Had the best time with a buddy last time the swells were on the rise. Big thx to the Brzezowski's up in Wahiawa for the company to the beach park.

Maili Beach Park is a long stretch of beach along Farrington Highway. It actually starts opposite of Kakalena Street and ends on the opposite of St Johns Road. During the weekdays the beach is normally quiet with some people there for morning exercise at the outside gym or afternoon swims. The weekends are the busiest times because of the many event celebrations that are being held. Just this past Saturday on April 14, 2018 there were couple spots reserved for weddings, one spot reserved for a celebration of life, and several other spots reserved for birthday celebrations. I even heard some live music being performed at the beach while I was there on Saturday. The one restroom facility that I did visit while I was at Maili Beach Park on Saturday... I took notice that the toilet bowl was metal and there were no seat covers (best to squat if you got to go), there was toilet paper provided (just bring extra toilet paper in case the restroom stalls run out), and no paper towels for after washing hands. Maili Beach Park is a place where people go to relax and enjoy with family plus friends. Children playing in the sand or in the bounce house. Sometimes there will be a volleyball net set up for the family to play a game of volleyball. During football season there will be a team of young athletes practicing on the grassy area of the park. Take a journey down to the west side of Oahu, spend the day relaxing under the sun, and most of all enjoy the beautiful sunset. Don't forget to be aware of your surroundings and keep the beach park clean. 5/100

Nice beach park to have a picnic with family, parties or even take your dog for a walk. The beach is located right there as well. Very clean and safe for children to swim. Lots of parking located in the front of the beach park.

Beach is not too crowded. There is a bathroom and shower available. Lots of open grassy area! Waves were small kine rough, definitely not a beach to take your kiddies. :P Sand was so nice. Shells and sand were so smooth.

Absolutely beautiful place to watch the sunset. And just a handful of folks there too. We brought our beach chairs and sat and enjoyed the tranquility of the beach. Snapped many pics before sunset with a couple of palm trees. Postcard worth pictures. What a find!

Town side beaches are normally overpopulated with tourist. Yes it's a far drive for most people to go to Maili Beach Park. But the drive is totally worth it. What I love about this beach is the amount of parking available, it's rarely crowded so you'll enjoy a sense of tranquility here and there's a charcoal disposal pit for those BBQing. My fiance and I love coming out to this side. We normally bring our grill so we can throw some steaks on the grill and just enjoy the quietness and listen to the waves crashing. The beauty of the mountains and sea from this side of the island is just breathtaking. The waves may be a little rough sometimes and there's a huge drop between the shallow and ocean deep level, so just be careful when playing in the water :) There's also one side of the beach that caters to those looking for good waves to catch.

Beautiful long, wide, white sandy beach of Hawaii! 100% nature made sand.

I think the City and County of Honolulu is right on it. Went back for a visit a few weeks later to take some pictures and the beach and park were immaculately clean. Mr. Roarke will be happy. For tourist and locals visiting the beach for the first time. Talk to the lifeguard before entering the water. Leeward beaches and the blue ocean are very inviting but can be dangerous. Ask for advise and be honest about your swimming capabilities; otherwise that lifeguard may be cursing you as he administers mouth to mouth recuscitation on you....especially if you are a fat and ugly guy!!!!

Another beautiful beach on Oahu! This is a popular location for camping. We went there Labor Day weekend and there were lots of tents set up, lots of people camping out. The water is calm enough to swim in; careful where you step though, there are sea urchin around the rocks. The kids love looking for sand crabs on the beach, and lots of divers go out spear fishing. In the morning you can catch some great views, but nothing beats the view of the sunset hitting the horizon.

Outdoor fitness area in Maili. Close to St. Johns Rd.

The beach is a nice spot with alot of different characteristics to enjoy. There is the two popular surf/body board spots of "Tumble land" and "Green Lanterns", the designated camping area and large grass area towards the Honolulu side of the park, where large parties and carnival are held. The city, just recently added a new outdoor workout area on this side. There are four bathroom spaced out across the span of the park and now four parking lots. Three are paved and the last one is a dirt/sand lot. There's showers at each restroom with a small bench area to change. The beaches have a variety of swimming conditions. The Honolulu side of the park has more of a reef and drop off good for surfing and diving. Towards the center (camp grounds) the beach is a mixture of reef with little pockets of sand to swim with your family whether camping or just cruising. And the Waianae side is a beautiful white sand beach till the rock jetty separating the beach and the canal. The sunset are truly a blessed sight to see. The city and county of Honolulu has done great constantly keeping the park clean. But sad to see today just days after the storm, homeless back living on the beach and bringing their drama in the public. Just be aware of your surroundings and respect people and mostly they'll leave you alone. Only wish the city make plans to add a jog path that goes the length of the park, similar to Alamoana beach park and/or path that connects a few of the other beaches along the Waianae coast. Or even a fitness equipment like those added to Kapiolani park or Diamond head. The more to help the community out here will hopefully help people's lives and minds become more positive to each other and visitor who come past Ko Olina.

