My friend recommended Grape Tours and I felt relief as there was no easy way to have that kind of experience with 8 family members without a car. We selected Fabulous Tuscany! We walked to the wine and cheese shop right from our Airbnb in Florence. We were greeted by Rebecca at 8:45AM, and our driver for the day, Daniel at 9AM as planned. All 8 of us had an amazing day with Daniel visiting Campo Sasso with Pierre (and Frisbee their amazing pup!), sampling wine, balsamic and cheese (all incredible!) on their gorgeous country grounds. Then onto Tenuta La Novella, another beautiful winery with unique wine barrels and fabulous wine and honey to die for! Again the pups (Little Nana especially) kept us entertained. Our final stop was with Miscia at Tenuta Montiani and just wow! Miscia *and his pups!* shared a meal with us that was out of this world and his hospitality and stories top notch. One of the best days on our trip together and I highly recommend Rebecca and Pierre's special itinerary they put together for a varied winery experience! My only negative was it had to come to an end :( Thank you!!!

The countryside of Tuscany is breathtaking, that alone would make the trip worth it but the food and wine are just as stunning. The outside signs are all about the wine tasting and that was something I was not interested in. None of my group was actually into that either but they didn't want to wait to sit at the place we meant to go and this place had availability at that moment. We sat at the large wine barrel table at the front door because there were 4 of us and I felt a way since I was told to make sure not to block other guests. Then why put us here? I'm getting even more mad. Thankfully, I was completely wrong. Once we sat and one of the lovely sisters came to speak with us, I knew this was going to be a good time. They both were so gracious and knowledgeable, but also friendly and super funny. We didn't get the wine tasting but I heard them giving the people behind us one and I actually think I would have enjoyed it as well. The cocktails we did get were strong and delicious. With hosts like these, I'd come back here all the time.

After the rude greeting, the experience itself went smoothly - the farm has great views and the chefs did a nice job shuffling us between rooms for maximum efficiency as we prepared our meal. It was a bit of a bummer to not be able to choose our own gelato flavor to make (the were 30ish people total so they wanted us to divvy up flavors). We also had to wait a while to make our pizza since there were so many people in our group, but there was wine and good company for the wait! They were running out of some of the pizza toppings by the time we got to making ours at the end, but they still turned out delicious! The chefs were so entertaining and the food tasted great - it was nice to learn the process to make such a delicious Italian dinner. I can't wait to receive the recipes to make this meal all over again!! Thank you for a lovely experience!

That being said, I attempted to balance guided tours with my own explorations. I did not want to be part of a guided tour all day every day, so when one of my colleagues recommended Walkabout I inquired to see what they had to offer. I noticed that they had a 3-hour tour of the Piazza del Duomo which included a climb to the top of Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore Duomo di Firenze. This sounded perfect, so we decided to book it for our first full day in Firenze. Prior to my arrival in Firenze, I received correspondence from Walkabout with details about my tour. Via email and Whatsapp, I was given my start time as well as where to meet and who my tour guide will be. I booked a private tour, and I assume that's why they asked me where I was staying since my meeting point was about a 3-minute walk from my hotel. We met up with Lisa at the designated time, who gave us a quick rundown of the tour and shortly after that we got started. We began the tour in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo - we spent a good amount of time here looking at each of the exhibits, and Lisa did an excellent job going through all the details and history not only of the pieces but of the history of Firenze that shaped what we saw. The museum is noteworthy that it contains many of the original artifacts of the cathedral itself (they have been replaced by replicas in order to preserve the originals). The original doors of the Baptistery are also here, as well as a scale replica of the first three stories of the Cathedral in its original form. After some time in the museum, we made our way to the Cathedral to begin the climb. It's not the easiest climb I'll admit, as it's 400+ steps and there are points in the ascent that are tight with steep steps - but I would say it's totally worth it as the views up top are magnificent. You get panoramic views of the city so my camera was constantly clicking. While the climb concluded our tour, our tickets did include access to the Bell Tower and Baptistry which were valid over the next couple of days which I thought was a nice perk. Overall my experience with Walkabout was excellent - Lisa did an awesome job guiding us through the exhibits; she's very knowledgable, engaging, and really made this tour amazing. I would have no qualms booking a tour with them next time I'm in Florence.

We grabbed a bottle of wine on a warmer June afternoon after a day of exploring, which was definitely refreshing. The location isn't much as it overlooks a pretty bare piazza. The service can be a bit on the slower side, especially when I walked in and tried to get the bill. But still if you're able to get a table it's a pretty quaint wine bar. It seemed like they had some flights/tastings, which would have been an interesting option.

We were two couples and went for some wine and light snacks. When we arrived, there wasn't a table available for four, so we had to sit separately. Once a table behind our friends became available, we asked to move so we could sit closer together, but our server, Noemi, wasn't very accommodating and seemed somewhat annoyed by the request. We mentioned that we wanted to share a few dishes and asked about portion sizes, but Noemi didn't explain things clearly and wasn't very friendly. She insisted the plates weren't meant for sharing, which turned out not to be true. The wine itself was excellent, and the snacks were good -- but the overall service from Noemi felt unfriendly and not very customer-oriented. I'd still recommend the place if you're interested in trying great Italian wines, but be aware that the service experience may not match the quality of the wine.

Our final day was a visit to this winery based on the suggestion of our wedding planner. It was absolutely beautiful and one of the best experiences we had on the trip. Unfortunately the majority of our 20 people crew were very, very hungover from partying the night before so we called in advanced to ask them to switch the tour with lunch so that everyone could eat first and then take the tour. They were extremely accommodating (thankfully!!) and while everyone arrived very quiet and cloaked in their sunglasses, they were all lively, laughing and enjoying themselves once the food started coming. The winery also makes their own olive oil and as much as I ate during my trip to Italy, their toasted bread with olive oil and salt was hands down one of the best things I had. I'm still missing it! The staff lived onsite and gave us such a family greeting we felt right at home. Their wine was also divine. We moved on to the tour after lunch and our guide was very informative and patient with some of our crew who fell a little behind. It was so interesting to hear about their process for both their wine and olive oil. After the tour, there is a small gift shop with very affordable prices (we all expected the wine to be much more expensive). They gifted my husband and myself with a bottle of wine and olive oil as a gift for our wedding which was so sweet. A fantastic experience overall!

I can't believe I have lived here this long and have never been...until now! Finding it can be a bit of a challenge due to it's umbiguous location amongsnt the market traffic in San Lorenzo but once you find it - you pretty much feel like you've discovered a pot of gold. Well at leats, if you are a hungry wino like me. Very small inside, not much space to sit but pick what kind of bread you want and get that panino made. I got one filled with sun-dried tomatoes, burrata (heaven) and prosciutto. Their wine selection is very decent and I got a lambrusco secco which was heaven in a world where normally Lambrusco sucks. Total price for my panino and wine? 7 euros. Which for Italian 'fast slow food' is a bit high but it was so good, I didn't even think about it. So when you are in the center searching for THAT tiny place with great wine and good crostini & panini - head over to Casa del Vino and trust me.. try that burrata..
