You always knew which job he'd come from by the smell of the cape. One day Lars up and quit, out of the blue, to follow his dream of competitive butter sculpting. The whole town was beside itself. Men wandered Main Street with hair down to their suspenders. My cousin Gunther tried cutting his own, and they had to cancel the Founder's Day photo. My friends tell me to get to the point, so: Southlake, 2026. My stylist had quit out of the blue, just like Lars, though as far as I know no butter was involved. The long-time stylist before that... well, back in St. Olaf we'd say the herring had left the barrel, and we'll leave it there. Lesson learned. So there I was, desperate, at a location I'd never visited, and I didn't know a soul. I booked online and picked a name at random from the list: Hannah. In St. Olaf, that's how we picked the mayor, and it only went badly twice. The receptionist greeted me like an old friend, and out came Hannah with a big smile. The haircut was perfect. The service was what really won me over, though: the jokes, the banter, the laughing back and forth. It felt like we'd known each other for years, and I'd only just sat down. The second visit was just as good. The cut was perfect again, and it was done so fast I was almost suspicious. Hannah noticed, and kindly offered to keep the clippers running and pretend to cut my hair, if that would make it feel longer. Zoom zoom, back and forth, buzzing away at the back of my neck and cutting absolutely nothing. I haven't laughed that hard since the Great Herring Juggling Incident of '52. Back in St. Olaf we'd call her a gerfloofenhaarschnipper, which loosely means "one who makes your head look good and your cheeks hurt from laughing." Book with Hannah. You won't regret it.

Every single time, I show the stylist exactly what I'm looking for and provide specific details about how I want my hair cut. Yet somehow, they never come remotely close to what I ask for. It genuinely feels like everything I say goes in one ear and out the other. I went in for another haircut today, and the experience was no different. While the stylist was struggling to style my hair the way I had requested, I jokingly said, "Yeah, my hair is hard to cut," trying to lighten the mood and give him the benefit of the doubt. Instead, he responded with, "No, I just suck at cutting hair." Are we serious right now? I genuinely didn't even know how to respond to that. I can appreciate someone being honest, but admitting that you aren't good at cutting hair while actively working on a paying customer's head is absolutely ridiculous. To make matters worse, not only do I leave with a haircut I'm completely unhappy with, but I also have to pay $50 for the experience. Apparently, having my hair messed up comes with a $50 price tag as an added bonus. Save yourself the money, time, and frustration. I genuinely recommend going literally anywhere else. After three disappointing experiences, I can confidently say I will not be returning.

Each time I visit I feel like a member of the family! I used to go to an old school barber when I was young with my dad that included sports, beer fridge and other things like a straight razor clean up and this reminds me of that experience every time. I explained that the biggest…read morestruggle is that when it just dries it just gets poofy and he needs someone to show him exactly what to do with it and I explained that I've spent so much money on different products and she said that she would cut it and show him how to fix it. So she brings him out with wet hair and I get the impression that she's telling me that she's done. I tell her I can't offer an opinion of what it looks like because it's wet. The woman at the front desk assured me that they don't send people home with wet hair that she was just trying to see what I thought of the cut in case she needed to do anything else. Anyhow he goes back there to have his hair blow dried so we can see what it actually looks like and then she brings him out to me with wet hair and tells me that she finished. When his hair dries I'll be able to tell if it's a decent cut or not and see what it looks like but it's 100% not even close to what we showed in the photo of what he was wanting and it's 100% not the service that we asked for The other men that were there all seem to be very happy at the bar and hanging out and visiting with each other so I think that works out well for them. And I didn't noticr anybody else being sent out with wet hair

I usually take my son and we both get excellent haircuts for $10 bucks less than similar places. And they will always throw in a small design for my son if he wants one for no extra cost. No appointments so it can get busy but they have sports on TVs or just bring a book or a podcast. It's a true mens barbershop so not a bad place at all to hangout for a few mins if there's a wait.

Came for the haircut, stayed for the floorshow…read more I feel like the hometown barbershop is a dying breed. Too often as men, we are relegated to the SportClips and the Great Cuts hair options. Ya, you can TELL those places what you want, but you're gonna get the same cut the guy before you got. NOT at MSBS. The stylists LISTEN to their clients, and they offer great advice. I wanted a certain cut once, and two or three persuaded me to go different. Said the cut wouldn't look good for me. Glad they did, because my wife completely agreed! If you have a bad experience here, more than likely, its YOUR fault. Or for that matter, maybe don't bring your squirmy rugrat to get a cut and expect to just check out while its happening? I will KEEP going here every two weeks, I ALWAYS walk out feeling better physically and sometimes the banter and conversation is top notch. If you want the same ol' same ol' production line haircut, go to a "sports barbershop" whatever that is. If you want quality and care, Main Street Barbershop is your only choice.
