We got scammed and I feel like a total idiot! I wanted to share this store with my teenage daughter since I had gone to Maharaja's when I was her age. It USED TO BE COOL. We pulled on the door around 1:00 on a weekday afternoon. The door was locked but a store employee came and let us in. We looked around and my daughter liked the t-shirts and tapestries. We got to talking with the owner and I had mentioned I had come to Maharaja's when it was housed in the larger store. He said that it is next door and we can have a tour. We went next door and took a look at the black light room. On our way out my daughter found a shirt that the owner said was a one of a kind shirt by a local graffiti artist, Kater. He gave his price, which was EXPENSIVE. We decided to purchase the shirt. After the fact, we found out it was not one of a kind. Embarrassing. I want to share our experience so others can avoid this store. read more

They charge 4 times the amount for Kratom than the smoke shop 2miles west also on w 7th. Same vendor same weight. I noticed after the second time in the clerk doubled the price (8times of competitor)so I left and checked around. It's a predatory shop. Stay away. Didn't find the owner to be so bad. read more

I have passed this place many a time, and finally went in. We were dining with a Friend at Louis and wandered in after dinner. So glad we stopped in. We had a great time looking around, laughing, talking and reminiscing and my son loved chasing the cats around. Staff was fun and outgoing. We all loved looking at the old shirts, magazines, black light room, the rats, and lots of other stuff. Great place to visit and an add on to an already great night. read more

Poked around here this weekend when we found ourselves with a little extra time on our hands; the owner quickly proved himself to be a 5-star jerk. He berated his employees in front of us. He then chastised them for not marking all the stickers with prices, something he's told them to do and they should have done and why didn't they do it and blah blah blah. Then, when my partner complimented the staff for actually offering to help us, the owner "joked" that they're not allowed to talk to us and are in trouble for doing so. Except it wasn't funny, and it wasn't clear it was a joke. The cat was fat, the wares are to be expected, the staff was great, the owner was a jerk. read more

So I buy this ceramic water bong that start leaking water from the bottom. A large selection of overpriced junk. The owner is always hanging around making customers uncomfortable, imparting his unwelcome attitudes and opinions. It seems that this business exists so the owner can have access to customers so that he can berate and brow beat them. I have never encountered a shop owner with more disdain and vitriol for potential spenders of money. Weird scene in there, real strange. Not at all recommended for any reason whatsoever. read more

Stopped in to take a look on way to concert at the Xcel Energy Stadium. Place is really cool with a lot of stuff. Owner was super friendly. After ready past reviews was suprised why any one would bash this old guy. I wanted to stop back after the Show but it was closed. Plan on stopping again next Wild game. read more

Been going here since 2009. Collections of art and pieces are getting better and better. They keep St.Paul feeling young while being one of the oldest head shops in the country. Stop in, Ask for Inder or Jit and they will take care of you like family. read more

Very chill head shop type place. I've been to places with lower prices, but this place is so chill. They have store cats that are awesome and friendly. The workers were very nice and helpful. I went to buy a pipe and am very happy with it. read more

I've been to Maharaja's several times, and won't be going back. The first time I came in, I bought a small glass piece for about 350 percent of what it would have cost me at just about any other shop in town. The second time I was there, the items I purchased were also significantly overpriced. I went in tonight, and the item I had my eye on (which was identical to something I'd been shopping around for for awhile now) was more than three times the price that I'd seen charged for it elsewhere. If the overpricing weren't ridiculous to the point of being insulting, or if the overpricing were the only issue, I would keep going to this place because it's really the only fully blown (no pun intended) head shop by my house, but the thing is that the people who work there (including the owner) are really pretty condescending in general. I'm a pretty friendly guy, but good luck getting any of these people to smile or engage in conversation. I gave them one star for two reasons: 1) Yelp won't let me give them zero stars, and 2) it really does look nice inside, and the neighborhood is beautiful. I'm so done with this place, though. read more
