There are also classes for adults MWFSS at 11:00 AM and evenings M-F at 6:15. They train in and study authentic Japanese Shotokan karate. Some classes are for advanced students. They also sell uniforms, belts, gloves. The wooden floor, tin ceiling, mirrors, ceiling fans and knotty pine paneled walls make for a real old school dojo feel. After the first lesson, he was given his white belt and beamed from ear to ear. Now it is a few months later and he still loves going there. Next month he will graduate to his yellow belt! The environment is friendly and casual. This is very much a family business. There are often three or four instructors for each class, which is great for the younger students. The class splits into various belt colors (white, yellow, orange) to suit their different skill levels. They play, exercise and practice respect and self defense. They also offer classes for adults, kids summer camp, host patents' nights out and birthday parties. They are pretty awesome.

His training began with an introductory assessment to determine if he was mature enough based on reasonable expectations for kids his age. We then had the option for a 3 class trial (including uniform) before committing to a program. In our case, my son enjoyed it and so we enrolled him. Since my son was interested, I also chose to enroll and begin my training. What makes Nackard Karate so special is the caliber of the instructors. They are incredibly patient with the kids but also teach important lessons around focus and following instructions (much needed in this digital age). For adult classes, there are no egos - the instructors are gracious with their time and care very much about instilling proper techniques.
