I expected so much more from River Mill. After looking at the website and reading reviews, I was…read moreexcited to eat dinner there. I always check websites. ALWAYS. I need to make sure they have something gluten-free I can eat and check to see if reservations are required. The website said nothing about needing one. I ate here on a Saturday night before going to a paranormal investigation at the Kintail Mill. The location is gorgeous and on the water. There is a large parking lot and ramp for wheelchairs. I have to be honest, when I stepped inside. I felt like I stepped back in time. I feel like this restaurant was a staple in the community way back when and hasn't evolved with the times quite enough. The outside is incredible brick face, but the walls are beige and there is heavy, dark brown furniture everywhere. The pattern in the carpet even felt dated to me. Nice light fixtures though. I could see an old grandfather clock from my table when I was seated. Had a bit of charm to it but added to the dated feel. I was put off immediately by the man who seated me. I told him I was 1 for dinner and I believe he asked if I had a reservation. I said no and he appeared flustered and, maybe I read him wrong, but thoroughly annoyed with my presence. I'm coming here to spend my hard-earned money, and I'm annoying you? I've said before, I don't cheap out on vaca eats and spent well over $100 with tip on this meal. I did not appreciate that first impression. The tables were covered in linen and it was, by my best description, an attempt at dated upscale. The kind of place Robert Irving needs to visit to revamp. The server and bartender though, they were younger than everyone else working there and both huge credits to the place. Anisah was my server, and she was friendly, engaging and perfect. I think she could tell I was a bit rattled and had a very calming way about her. The bartender made me the best margarita I ever had in my entire life. I think he put ground up unicorn horn in there or something! Anisah offered gluten-free bread with this amazing oil, which turned out to be some of the best I've had in a restaurant, and they don't add a surcharge like Chez Piggy does. But it's bread...great GF bread. Very much appreciated, but it's the main event that is make or break. I ordered the beef tenderloin and added lobster. The meal came out. It had what appeared to be a sweet potato puree, the tenderloin and a lobster tail. There was asparagus, of which I'm not fan, but I liked it on this plate. The puree was pretty good. The beef had a lot of flavour, enjoyed that. But the lobster tail. It was raw on the inside. If you blow up the photos, you can see it. I took a bite before I realized and it turned my stomach. Anisah took it back and it came back out overdone and rubbery. It also had a funny taste, like it had been in the freezer forever. And I'm reasonably sure it had been. The rest of the patrons were elderly, and don't get me wrong, I'm 56 myself, but I felt out of place or that maybe they were having some kind of event that I didn't belong being at. This feeling of being out of place persisted throughout the entire meal. In fact, I felt relieved when I walked out the front door. And I could taste that nasty freezerburnt lobster tail the entire 2-hour drive to Kintail Mill. I'm visiting Kingston again in October and definitely will NOT visit again. Anisah was incredible - she gets a 5 star from me - but she couldn't make up for the rest of the experience. I don't mind ever paying $100 for a meal, but that was not up to par.

The Dolce massage was amazing but do not include the River Mill Restaurant. We did and the…read morescallops came cold so I sent the back and they were still luke warm. When I ask why I was told you can only reheat them so much. I was shocked. I know I have high expectations but even my daughter said she would not eat them. We have spent 24 years in Southern CA and I know my sea food, that is one item on any menu that you do not reheat. You plan and hopefully the chief knows how quick they cook and can serve them hot. For $25 cook 4 new scallops and serve when done. My daughters chicken wrap was dry and finally had to request bread and olive oil to add flavor. The one good thing was the soup of the day was pipping hot but had to wait to long after requesting bread to the for dipping in the soup. It was worth the extra $50 to have a bottle of Prosecco so we were relaxed for the massages. Thank goodness this was not my Mother's Day lunch/brunch. I would not recommend if you have a palate for taste. I hate writing reviews like this but would have for a special occasion to end in disappointment.
