After calling the Malibu branch, I reached Ludo, who informed me they didn't have her size or the color she wanted. But he didn't stop there--he offered to track down a pair and mail them if he found them. He assured me her birthday would be saved and that we'd get her these shoes! To my surprise, he called the next day after tracking down a pair and mailed them right away, just in time for my girlfriend to receive them on her birthday. (He also included a very sweet birthday note.) The shoes went on to be, in her words, "the best pair of shoes I have ever owned." These shoes are fantastic, but equally fantastic are the people who sell them. Thank you again, Ludo!

Sadly, like most of the iconic businesses from my youth, Payless ShoeSource filed for bankruptcy and the famous footwear brand went under. Besides the cool shoes that I could pick out on my own... What I loved most about Payless... (Or should I say what my mom or dad who were paying loved most)... Was.... The infamous B.O.G.O offer: Yeah!!! The Buy One, Get One for 50% off deal!!! Aww yes, the good 'ol' days! --------------------- Fast forward 30 years... And now, I am a parent, a Dad who now has the honor to buy shoes for my own, three beautiful daughters as they gear up for the school year. But sadly there's no Payless ShoeSource to be found. ------------------- Enter the DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse!!! Yeah, things have changed a lot since the 90's. Now, instead of shopping at a small-box shoe store with maybe 6 aisles of footwear... We enter the Big-Box shoe warehouse with aisles and aisles of every style of shoe you can think of. But if you're looking for those cool "skater" Airwalks or those Rugged Outback work boots like I used to rock in the 90's pretending I was in Timbaland's crew... You ain't gonna find 'em. Located on the corner of Cross Creek Road and Civic Center Way, the store is a bit hidden off the PCH but still access is still quite easy. Parking in this area can be a challenge no matter which store you're attempting to visit but there are some hidden spots alongside the nursery and the thrift shop. Inside you will find two levels to the store. The top level consists of the normal gag gifts and other fun hi-jinx you're accustomed to find in all Urban Outfitters. What else you'll find on the top floor is their version of Bath and Body Works. There are plants and a bunch of other organic mubo-jumbo that I was surprised to see at Urban Outfitters. Although it was unusual the soaps and other items seem to fit well with an Urban Outfitters in Malibu. The lower level consists of the normal funny tees, loose hanging shirts, flannels, and skinny legged pants and jeans. Urban Outfitters isn't my normal go-to place for clothing but their funny gifts always seem to save me when I've procrastinated in buying a BDay present for one of my friends. At least this location has something new to offer.

This was easily one of the worst customer-service experiences I have ever had at a shoe store…read more The employees gave me shoes that I did not ask for, and when I went back to return them, the store refused to refund my money. Instead, they only offered store credit. That makes absolutely no sense when the return was caused by their mistake. I did not change my mind about the shoes--they handed me the wrong pair. Why would I want store credit at a store that already proved it cannot handle a basic purchase correctly? Giving me credit only forces me to spend my money there again, which is the last thing I want to do after this experience. The manager, Jan, made the situation even worse. They were rude, dismissive, and acted like they could not understand a very simple explanation. I had to repeat myself several times, and the conversation felt like I was trying to explain basic customer service to a teenager. Instead of listening and taking responsibility, Jan kept talking in circles and showed no real interest in solving the problem. A competent manager should understand that when the store gives a customer the wrong product, the customer should not be punished for it. Jan showed no accountability, no empathy, and no ability to handle a straightforward return professionally. Their attitude made it clear that keeping my money was more important than treating a customer fairly. This is a no-name shoe store acting like it is some luxury boutique, but the service does not come close to matching the attitude. People would honestly be better off going to Payless. At least there, you would probably get the shoes you actually asked for and deal with employees who understand basic communication. The entire experience felt cheap, disorganized, and unprofessional. They made the mistake, refused to correct it properly, and then treated me like I was the problem. I would not recommend this store to anyone. Check every item before you leave, because once they have your money, they apparently do not care whether they gave you the correct product.

Malibu Lumber Yard is like a girl that used to be hot in high school, got strung out on meth after…read moregraduation, and has been sober and getting her life back together for the past few years. It still looks like a nice building, but most of the units are vacant, the common area is missing some of the nicer decorations it had in the past (e.g., fishtanks, plants, etc.), and there is hardly any foot traffic. Hopefully they bounce back and get some tenants that will breathe some new life into the place, but based on how many people left and didn't come back after the fires earlier this year and how slow the rest of the city is recovering, it could be a while before we see any real improvement here.

I have never been to the Lumber Yard when it was busy or crowded, so it's a great spot to relax and chill for a bit. I like the outdoor aquariums. Very nice touch! I haven't shopped much here. Kitson always had cute, fun stuff but they are gone now. James Perse is cool and their shop is beautiful. I think many of the shops here are for women, so if you want ladies clothing with Malibu style, this would be a good spot. Café Habana. Excellent! The real reason to hit the Lumber Yard. For drinks or for a meal, I always enjoy this place.
