Any time I've had a question or concern, it's always been addressed quickly. I've always felt like my children were in good hands. Their parents hold the attitude that if they constantly study (after school, weekends, vacation, 24/7), only then will they succeed. I have observed several develop anxiety, and too many of them lack the ability to truly think for themselves. My point is, I did not even receive homework in lower school at all and still managed to grow into a capable, college educated adult. KWS (and Waldorf ed in general) actually puts careful thought into the development of children instead of treating them like mini robots. In response to Michael D: All schools have "risky social aspects", but that is due to the students, not the school. In my time at KWS, those who "indulged in pretty much all of it" were strongly dealt with by the school if the incident was on school grounds. Anything else is not the responsibility of the school, but your own, Michael. If you are concerned about what your kid is getting up to, perhaps take a look at your own parental discipline methods?

Not a safe or trustworthy place for your children…read more I am devastated that I did not write this review sooner in hopes it could have helped keep the two babies seriously injured there safe and out of this place. The teacher that is in jail for harming the babies was also my daughter's infant room teacher. Absolutely devastated for the babies and their families. Their lives will never be the same. And livid at the statement issued by the center. It is more of the same from them. My daughter was in the infant room at Oaks and early on we had concerns about the safety, unprofessional processes, and unwillingness of the Director as well as the previous or past owner to have open, honest, productive conversations about issues that came up. The Director literally said to me "Michelle, you just need to stop this and trust us". No, I will not just trust you or anyone with my infant. Our primary issues were: 1. Unsafe entrance in that anyone could walk through the doors by following others through with no checks or protocal for checking 2. No transparency when my daughter moved to the toddler room on who was changing her diapers even though this had been provided in the infant room and this became a battle with the director when it should have been an easy thing 3. Staff that was doing at least double duty as both carers and cleaners 4. A broken fence lock that was never fixed in the play area 5. My daughter always wanted to get the heck of there when I picked her up unlike the daycare that I moved her to where she sometimes doesn't want to leave for a good while after we get there 6. Some staff were very disheveled. I didn't want my daughter to think that was a normal way of being. After many attempts to be collaborative and open with the owners and the director, it was obvious that if a serious problem arose that these are not the people you'd want by your side to work through it. I left before anything serious happened. There is an incident I recall in the infant room where my daughter did have unexplained injuries while in the care of Catalina Baldwin while the other teacher was out on vacation. I thank god that it was not serious, but it could have been. The only explanation I ever got was that there was no incident at school and it probably happened at home or in her car seat. We were lucky.

They have not only sent my son to Kindergarten beyond prepared and ready to excel but my daughter now who is about to graduate this year and go to K next year is writing already and excelling in all of her skills. We can't believe how much she is learning not only academically but also socially. Miss Luci is an incredible hands on director. The teachers have all been there for years like barely any turnover. Susan, the director, has been very responsive and accommodating, and our daughter's teachers are loving and involved. I have found the building and outside area to be clean (the playground area is awesome), and I will echo one of the other parents that the teachers in the other rooms go out of their way to engage with parents and children who are not even assigned to their rooms. There is a nice sense of community here. In particular, Miss Saamara in the Cuddlebug room is outstanding. She is incredibly warm and sweet. Our child had some issues with separation anxiety at first and Miss Saamara would take her and walk her around the room while holding her, showing her pictures and talking to her in a soothing voice as I left. I would often pause for a minute outside the room to make sure my child stopped crying, and Miss Saamara always had her calmed within a minute or two. Now that she has adjusted to her classmates and teachers, our child is always happy and barely notices when we arrive to pick her up - she would rather keep playing! One of the other things I really liked about this program is that most of the teachers have been here much longer than other programs: 5-15 years. That made me very comfortable that the director knows the teachers well and that they are in this career because they love what they do. The reason for the 4 out of 5 star rating is that we have had two minor issues here, but I feel that these has been handled well by the teachers/director and were positively resolved. (a few late arrivals by a teacher which caused me to be late to work and one incident where I picked up my daughter and she had developed a high fever but I was not called. The teachers had not noticed due to it being about 80 degrees out and the children were outside playing.) Overall, I felt these incidents were minor and I felt the teachers and director responded quickly and appropriately to my concerns. I think that as we get more time under our belt here (we have only been enrolled 6 months) and no further issues arise, I would be very comfortable amending this rating to a 5 star.
