Good Minigolf on the island. Front side is breezy and easier. Backside is harder and can get muggy. Challenging holes and tons of fun.

Many trips to the beach call for a necessary round of putt putt. They have two courses, both with a difficult final hole. I'm really not to partial to one side or the other, they are both pretty great. The front course has better views but the carpeting is in need of some love in a few spots. The back has a good view of the sunset and has similar carpeting flaws. It's a fun way to spend some with friends and family while in Galveston. Come here in the evening, it's cooler and there's a pretty awesome sunset from here while you're playing. Plus it's right off the beach so what could be better? There's plenty of crazy holes and obstacles to dodge and go through (don't throw the club or hit any cars with a ball...even though I know you'll want to from time to time). Oh yeah, Magic Carpet also has snow cones in the summer and batting cages. Trying coming on an off day if you can, the weekends get really packed here. read more

I thought this place was great! My kids have never been miniature golfing, and we're staying at a condo nearby. We decided to try this place after dinner one night after seeing the Yelp reviews and seeing the deal they had advertised. It was a ton of fun! My four-year-old had some trouble with the various obstacles but had a delightful time anyway and was convinced she won. My six-year-old got better and better throughout the course and had a fantastic time. As soon as we finished, she asked to go again. As a previous reviewer said: "it is what you make of it". We played the front course (gulf view) and had a pretty good time. The facilities definitely need a facelift. Paint and some repairs could make a huge difference. There's also a plank about to break through the deck near the big pirate ship. Cash only? In 2016? Really?!?! There's not much to do in Galveston at night, so we usualy go to Magic Carpet. I will say, the front course is better than the back course. On a recent trip, we played the back course (at 9PM) and it was a mosquito fest. [Seriously, I am covered in bites. Def won't play that one at night.] The course is enjoyable, lots of different obstacles that I think are pretty unique. And overall, its good for all "skill" levels. It's $8/person- CASH ONLY. Here's my rant directed towards other players: We were behind the slowest group of "golfers" EVER. We are all here to have fun, but if there's three groups behind you play with some sort of urgency. Good mini golf course with a nice rambling lay out. The grass here has seen better days and the turf on the courses needs to be replaced. The figures and obstacles on the course are a bit dated and offer little in the way of challenge on most courses. I noticed alot of the ball cups where scuffed and dinged up pretty bad. I know it's just mini golf but a little attention to detail goes along way in my eyes. If you hit your ball in the last feature just right you win a free pass to play another day. Pretty cool idea. It's been awhile since I've played putt putt golf so I wasn't really sure what to expect when my friend recommended coming here. I'm so happy I took her up on that recommendation because i truely had a good time playing golf with my man. What makes it so fun is the challenges of the holes. You actually have to shoot through little obstacles to get the ball closer to the hole which makes the game so much more exciting and interesting. You have two courses to choose from, one with the ocean view and one in the back. We chose the ocean view. Now that I'm looking at the different reviews, I probably should've gone with the back but nonetheless I had a blast! I can't wait to go again! My wife and I enjoy mini golf. We will play it on a good course or a bad one. Magic Carpet has 2 courses, but we only had the chance to play one. It was fun, interesting, and challenging. There were some elements that seemed a bit run down, maybe due to other guests damaging the holes or due to the local weather. However, despite this, we had fun. It was quite warm and some areas don't get a lot of breeze at times. As has been noted by many other users, Magic Carpet is a cash only facility. read more

This is a fun miniature golf course located near the seawall. Bring cash or check (of all things) as they do NOT accept credit or debit cards as payment. There is no on site atm however there is one less than a block away at a Valero gas station. They have two courses. The back course, further away from the seawall, is the more difficult course with the front course being slightly easier albeit with a better view of the gulf. The back is more shaded and so I recommend this course if you are playing it in the summer. Both are fun courses with their own challenges. They do a good job at keeping the courses in playable shape. I enjoy the fact that they are playing modern music on the course. This is a perfect place to take a date. There are also batting cages on site however I have never used them. The cost per person to play either course is $10 at the time of this review. Best old school putt putt course around all of Houston. They have all the old school putt putt obstacles. The Wind Mill, pendulum, even a moving knight. You won't be disappointed if you love old school putt putt. Oh and Bring cash it's that old school. read more

Although it's clear that this place's prime was in the past, it's still a hidden gem on Galveston Island. It doesn't look like much when you drive pass it, but don't let their front fool you, it has some of the coolest holes of putt putt on their back "harder" 18 round course. They have some of the most unique course designs, and they were an absolute blast to play. Yes, a few seemed to have moving parts that no longer move and need some love, but it didn't take away from the fun at all. They have a nice blend of luck and skill to hit a low par. It was decently priced around $9 per person for 18 holes. If you only do one course, go the back side route, but I'd highly recommend you play both! We spent several hours playing through with 3 of us. We were 3 grown adults and we had fun, kids would also find this to a blast - as the front 18 holes offer easier putts, but still unique and fun holes. Worth the trip! And when you're done, there is a shopping center strip right next to it - walk over and go through the kite store (it's super cool!) and grab fried Oreos or ice cream from the cafe on the end. read more

The Magic Carpet is what you make of it - it does need some paint, perhaps a little bit of love for the mechanical, moving parts of the golf course, but I sincerely think it's worthwhile to visit. If you're expecting a grand mini golf experience, this may not be for you. However, if you want to kill some time and have a bit of fun for cheap, try it out. I thought 8 dollars per person was reasonable. And most of the moving mini golf courses were cute! Classic windmill, the chicken coop, the conch shell, the alligator, and so many more were fun to do. We laughed a lot at most of the displays. There were no bug issues when I played. And I must say that the view of the beach from the golf course is pretty sweet, too. read more

Exactly as 'perfect' as it should be. They traps were awesome, and a little rundown which is sort of, well, perfect. Kitschy and rad. My two little boys had so much fun and the person working the desk was extremely patient while my 4 year old took his sweet time throwing a massive fit. ;) He recovered and we played the front nine. What a beautiful gem with a beautiful view! The owner really cares about his customers and goes the extra mile to make you and your guests happy. Great customer service is rare especially with this generation of young adults who don't know what eye contact is anymore. There's 2 courses. We started with easier course but the family in front of us weren't watching their annoying children and the kids kept standing on our putting greens and then proceeded to pick up our golf balls every time we set them down. So after 9 holes we asked if we could do more difficult course with less kids and the gentlemen said of course with a smile and asked no more questions. Wow! We were impressed! My wife and I love this mini golf course. Unlike most putt putt / mini golf courses, this one actually has structures/things/obstacles that you have to hit the ball into. It is a lot of fun and pretty challenging. The views of the ocean are great too. We have played both sides numerous times and both sides are great and lots of fun.
