I haven't heard of or seen a school environment as comprehensive in child development as the Waldorf system. Their approach to academics is creative and instills in the child a love for learning. Along with all of the academics their is a strong interest in nature, the arts, music, and interpersonal development creating an environment that is deeply enriching and fulfilling. The Princeton Waldorf campus is beautiful and magical. The family community that develops along with the children is long lasting. The other key component is planned interaction between students of all 8 grades. Going into 3rd grade, with the same teacher my daughter had in 1st and 2nd grade, she was anticipating the classes and activities that are attributed annually to the 3rd grade. Yes, she will have woodwork. Yes, her class will play traditionally 3rd-grade roles in the fall festival. Yes, her class will go on the weeklong farm trip to New York. In the curriculum, Waldorf wrote-in these three and dozens of other activities that are predictable. That predictability creates student anticipation, participation and success.

I don't think I ever imagined that any school experience could be described as magical, but that's the word that kept popping into my head everyday at drop off and pick up. A week in the woods was a perfect change of pace for my little city kid. He swam in the campus pools each day, played games like tag and basketball, built with legos, dew pictures, built toy boats to use in the pool, and ate snacks provide by the school as well as the lunch we packed. He also had the chance to feed the school's sheep and chickens. By the end of the week, he was begging to return again in the future, so we'll definitely be looking into attending a camp again in the future.
