0 stars. Hired Main Stream Electric (Shane Halstead) in 2017. Per their own invoice, the job was: "trying to get up to code, inspector is concerned about knob and tube." Only the panel replacement on that invoice was actually permitted. Nine years later, I hired a second, licensed contractor to remove knob and tube wiring that should have already been removed. Instead, we discovered Main Stream had knocked out the ceramic insulators to make it look like the knob and tube had been removed, while leaving the ungrounded wire in place behind it. They created false grounds by connecting to water pipes instead of properly grounding the circuits, so outlets tested as grounded when they weren't. Without real grounding, breakers weren't tripping the way they're supposed to, meaning wires were getting hot, a genuine fire hazard. They also created open splices, then charged me for installing junction boxes over those same open splices, covering up a hazard instead of fixing it. None of this work was permitted, so none of it was ever inspected by the city. When I later requested the original contract for this job, I was told records that old were no longer available in their system, despite the owner referencing having reviewed documentation from that same system days earlier. Just to rewire the outlets they'd falsely grounded, the second contractor charged $9,985, confirmed in writing as needed because the outlets were "not truly grounded with a code compliant wiring method" despite a grounded reading on a tester. Actually removing the remaining knob and tube wiring, the exact job I'd already paid Main Stream to do back in 2017, cost another $8,004. That's nearly $18,000 just to finish and correct the work I'd already paid for once, not counting anything else. The city's final inspection later confirmed it was all done correctly. By the time I discovered any of this, the statute of limitations had run on both my CSLB complaint and my bond claim, so there was no recourse there either. Horrible experience. It's shocking to me how overwhelmingly positive their other reviews are. Beware, and don't assume work is done correctly or permitted just because you're told it is. read more

Tried to go to their building in Sacramento at 915 L Street, Ste C215, Sacramento Ca 95814 as indicated on their website and Google to speak with them in person. Upon arriving at the building, I was informed by a man in a suite in the Lobby of the building that there is no Ste C215 as well as Main Stream Electric is not physically located in the building, C215 used to be a mail box inside of a UPS Store. It was very frustrating wasting my time driving into Downtown Sacramento, finding parking, paying for parking only to learn I wasted my time for wanting face to face conversation to discuss some possible work to be done. read more

The Romex (line that connects my appliance to the junction box) was undersized. It was cited by the home inspector. Also, the I could never use the light after Rick came out and worked on it. Not good. read more

Blown away at the service from Gabriel at Main Stream Electric. My Light fixture in the garage was not working. Previous electrician suggested I replace the entire fixture so I got a second opinion. Operators at Main Stream are professional and polite. Main Stream called me to let me know they were on the way. Gabriel arrived promptly at the appointed time. He took a look and informed me that was unnecessary, a little rewiring, and with LED bulbs, it's working. He explained everything in detail, was professional, courteous, friendly, and quick. Service was done in 20 minutes. This is an honest company that hires quality people. I will go with them again and highly recommend. read more

Rick and the team at Mainstream Electric were great to work with. Always on time, friendly and great communication. We were very impressed by the attention to detail on our panel upgrade. I highly recommend Main Stream Electric! I called them in a panic after a home inspector found a previous electric company did not have the work they performed on my home permitted. My house was in escrow and I didn't think electrical issues would be a problem. Karina was able to get me an appointment within in 24 hours. Rick and Jesus were amazing and flexible in correcting the numerous issues at my home. I was able to get the previous work permitted, thanks to Rick and Jesus, and my home sold without any delays. I had a really great experience with MSE and this is the only company I'll be calling if I have any electrical issues or want upgrades in the future. read more

We subscribe to a home maintenance service for electrical. We have been fortunate that they always seem to reach out to Main Stream for their services. The last couple of times we were in need of service for electrical issues, Matt has been our technician. Not only did Main Stream immediately called me and informed me that they would be sending out a technician with a date and time, which has always been within 20 minutes from my initial call. Now that is service! We have also been extremely happy with Matt the technician. He has always called and advised me that he was on the road to the house and the approximate time of his arrival. In that call he asked details of the issue we were having and other pertinent questions so that he knew before he arrive exactly what he needed to do to fix our problem. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable in his field he is courteous and patient. This house is my parents home. My mother is 88 and my father is 93 and they live alone. I don't live in town, but I am the one who my parents call when they need anything; so I call and set up these type of services for them when needed. The first time Matt came out my father expressed to me he really liked him and felt very comfortable with him. He also requested that when I called for service a few days ago to specifically ask for Matt . Once again Main Stream immediately called me and set the appointment up as well as made sure to have Matt perform this call. We have been very happy working with both Main Stream and Matt. I nor my father have no problem referring Main Stream to anyone for their electrical needs. D Lopez read more

I went through Home Depot Pro Referrals, and Main Stream contacted me within days. Rick came out to inspect the job and gave me an accurate estimate to help with my decision. Rick and Ray came out for the job, and you might say I was "shocked" at how professional, friendly, and "grounded" they were in their craft. I enjoyed having them come install my dryer outlet! read more

Main Stream Electric - Dryer outlet job was very clean and thorough! - Electricians Near Me