    Those views!

The park has restrooms (although, they need some attention) and a small playground. My granddaughter spent a good hour playing on the playground. The highlight of the park for me is the presence of Ku'ilioloa Heiau historical Hawaiian ruins, which are protected within the park. Let's get a few facts and opinions out of the way from the start:…read more- There are better hikes on this island, much better (Olomana Ridge comes to mind) - The start of this hike is arid, ugly, and brutally hot with little shade - There are lots of buildings (and a road, that you ain't allowed to drive on) on the summit Now that you know all these things, this is the highest point on Oahu and a worthy objective! If you're a peakbagger-type, this high point is an absolute must and is very easy compared to the high points of Kauai, Maui, and Moloka'i. If you can stay cool, this is a pretty easy hike, in my opinion. The route-finding is very straight-forward and there's only a little bit of scrambling. About staying cool: I would bring a few gallons of water. Drink as much as you can while you're still at your car, then soak your shirt and a headband in it. This'll help for the mostly treeless first part and it'll be long-dry by the time you reach the cooler, moist upper parts of the mountain. Another options is to start hiking up before sunrise but, if you're on vacation, you're probably not to interested in that. Yes, the summit is covered in military buildings but the views are still fantastic. I highly recommend doing a 360-degree walk around the perimeter fence. Another advantage of this hike is that it's not insanely popular. It's possible you might only see one or two other parties on the whole mountain.

The whole trip can take about 6-7hrs, up and back. Item I highly recommend you bring with you: -Electrolyte WATER (***I took a whole gallon with me***) -Small snacks ( Nuts, fruit bars, protein/granola bars, musubi, manapua, etc) -Sunscreen (7 hrs in the sun will get you. My face was sunburnt after.) -Hiking spikes (It was slippery even though it wasn't raining.) -Gloves ( You'll be climbing lots of rope!! Your hands will get raw.) -Hiking Bag/Backpack -Wear long sleeves and leggings (The water wicking type to stay cool and protected from the sun and bugs.) -Hat -Sunglasses -Selfie stick -Satellite radio ( I had one just in case but we all had cellular connection the whole trip. ) -Cellphone & rechargeable battery -Bug spray -Good Attitude ( This hike was hard but it wasn't impossible.) I came here with a group of hikers, now my new found friends, and we all pitched in on a giant UHAUL 16-seater van so that we wouldn't have to take our personal vehicles. We did this because the parking lot for this hike is well known for break-ins, so we made sure that nothing was left in the van when we began our hike. From the start, it's all incline and it kept getting more and more steep the further you went in. Majority of the trail is covered by trees and brush so there was plenty of shade. The closer you got to the top, the better the view got and it was pretty fulfilling to feel so high up. Once you reach the Mt. Ka'ala sign and the forest conservation, you get to experience the Hawaiian rain forest where you're required to stay on the wood/metal path laid out to minimize human damage to the environment. You'll know you've reached the top when you see a fenced in building owned by the government. There's a path along the fence line that'll bring you to the final view. Once there, you'll finally be able to take break, sit down, breathe in the cold air and enjoy the amazing view from the clouds as they pass you by. Goodluck, stay safe and happy hiking!

Just set your GPS to Puʻu O Hulu (Pink Pillbox) Trailhead, and you'll find plenty of street parking along that stretch. Still, I'd recommend parking closer to the entrance for safety because we noticed broken glass scattered on the ground further down the road, probably from past break-ins. We actually parked once, saw the glass right by our car, and quickly moved closer to the entrance instead. Right after we parked, it started raining. The forecast said it would last about 30 minutes, so we just waited it out in the car before starting our hike. The trailhead is right between a yellow "Falling Rocks" warning sign and a white "Speed Limit 25" sign on a utility pole. The hike starts with a steep incline, but overall it's not too hard and just a bit narrow at parts. There are three pillboxes total. It took us around 30 minutes to reach the first one at a relaxed pace, stopping for photos along the way. The first pillbox is painted in blue graffiti inside, and from there you can continue up to the famous pink one. When we got to the pink pillbox, there were surprisingly tons of flies swarming around the entrance for some reason, so we didn't stay too close. The wind was really strong up there -- strong enough that I had trouble keeping my balance! It looked like reaching the third pillbox would require climbing over quite a few rocks, so we decided to turn back instead. On the drive back, we passed Ulehawa Beach Park, where we saw a whole row of homeless encampments right by the ocean -- literally parked and camped along the beachfront. We even saw a few people running across the road and one guy riding his motorcycle the wrong way, yelling at drivers passing by. If that's a regular thing, really sad to see this.
