The community expressed a desire to preserve and promote the history of the area. That aspiration brought together people seeking a way to display and protect the artifacts, documents, photos and memories of Lovells. Lone Pine School House Rudolph Pallone's 1991 gift to the Society of the one room log Lone Pine Schoolhouse, constructed in 1906 by James Kellogg and Gustav Ernst. The historic building was moved to the township property and renovations began in the summer of 1991. The School House documents and exhibits the history of Lovells Township. There are exhibits showing classrooms, ladies clothing, woodworking, and all sorts of odds and ends. I found an ancestor in one of the class pictures lining the walls upstairs. I bought a book on the Centennial celebration of Frederic, and was thrilled to see pictures of my relatives in it. My grandmother was born in 1901 in Maple Forest Twnshp. My Grandfather was born in 1898 near Pere Cheney. His parents lost three children to the diptheria epidemic there before the town was abandoned. All in all it was a great trip to the past walking through this museum. I loved it.

The Michigan Firemen's Memorial site, located near Roscommon, Michigan, gives testament and honor…read moreto those past who have served their communities through the fire service. Set in a quiet, forest setting, the statue and onyx walls honor our firefighters. Names of those fallen in the line of duty are inscribed on the base below the statue and many of our past firefighters from throughout Michigan, have their names inscribed on the walls around it. The statue depicts a firefighter carrying a small child in one arm and a lantern in his other hand. The third Saturday of September each year there is a memorial service held by the statue. The statue is maintained by the Michigan Firefighters Association. The statue was erected in 1984. In addition, the Michigan Firemen's Memorial Festival Committee sponsors a festival at the Roscommon Fire Training grounds, Thursday through Sunday the third weekend of September. This is a family event with rides for children, displays, vendors, and fire related competitions. Saturday following the Memorial service there is a parade of fire apparatus, etc and a chicken dinner at the grounds.
