The Magic Beans Work! Me and my wife have been using Megan at Magic Beans Landscaping for over a year now and have been nothing but impressed from the first day. Any of the crew members that come out for our weekly service are so professional, courteous, and overall awesome. They always take the time time to answer any questions that we have and offer us advice for improving the lawn and landscaping. Megan was very prompt to respond to email inquiries and very budget friendly. The results from her work are above our expectations every time and I can easily say, "The Magic Beans worked for me". From the beginning, Megan, has been completely unprofessional. She basically named 100 plants and asked me which ones I liked. Then for $100 she created a couple landscape draw ups for my yard. That is where I should have ended the relationship. She was delayed in planting. The first day was spent just dropping things off in my yard. The second she tried to get other workers at our house to relocate those plants for her until she was told they didn't even work for her. Then she had one guy plant as much as possible- she never stayed to help or discuss the yard with me in person. The poor guy would show up at 2pm and work until 7pm unless it rained, which it did daily. The estimated 2 day install took over a week. She ordered the wrong number of plants for our yard and tried to charge us to get them. The worker left plant buckets and a huge pile of dirt in our yard- she never even came by to Inspect the job afterwards. One of our plants died within a month of install, and she just said, "per our contract, I'm not responsible for irrigation or plant care after install." No common courtesy or advice, I had to ask multiple times just for plant care tips and advice. I do not recommend this company unless you have 7k to burn and don't mind dying plants and zero customer service. read more

Awful! I didn't hire them but my neighbor did and it was a completely mismanaged project. I had property stolen, damage to my property, was harassed by them, they looked in my windows, screamed at me, dropped massive debris in my yard, left nails in the surrounding street,, damaged my car, total nightmare contractor. Feel free to contact me for photos and videos of all of the above. Never hire this crew. Meghan is beyond unprofessional and causes significant drama, delays, and her quality of work and awareness of neighbors resulted in dozens of interactions with the police along with criminal trespassing warning due to the ongoing harassment and damages caused by the owner of this business. read more

I had a terrible experience with this business. I hired her to cut down an ash sapling in my front yard. I showed her the exact sapling. Instead, she cut down a healthy 17 year old viburnum. It was devastating. Initially she offered to replace the viburnum but then she quit taking my calls..... I've spent hundreds trying to fix this problem but the damage is irreparable..... read more

The actual work that Magic Beans does is very good. However the business practices make me unable to recommend them. Their first engagement was for a spring cleaning. They came out and did an estimate and I approved the work. Halfway through the work they told me it would cost roughly double the estimate, or they could stop work and leave the project halfway completed. Everything was visible during the estimate, and if these are true professionals, they would understand what work is required. In retrospect I believe they low-balled the bid and planned the up-sell, as I have seen other folks making a similar statement that the work price changed mid-project. Following this, there was miscommunication where Megan sent a text that implied they would be doing ongoing maintenance. While the text stated they would be coming out weekly, the price was about the same as what they quote in their monthly contract at $220/month for maintenance of a mid-sized yard. (Their actual contract document shows a somewhat lower price). Regardless, Magic Beans actually did not do any work, and after a month the place was growing significant weeds again. I asked Megan to look at this and advise me what was needed. A short time later she replies that they have already started work and want almost $1400 - and that the previous quote of $220 was per week. That is utterly ludicrous. $1000/month for maintaining a Martin Acres yard? But she was going to discount it by30% because of the communication problem. Since she already started work, she wanted me to pay the whole price or "half and they will stop work then." This all happened within an hour and a half of my message. There is no way that more than an hour of work had occurred at that time. At no time had I told her to start work. In the end, I paid her for one hour of labor at her absolutely unfounded labor rate of $75/person for 2 people for an hour. I feel this was still an extortionate amount and especially since I had not approved the work. As I said at the beginning, the actual work is good. But they are way beyond expensive, and I feel that they use deceptive business practices. If you use them, be sure to have an absolute agreement as to scope and prices. read more

