This place is amazing! The passion fruit mojito here is one of the best I've had, and if you are feeling brave try the "Murciélago" it's really good (and heavy on the alcohol). The 4 star review is based solely on their delicious mojitos! Husband knows his way around mojitos and he loved the vodka mojito here at Mahi Mahi! Sadly, the drink was so strong it practically kicked him in his head. Four sips in and he couldn't continue. Call him an amateur or chalk it up to a day sightseeing in sun. Those four sips made a lasting impression. I tackled the dragon fruit mojito which was very delicious and I managed to consume a good amount before I too felt the kick! Let me edit to add, I drank half my drink. It wasn't just a kick in the head but a sway in the legs. I managed to eat dinner but when I got up to leave my legs were jelly. The mojito was potent! Excellent! I slept like a baby almost immediately! Appetizers were good. We shared some pulpo salad, pulpo was a bit tough and dare I say, slimy. Also shared was the Mahi Mahi ceviche. I liked it but it had a lot of red/yellow peppers which over powered the sweet delicate Mahi. Entree for me was some boneless fried chicken pieces, served with mofungo and a bowl of broth. I got the mahi mahi mofungo which was very good, my wife got the mahi mahi soup also very good, my son got the tuna also very good, although soy sauce would have been better than the plum sauce. The price is very reasonable and staff were very friendly. It felt like home cooking in a family operation. The not so good : Most of the seating is outside and in June means hot humid and buggy. We opted to sit inside. To say it was stark is an understatement. It felt like we were eating in a back employee lunchroom, but it was air conditioned and no bugs! Excellent restaurant. When in Puerto Rico, I always try to have at least one meal here. The environment is always hot and humid but not unbearable - it is Puerto Rico, after all. They also have an air conditioned dining room, but I prefer to sit outside. The service is always decent and the food is excellent. They make a killer Stuffed Skirt Steak, with Grilled Chicken and Fried Banana (plantain), topped with a Tamarind sauce or Chimichurri sauce. I prefer the tangy Chimichurri over the Sweet Tamarind. It is true, every joint claims to have the best mojitos, but MAHI MAHI brings home the awards. Make sure to share the pitcher. I assure you that you will be wanting more than a cup of this local favorite. Try a pitcher of the flavored ones as well. Everything is prepared there for you at the moment, with brown or white sugar. The locals prefer brown sugar to give it a more earthy unrefined taste. However this is not the only thing you should get there. You should definitely open your visit with a surtido ( sampler) of all the delicious puerto rican fried specialty foods. As an entree, Try their typical dorado plates or if you really want to eat like a local get the mofongo y chicharron (de pollo o de cerdo). Chicharron is their fried meat and you can choose between chicken or pork. End your dinner or lunch with a dessert. My personal favorite is the creme brûlée but you can choose from the tres leches or their flavored flans (custards).Note: this place gets packed especially on the weekends.