Asked Main Stream Electric for an estimate to install an electrical outlet in my garage adjacent to a junction box housing the lines to a driveway light fixture. They showed up on time and were very cordial however it became clear they did not want this project. Their first estimate just for a new outlet was around $460. They tried to justify the cost by saying the parts were very expensive. After some discussion they reconfigured their estimate and this time included "all the discounts". The new bid was $440. When I made the appointment I was told they would have a 2-hour window so they could do the work if we agreed to proceed, however during our discussion on site they told me they could not do the work today anyway. I paid their $60 visit fee and they promised to send me a receipt. Never received a receipt. Apparently my project just wasn't big enough. A Main Stream management representative called me to followup on my review, refusing to cash my $60 check. He felt the service was no up to their standards. Quite an exceptional followup and a reflection of a company concerned about their performance. As a result I raised my rating. read more

Lost power on the ground floor but the breaker was not tripped. Called Main Stream Electric and spoke with Shane. He talked me through a few possibilities that may have occurred. He hit on one I hadn't tired and got the power restored immediately. I highly recommend Main Stream! read more

I cannot say enough about how wonderful Mainstream was! From my first call, through estimate, service, and cleanup, every person I worked with was polite, professional, and efficient. I had them repair an outdoor outlet and install a new electric car charger outlet and they were fairly priced and did an immaculate job. Issues with my crawl space prevented them from installing it the original way but they clearly explained the issue and were able to find a solution at the same cost in the same time frame. I will absolutely use them in the future! read more

I was having problems with the AC and electricity in two of the rooms. I called two minutes to five, and I didn't think anyone would answer. To my surprise Corrisa (sorry if not spelled correctly) answered. She was very pleasant and knowledgeable. This was after closing so most of the employees had either gone home or were at other sites still working. Corrigan stated that Shain (the owner) would be coming to check out the problem himself. I was truly starting to believe that good electricians/contractors were impossible to find. Shain was perfectional as well as knowledgeable. I thought I needed to replace the entire breaker box but he explained that I didn't need this replaced. He gave me some pointers on what can be done so that I won't continue to have these outages. I am so pleased that he was honest and didn't charge me for un-needed services...he didn't charge me at all. You (your company) will be the only number I call when I need an electrician. I would definitely recommend Shane and his company. (This review will not allow me to make any corrections unless I do the entire thing over. Professional is how it should read...and Corrisa again I apologize for miss-spelling your name. :) read more

We asked Main Stream to give us a quote to finish and correct what someone else had started as we were updating the electrical system in the house. In less than a week, they began working and completed everything in about two days. Slavic, Ray and Cameron did and excellent job to ensure we passed inspection. They were polite, kind, hard workers and completed everything we asked them to do quickly. They arrived when they said they would and we couldn't be happier now that everything is done. Thanks. Would definitely recommend. read more

Electrician who came home for inspection to provide quote wasn't professional. I found that they don't respect customer time. I took half day off to be at home so that I can help him in the process. After couple of days I didn't get any quote or call. I need to send multiple emails to get their attention for quote. I got call stating that need to come again to review as person either don't remember by now or not confident enough to provide quote. I was disappointed hearing this. They don't seems value other time. I didn't go with them. Thanks read more

Main Stream Electric has now completed 2 jobs at my home and I could not be happier. Rick and another worker completed the 1st job on a spa hook up a few months ago. We liked them so much that we called them back when we needed additional electrical work done. Rick and Ray just completed the 2nd job on indoor lighting. They are professional, on time, communicate well, and clean. Best of all, they do a great job. We would recommend for any electrical work you may need completed at your home. read more

These guys were great. It was the Friday before Labor Day and no electrician was available. After many calls, I had one that wanted to charge me $2200 to get my commercial building checked out after a SMUD outage which seemed outrageous to me. However, then I stumbled on Mainstream. The owner personally walked me through the procedure, over the phone, and didn't charge me anything. What a life saver for my business. We had Main Stream Electric come out to give us a bid for several ceiling fan installs. They came recommended by a friend of ours and we were very pleased. The bid was reasonable and the two guys who came to install them were great. Overall very professional, accommodating & they even cleaned up after the job was done like they hadn't been there! From the first moment when I called Katie I knew I was in good hands. She listened to my request (three complex ceiling fixture installations in a 90 year old home), then scheduled a visit for detailed estimates and repairs. Excellent customer service and very pleasant. The very next day Shane and Tim arrived as scheduled. Assessed the situation, proposed an approach and gave me a very reasonable estimate. I accepted the estimate and asked them when we could schedule the work. The said we will do the work Right Now!! Unheard of in my contractor experience. They did the work superbly and efficiently, dealt with all the surprises an older home can provide, took a look at a ceiling fan installation I plan to have them do, cleaned the work area, and I signed my approval. Super well done, super easy, super nice people throughout! I will be working with them again and would recommend them to those looking for excellent electrical service. read more

Dave Glover is a Master Electrician, one of only 3 in Northern CA. Although we lived in Davis, CA, Dave drove to our home and correctly diagnosed the problem we had with our circuit breaker panel The Zinsco electric panel was intermittently burning, which posed an extremely high risk for igniting a house fire. He and his apprentice sons installed a new electric panel on Memorial Day, restored our electricity and helped us through everything, include insurance coverage and California codes. My wife found Dave on Yelp! and we are blessed that this gentleman came to rescue us over the Memorial Day weekend. Our safety and satisfaction with his work was his priority. He worked for us, not the insurance company or any other agency. We have nothing but the very highest regard and appreciation for his professionalism, honesty and integrity. He explains everything. We will be warning everyone in our neighborhood about the dangers of Zinsco electric panels that were installed in homes built back in the 1970s and early 1980s. We recommend Dave visit at no cost to inspect the integrity of any older model circuit breaker panel. Dave is a Master Electrician and he is very simply wonderful! read more
