like the environment and everyone is very nice and friendly

Mel's has become my go-to barbershop and one to which I will drive 20+ minutes to get to. They listen to your requests, the cuts are always on point, and the pricing is fair, especially considering you can book an appointment and not have to "wait your turn". Mel herself is my usual barber but on one occasion when she was out, Brittney took great care of me. Both of them are as nice as you could want, too. The shop is kept very clean, and you can pay with cash or card. There is nothing I can nitpick on. Shared parking lot in which you will never have a hard time getting a nearby spot. I love supporting small businesses, especially ones which are active in and support their community - which Mel does. read more

Great place and great service - highly recommend! I've always felt incredibly welcome and heard. The staff is friendly and helpful. Brittney is especially talented and personable. My husband has also had wonderful experiences! He had long, flowing hair and even though I was hesitant for him to get more than a trim one time he went in, I couldn't have been more pleased with how well it turned out! Bonus: accommodating for children of all ages!!! read more

Always a great cut. Mel's back in Texas. They have online scheduling which makes things pretty easy.

They do ok over here. I think now they might be doing the full shampoo but for a while mask required and no after cut shampoos. I have that short kind of hair that really needs a wash after so was tough but understand. Not counting anything off for that, just sharing informational stuff. They're very nice, but they seem super touchy if you say or make a mistake either in scheduling or showing up. I've seen them be pretty straightforward bordering on condescending, even when people make honest mistakes. Haircuts seem to be fine and reasonable price at $25. I also leave a $5 tip and sign out for $30 at checkout. It's a get the job done place. Conversation is sometimes funny in there as they have the normal group of hair stylists and some out of work issues like apartment managers, having kids, expecting kids. Everything good unless you mess up your appointment time some how....LOL.... I'm super simple. Hand cut the sides but not too short because my hair sticks up.... They do it some times better than others. read more

Great experience at Mel's last week. Hanna was very helpful figuring out the look my son was going for and delivered a quality fringe fade. I also love the appointment only and online booking system. We will be back! read more

Hanna is the ultimate hair designer. This is my son's second visit and it's 10 of 10 on both occasions. My son is 13 and he is a very stylistic age, and he loved it. She is really kind and did a much nicer haircut than he wanted. I really recommend it.!! Thank you Hanna! read more

This place was great, my husband got a $40 haircut for $25 and it looks amazing. Staff is friendly and place is well cleaned. His stylist was super sweet, efficient and catered to his needs. We will be back next month! read more

We love Sam!!!! My boyfriend needed a fresh cut last min and Sam did an amazing job! Makes everyone feel very comfortable and welcome. Great conversation, even better haircut! read more

Let me start off by saying I love my stylist at this place and I am sad to not return. That's where the good side ends. I have been going here for many years and on my last visit I was sharing some of the top new stories with my hairstylist, as I always do when I get my haircut. Then, two of the most vocal bleeding heart liberal women I have ever come across had the audacity to tell me to stop talking about a headline news story. One actually told us to stop talking, and that we weren't allowed to continue talking about the new story in this salon. Then after toning down the volume and content of the conversation, another one had to pipe in and reiterated that we needed to stop talking. Last I checked, there's freedom of speech in America. I've never been into a business where I am told as a customer what I can, and cannot talk about. Mind you there was no profanity, racial or inappropriate conversation. It was literally us discussing something that was on the newsfeed as I sat in the chair. Shame on these people. They should move to California or New York. I love how people like this are all about everyone having their freedom but clearly they don't practice what they preach. Below are pictures of these two fools who just caused the salon a customer and probably more than one because I noticed how shocked the other customers were when this happened. Don't go to this place. They're plenty of other places without this BS. read more

Nearly ten years of frequenting the same MN stylist, I relocated to Denton and searched for a new barber. Mel's was recommended by a Flower Mound local and I was lucky enough to get Hannah to cut my hair. I will return and hope Hannah cuts at Mel's for a long time. Everyone coming and going that day was well taken care of and we're certainly repeat clients. I wish everyone will have a 1st experience same as mine. Go to Mel's! I'm going back. read more

