Example: Disposal of the dishwasher, he told me that since we bought the new dishwasher from Lowes that they will dispose at a cheaper price. He will deliver what he promised - ALL of IT! He cleans up after his work. WE ARE BLESSED: Overall, Robert did an excellent job. I had 25 applicants that wanted to rent the condo (in the fall season) all because Robert delivered quality work. My experience with Riechers Engineering for my SB9 lot split has been a bit frustrating…read more I was told by Riechers in late 2023 that they had customers in Los Angeles that they were currently doing SB9 lot splits for and on average it would take around 6-8 months to complete, but could be several months longer in some unique cases that run into obstacles. I have a very straight forward SB9 lot split parcel. Riechers officially started working on my lot split in July of 2024. It's now July 2026. 24 months later and it still isn't finalized - although it appears it's finally close to done. Here are a couple of the things that fell short: They sent me my Los Angeles City application for the lot split with obvious errors that I had to ask them to correct. They submitted an incomplete SB9 application package to the City and it was rejected as incomplete. Another declaration they sent me to sign for the City again contained errors and missing information. After taking much longer than they originally stated to get the lot split approved, they promised to update me every two weeks. That stopped and their job still isn't finished. Bottom line, they will get the job done, but know it could be much longer than advertised and I would be certain to check their work along the way.

Sadly, the fences in our area had finally aged out, and it was time to replace them. We had noticed…read morethe neighbors a few doors down had done all the fencing around their home, back, side, and front. Everything looked very good, and we asked who did the work. It was AB Fencing. Our neighbors wanted to replace the shared fence, so it fell to me to do a search. AB was top of my list, but I also wanted to get 5 comparative quotes. The first one was a non-starter, but the other four came out, and we discussed what could and should be done. After putting all 5 quotes into a spreadsheet, AB came out on top. With one area that made a special request on, AB was almost half off a couple of the quotes. Alfonso started the job when he said he would. He talked us through where and how he would do things and the stages of taking down the old fence and putting the new one up. He really powered through it, and the new fence looks amazing. He had some steep terrain to deal with, but did it all much faster than expected. The end result is amazing. We have an entirely new backyard. Behind us is a greenspace, and the new fence with the hogwire opens it up much more than the previous fence. He also added a gate so we can maintain the weeds and a bit of a firebreak. I highly recommend AB Fencing and Alfonso. Alfonso is VERY responsive, and the quality and workmanship have been very impressive.

What followed was nearly a year of mismanagement, broken commitments, and financial consequences I'm still dealing with. They no-showed on the agreed start date. I called them at 10am to find out why -- they told me they were stuck on another job. No warning, no proactive communication. It only got worse from there. The job stretched into months of sporadic work. Midway through, they told me they needed a subcontractor for core drilling -- something that should have been identified during scoping -- then let months pass without scheduling one. My property sat in a hazardous state the entire time: open holes covered only by wood boards, piles of excavated dirt, debris, and equipment surrounded by caution tape. My homeowner's insurance company conducted a routine inspection, found the condition of my property unacceptable, threatened to drop my policy, and ultimately imposed a $2,000 surcharge. Resolving that took significant time and effort. Faced with no resolution in sight, I was pressured into accepting a reduced scope of work -- specifically, no tiebacks. Tiebacks were explicitly included in my signed contract and shown on the job drawing. Without them, there is no guarantee my home will remain stable on the hillside. I paid $52,130 for a project that does not solve my problem. After agreeing to the reduced plan, it took more months to redraw plans and pull permits, then more weeks to schedule the final visit to seal holes and reconnect drainage. On that scheduled day, they no-showed. Again. When they arrived the next day, they left without finishing. Their excuse: my gardener had told them not to proceed. My gardener -- someone I know well and trust -- told me he said no such thing. Norcal did not just take direction from someone with no authority over my contract. They fabricated an excuse to walk off the job. This company demonstrated the same pattern of behavior from the very first day to the very last: no communication, no accountability, and no follow-through.
