I couldn't be more thrilled with Magic Paws. They're fantastic with the dogs and always do exactly what you ask them to do. I have big dog, and he's a hairy beast. I don't get him groomed as often as I should so it's no small task but he always comes out of there looking like a million bucks. I have an epileptic JRT that I have to be careful with because if she gets too excited or scared she can go into seizures. Penny will meet me at the shop before they open so that I can stay with Sophie every step of the way to make sure she stays calm. That's so important to someone with a special needs dog. She's gentle with Sophie and very reassuring. I couldn't find a better, more caring place with more caring people. read more

I am quite suspicious of all the reviews on Magic Paws. My son and I went there with a newly adopted rescue dog who is nervous but behaved. Every single time I pass there including my appointment time, they have never been open on time. I was told by the "owner" on the phone that he would personally take care of my dog. He never showed up. Also, fabric seating covered in hair is disgusting in the waiting area. They just opened and it was never cleaned yet? Also fabric is NOT hygienic for fleas, ticks and anything else that cannot be cleaned. The 2 girls that were working there, were trimming a little dogs nails. The dog grew increasing upset to the point where he wasn't barking but screaming. The woman who brought the little dog in was upset and said her dog never acted that way before. They were twisting his leg determined to clip his nails and he started biting and screaming. The 2nd dog she brought in for grooming was in the back behind a curtain and it was also screaming. Lord knows what went on behind that curtain. I looked at my son and said let's leave and we never went back. The owner finally called me back after my complaint there, but it is dirty and poorly run and they have no patience with animals. I wouldn't talk a turtle there! read more

I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to shave my Shepherd Jordan being that she had cists everywhere, so I asked Bay Shore animal hospital if they knew of such a place and they suggested Magic Paws. So glad I went, they went above and beyond what I expected. Not only did they carefully shave my Shepherd, but they bathed her and drained her puss filled tumors. WOW. So beyond pleased with this place! I took my eleven year old Maltese here after a decade of taking him to a place that, on our last visit there, cut him up pretty badly and ended up infecting him. I was hesitant to try something new, especially because he'd been used to his normal groomer for ten plus years, but I'm so happy we took him to Magic Paws! It was twice the price of his normal groomer but I'd happily pay it because my dog was in AMAZING hands the entire time. He came home with the best cut he's had in the entire eleven years we've been taking him to groomers, he smelled amazing, his nails were cut perfectly, and everyone who worked there told us how behaved he was. I read the reviews on yelp about Magic Paws and decided to try it out. I took my three pound, Yorkshire Terrier and seemed very comfortable as soon as I took him out of his bag. I always worry about leaving my dog anywhere because he is so tiny and not many people treat your baby the way you do. Antonio, the groomer (not sure if he is the owner) had his puppy, Luna there and Bailey seemed to like her as well. He allowed Bailey some play time and when I returned Bailey seemed happy and at ease. Bailey looked great and smelled delicious! I asked him not to cut too much from his face fearing that he would leave his face uneven. However, he shaped him up and now I wish he would have cut it shorter. It was the first time & I always get scared trying someone new. Now that I know he does a great job, I'll ask for a shorter trim. I highly recommend this place and I'm happy I got a new groomer! Being a new resident in Long Island without many references, I was at one point very puzzled with finding both a new vet and a new dog groomer for my two pups that are comparable to what I (and they) had in Boerum Hill Brooklyn. I came across all the good reviews from Yelp on Magic Paws and decided to go for it. I am completely happy with how detailed of a job Penny did on my pups. They are real experts as it didn't take a lot of instruction but they know exactly the best way different dogs should look. i used to bring my dog to petco until they ran late and locked him in a kennel for 1 hr when they took him out he was frightened and tried to bite the groomer. my vet recommended magic paws and when I took him the lady sat on the couch with him and cuddled with him and off he went...they are wonderful....... read more

I am very disappointed in this place and will never bring my dog back. They kept my dog for 4 hours. My dog was upset when I came to pick him up and ran to the water bowl. He then started barking at Antonio. He was upset with him. The front floor looks filthy. I was charged 85 dollars and they just had to shave my dog except for his head and tail which I wanted trimmed. Usually my dog smells good for days but when I brought him home I had to smell his head to smell anything. They also didn't trim his tail. I had to shave the hair between his toes that same week. A week and a half later I had to shave his face again and trim his head and tail. What they did for 4hrs with my dog i"ll never know. This place is really bad and you should pay attention to your dog reactions. Don't even want to give them one star read more

Unfortunately, this groomer was unable to groom my cat. She is very sweet but does not have a lot of experience at the groomers. Since she turned 10 her coat is getting harder to keep tangle free. I called in advance, explained the situation and set up an appointment. They said they would only take her on a weekday, first thing in the morning, to help keep her in a more calm environment since she's a little older. I appreciated this extra consideration. However, my husband took time off work to bring her in on a weekday morning (they don't open until 10:30) and they were 15 minutes late opening up shop. Then, after he returns to his students, he is called and told that she can not be groomed today because she is not being cooperative. While they were vaguely apologetic, it was an inconvenience for nothing. I realize cats can be difficult to groom, which is why I was seeking professional help. I do not think they have a lot of cat experience. I would have preferred they just tell me that they don't do cats from the start. read more