Excellent experience from the get go. Was able to contact and speak with the owner through the Yelp app, she was very responsive and helpful. We were able to book our appointment online the same day, and Trece did a fantastic job on a fade for both my husband and my son. Clean, friendly, and professional. Mel's will be our go to barbershop in the DFW metro. The stylists all appear to give the time and attention that your hair deserves, starting with listening to exactly what you're asking for, ensuring that they've heard you correctly, and then completing the haircut to your satisfaction. Very fine attention to detail, and excellent styling capabilities. read more

After doing the same thing with my hair for many years and trying many styles and barbershops. Switching barbers is always scary since you get comfortable with one barber for a long time and get worried how your hair will look after the dust settles. Going into this place I had my worries but man this place did a stellar job and I wish I went to them sooner. Karen did an amazing job and gave me the new look I was going after. Anyone looking for a barber should consider this place, they won't disappoint! read more

Karen @ Mel's Barber Shop is awesome! She's friendly & accommodating to my high school sons busy schedule! Thanks Karen!

Incredible service and the best haircut I've ever had! Totally feel pampered when I go.

Just stepped into Mel's without an appointment and now understand why you need one. They have a steady stream of repeat customers. That speaks volumes as to why they are consistently ranked as the top barbershop in Denton County. Lucky for me, Mel was able to set me up with Stuart with just a short wait as he completed another appointment. Once I was in the chair, Stuart took a look at my hair and identified how it had been previously cut. I showed him a photo to confirm and away he went. In no time at all, Stuart accomplished the style I was looking for. Try Mel's but make an appointment before you go! read more

I used to go to Mel's all the time until Covid set in. A year later, I called to ask whether the mask requirement was for during the actual haircut. Got a vey curt response; yeah we have gotten good at that but if thats a problem we invite you to find another shop where they don't do that...and a hang up! Mels used to be a great neighborly place to go, but that 10 second conversation tells me that culture is a thing of the past! read more

Visiting from out of town needed a last minute hair cut for my son. Called Mel's and was able to book an appointment with Stewart immediately. My son usually is afraid of haircuts however, Stewart made him feel very comfortable. He took his time and made sure to communicate with my son thorough out the whole process. He was very talkative and told my son many interesting stories. My son loved him! The hair cut was just what we asked for! Too bad we don't live close or Stewart would be our barber. read more

This is the cleanest shop with the nicest local owner. Super cool styles always! Great business!

Trece, and pretty much everyone here was so nice and full of energy! Today was my first time coming here to see what all the buzz was about. I had my hair taken care of by Trece and she did a marvelous job! I would definitely recommend anyone who's on the fence to try this place out. The only con is that people are constantly calling them for appointments, but that's only the place's fault for being so good ;) read more

This place was amazing, my wife and I moved here from Houston and I've struggled to find a great barber. Finally tried and my experience was very enjoyable. Update on my review from last time. I appreciate Mel for reaching out fixing the situation and also Eliza giving me an amazing haircut. There can be/will be mess ups in all businesses, if any sorts, but how you handle and fix them matters, in which they did great. Recommend Eliza as she does great work. read more

The owner Mel is fantastic! I didn't quite get the haircut I had originally gone in for, left, and then called and explained my situation. Mel immediately was able to work me in and fix my hair! She saved the day and overall very happy with my 2nd visit at Mel's. Also Hannah is VERY good she cut my hair the first time and turned out great unfortunately she wasn't working this day or else I would have booked with her. Overlay they handled the situation very professionally. read more

Outstanding service. My son and I have been clients since September 2008. Love Mel and her staff. Can't imagine going any place else.

I'm a long time customer. Mel's is an outstanding shop with highly skilled hair professionals. They have a customer centric mindset and insure customers are very satisfied with their work. They are also highly safety conscious during the perilous times of the pandemic. There are no worries in going there as their established protocols ensure complete safety. Masks are required. Hand sanitizer is supplied on the way in and out. Customers remain in their cars until their hair stylist is ready to serve them. Check them out. You will be pleased. read more
