I encountered issues with Northside Remodeling during a basement renovation. I learned they had…read morehandled the permit application for our renovation without our knowledge or approval. They named themselves as the contractor on our permit without us contracting with them. After reaching out to the county for a copy of the application, I discovered that details were added to our form after my signature, without any notification to me. Not only was I surprised to see Northside Remodeling and Willie Middleton's name on the permit & application, I was extremely surprised to find my signature on a document I didn't fill out. This unexpected change left me feeling very uneasy, questioning the level of honesty with this business. The basement project itself was rife with issues - rough-in plumbing done incorrectly, window egress not installed to code, framing not complete or installed correctly. In Georgia, the licensed contractor on the permit is accountable and responsible for the work to be done to code. We have since had to hire a new contractor and pay additional money to fix these errors. It wasn't the smooth experience I hoped for, and I personally would want to find a company that emphasizes clear and upfront communication.

They gave me references to check. My project was done in a timely manner (within 5 months), on (my) budget. The price included the best insulation, and a new heat/air unit. Adam suggested a beautiful white washed pine for the vaulted ceiling. The windows were top quality. My work with the Lifecycle Building Center led me to insist that we reuse and recycle whenever possible. The project manager worked with me: reused some of my deck wood; installed the most gorgeous pair of 8' French doors that came from a Buckhead home; sub-flooring came from deconstructed production studio set. Adam transformed the chimney wall for my indoor fireplace from an annoying intrusion into the focal point: we covered it with (recycled) pallet wood! His crews were responsive, on time, great with clean up and great with collaborating when we hit decision-points on the job. The craftsmanship is top notch. My room is magnificent. What I learned is that I wisely gave up on a previous contractor who had priced this same room with cost cutting features for 40% more. I didn't have to scale down my expectations. Yes, price is determined by design, quality of materials, and craftsmanship-- AND-- how contractors choose to run their business. Castlehaven delivered!