LOOK Out! I am stunned to see someone of Megan's character actually being allowed to do any business in Boulder. I am new at getting snow removal done but talked to her at length about being able to terminate our relationship if it did not work out. WELLL we had a storm and for the first time her crew came over to shovel my walks (NOT EVEN DRIVE) She charged me 180.00 dollars to just do my front entry and walks. THEN when i told her this was not going to work out for me, she had me pay a 100 dollar fee to terminate contract. I had seen that clause and tried to redact it but the computer would not take changes so i was stupid enough to sign on thinking she was a woman of her word as she said NO problem with termination. i have lived in Boulder for over 40 years and she is absolutely the most obnoxious underhanded business person I have ever delt with Sham on me for being so trusting so i paid 280.00 dollars for a job that I now pay a wonderful company 40 to do snow removal. LOOK OUT those thinking of using her various businesses. This new design company Banich I am sure she will find new and better ways to rip one off Good luck if you EVER think of using her company. Megan and her company sounds adequate at yard clean up and snow based on other reviews, however steer clear for any landscaping projects! We had hope in the artistic vision, however Megan's unprofessional behavior and clear lack of experience has been disappointing. To make this brief, Megan: 1. Ordered the wrong pavers and then blamed us for it (despite us contacting her, us clearly stating we were concerned she would order the wrong pavers based on her information) 2. She played music rather loud and into borderline late times, disturbing our neighbors. My husband had to ask her to turn it down and to wrap up for the night. 3. She brought her dogs and left them barking in her car to the job site, which concerned our neighbors who confronted them. 4. She had a loud verbal altercation with her coworker outside our house, causing us much embarrassment. 5. She clearly did not know how to properly bid the project and asked for more money, which we gave to her. However, when we corrected her paver error, she refused to return the difference (the pavers we wanted were cheaper than what she had ordered). 6. She and her team left 3+ trashbins full of debris, rocks, dirt, concrete, empty concrete bags, etc. in the alley and infringing on our neighbors driveway. She refused to clear it stating (from an email) "I never once on the contract stated that I would take away trash from the property, you can go to the contract and view this yourself" ~Megan Banich). Eventually my husband cleaned it and the debris is in our garage where will are paying to have it removed. 7. The work is only mediocre. My husband and I are installing the correct pavers ourselves since she ordered the wrong ones. The irrigation lines are not buried properly. Some concrete work has exposed rebar and is already crumbling away at the bottom. It wouldn't be as stressful if she was willing to review what they charged and come to agreements, however she is extremely aggressive and has no customer service skills. Throughout the entire experience, we were made to feel like we were being difficult, which is simply not true and not who my husband or I are as people. She said we keep making changes to the plans, which was also not true. It was almost bizarre how she would accuse us of making changes, however it was because she kept making mistakes on what we wanted. Anytime we corrected her, she called it a "change". There is some sort of mental disconnect on that one. There are so many great landscapers we wish we would have hired. We wanted to give this young company a chance but we regret it. Yard clean up and snow removal sounds appropriate for them, but if you need anything more skilled, please hire someone else. read more

Megan and Magic Beans was extremely easy to reach out to and get her to come out and give me a quote. Once it was time to start the work there were some issues on their part renting a trailer (not a problem once she explained the cause to me). They were doing a great job but after almost a full day of work Megan texted me that the scope of the work turned out to be a lot bigger and that she was not going to be able to finish the work for the price that she had set. I get that jobs can get out of hand but only 1/10th of the job was actually done. At this point she charged based on itemized costs, which we never agreed to. If you are dead set on working with Magic Beans make sure that you have a VERY clear contract stating exactly what work is going to be done and at what price. Otherwise expect for the costs to be on YOU if Megan doesn't provide an appropriate quote. Also, side note but minor annoyance. She brought her dog to the job and left the dog's waste after leaving. read more

My neighbor worked with this company and let me tell you I'm glad I didn't as I was about to call them for a quote . Megan the owner left her dogs in the truck all day. The poor dogs were barking non stop. She took them for a walk once and didn't clean up the dogs poop. When my neighbor left the house about 10 minutes later I noticed a funky smell come to find out Megan is smoking marijuana on the property. After about 15 minutes she is smoking a cigarette on the property. I know my neighbor didn't allow that because she has asthma and even the faint smell of smoke will cause her problems. I had to shut my windows because of the smell and the music which was sad because it was It was such a beautiful day. I thought it couldn't get any worse but then I heard an altercation, come to find Megan yelling at someone. I couldn't tell if it was an employee or someone on the phone. She was yelling for several minutes. After that I had to leave my home. I couldn't handle the disturbance anymore. After returning home I asked my neighbor to see their work and I could barley tell a difference and the price she told me was a rip off. Unless you are ok with dog poop, barking dogs, yelling, loud music, high prices and marijuana/ cigarette smoke I don't recommend this company. They are so unprofessional and unkind to neighbors and property owners. It's a shame. read more
