I'm from here, so this review has been years in the making. Overall, I'd call it mid at best. There are a couple of really nice bartenders, but the outside bar often feels kind of disorganized, almost child-like in how it's run. Over the years, the food quality has definitely gone down. It's not bad, it's just average. Service is very hit or miss depending on who you get. I'm giving three stars because I do still like the place, and some of the food servers are solid. Accommodations were great although that was all. Wasn't really that busy to start with although did fill up by time we left. Arrived at 5:00, left at 8:00. Disappointed in the service and food. 30 minutes between drinks, after the first order that took so long, ordered a beer when one was just delivered and still took 30 minutes for it to come. Ordered chips and queso. The dip came cold and had to be sent back to reheat. Ordered the shrimp platter, which was advertised as 12 large shrimp that came as 12 small shrimp. I ended up getting up and looking for the server and ended up speaking with the bar manager. My suggestion hire more bartenders if they're running 30 minutes behind, hire more servers if they can't get the orders delivered on time while Hot. It took us a minute to find, but we found it! It is located inside of Crescent City Grill. Our server and bartender was Dominick. He was amazing. We got the Old Fashioned and Honey got the Trim Tap brew. We also ordered the Friend Green Tomatos and by luck, some Wontons! Great Decor for Christmas and we really loved it. Bar was great place to grab a drink and perfect for us to stop at on a long trip to Birmingham. This place has gone downhill. It was very dirty. I came in at lunch to grab a beer and a bite. I sat for 10 minutes with no one speaking to me, the dirty glasses and sticky bar in front of me. I started noticing the filth behind the bar that needed to be cleaned. Finally a server walked by and handed me a menu. That was mold growing all inside of the menu. I left. Stopped here after a long day of work while traveling. The bartenders and wait staff were very inviting, even offered me a few samples of local beers that were good! The service was great!! How ever I ordered the nachos off of the happy hour menu ( I added chicken) and I was disappointed, I was expecting typical nachos with everything on top but I got a bowl of cheese that tasted like velveeta with green onions and sour cream in it. I am a sucker for a nice courtyard. I have been frequenting Mahogany Bar for about 15 years. Its my go to spot when i'm in the Burg. The inside is narrow and cozy but I always find a spot in the courtyard to sit and relax. The drinks are decently priced. The only reason I knocked off a star is for their customer service. My last visit was so atrocious that I couldn't make it 5 stars. Besides my last visit, I dont remember the service being so poor so dont let that keep you away. Its a bonus that the food is pretty decent too. read more

Went to have drinks here after a late dinner. Service was nice and fairly attentive. They have a pretty late happy hour which we were pleasantly surprised about once we'd received our check. The waiter hadn't mentioned what time the happy hour started -which is why I gave 4 stars instead of five. I had two tequila sunrises. A single during regular hours and a double during happy hours. Terrible place to go, turnover rate is high and they kick our regulars for asking questions about children being in the bar area. if you want a nice atmosphere without kids running around and kicking out and 18 year old that just had a cherry coke but enjoy watching a lady breastfeed while her other children run wild. Always end up here and never disappointed. For the beer lover they have a great draught selection that includes several that are local. Awesome happy hour specials plus daily specials. Don't think just because it has 3, yes 3, nice restaurants attached that the drinks will be overpriced because that isn't the case. Go ahead and order anything off the menu because it all is great. I was recommended to come here by a local while I was in town for work. I could not be happier that I did. Mahogany is the bar area and Crescent is the restaurant, however you can order from the Crescent menu in Mahogany. The vibe is pretty neat... dimly lit with a few TVs. They offered several seasonal local and micro beers. They also have handmade cocktails. The happy hour here is amazing, $3 beer and $5 cocktails. For dinner I had the steak/ shrimp and grits, which was great. It was full of steak and shrimp! There were several other items on the menu that had me intrigued, but I will save them for next time. Very unsatisfied, experience** We came in at around 12:30am on a Saturday, not very busy. We ordered a couple appetizers and drinks. We ordered a water vodka and felt that it wasn't the right ratio so we mentioned to the waiter about how we felt. So she simply walked to the bartender and complained to him about the situation and he then yelled across the bar and told us if we wanted more vodka then we should get a double shot of vodka. It would have been fine if they simply just came to us and told us personally not across the bar. We did not have a problem with the situation but after the way it was handled it became a problem. We decided to get our food to go and as we were leaving they told us "have a goodnight' to be very unprofessional and passively aggressive. I've never had desrespectful service like this. I flew in from Colorado this weekend and one of my stops HAD to be the Hog for an old fashion! I absolutely love this place and used to frequent the Hog when I lived in Mississippi. We walked in and sat on the patio. Then, 20 minutes later, we were still waiting to be greeted. One of my friends walked in to ask if the patio was closing, because we were not sure. Brett (bartender) immediately took care of us and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy! He has always been so friendly and polite when we visit. The Mahogany Bar is in the same building (and set between) two of the best restaurants in Hattiesburg - The Crescent City Grill (casual and family-oriented) and the Purple Parrot Cafe (a little more intimate). I think they all share the same kitchen, but the chefs are different. It's got a great bar menu and a full selection of wine and bar. There is seating inside, but it's really nice to sit outside. It's right on a very busy street and not at all the place where I'd normally consider sitting outside. But there's a very tall privacy hedge which dampens the noise and provides a more intimate setting. There are several fans mounted from the overhead - which really help in this climate. read more

They typically have a lively happy hour that seems to draw an older crowd and then they get a bit of a younger crowd at night. While sipping my chai on the patio @ starbucks I spotted Mahogany Bar and thought that it looked safe -- as it was the only bar in Hattiesburg that was spelled corectly and had permanent signage on the bulding.
