I booked a car with MAGGIORE in January this year to be collected at Venice airport on June 6 but in May I had to change the pick-up location to Milan because Qatar Airways stopped flying to Venice. I managed to speak to MAGGIORE  staff and was told that MAGGIORE was unable to change the location so MAGGIORE suggested me to cancel the booking which I did. MAGGIORE did sent me the email cancellation confirmation on May 31 but  MAGGIORE never refunded the rental fee of about Euro596.92. I sent many emails for weeks which were only replied by auto-messages. Finally I received an email confirmation on July 31 that they will repay within 15 days however to date still no refund. MAGGIORE is owned by AVIS so I tried contacting AVIS in the hope they can assist and push for payment but no success to date. Do NOT use MAGGIORE is clearly a scam company! read more

Really disappointed with the billing practices here. Rented a car in April 2025, and the final charges were nothing like what was quoted. Problems: - Prepaid €1,217 online, but charged much more at pickup - Added fees for things already included in my booking - €150 "upgrade" charge though I got an economy car as reserved - Total overcharge of about €1,347 The pickup process was rushed and confusing. Staff seemed impatient to explain charges. Now back home, I've emailed multiple times with no response. Would not recommend. Try other rental companies in the area. read more

I wish i could say Maggiore Car Rental are scammers. However they are worse than that. CROOKS, BANDITS, CHEATS, LIARS sums up my experience. We rented a car for 2 weeks at their office in the Rome airport, and were completely lied to. Let me explain my wife and I travel to Italy twice a year and always rent a car. This was the first time we used Maggiore as their price was the cheapest. Too good to be true! Our quote of $491.17 became $2100.00. On picking up the vehicle we showed them our reservation number and price and all seemed to be ok. We signed some paperwork explaining the different coverages we had. Not one page had any prices on it. We were given a sheet of paper explaining where to pick up the car. No copy of the contract was given to us, instead we were told it would be emailed to us later that day. Three days later we received an email with a bill of $2100++. I called the Rome rental office and was advised to call the Customer Service number which seems to always be busy. What to do? we contacted our bank and filed a dispute. This is not over by any means. Please to anyone wanting to rent a car in Italy don't use Maggiore. Avis should be ashamed of themselves being affiliated with them. Review of Maggiore Car Rental Venice - Booking #20221996IT4 I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience with Maggiore and feel compelled to submit a review and warn others regarding the handling of my rental and customer service at Venice. When I picked up the car on April 23rd, I was rushed due to the imminent closing of the rental office and the urgency of leaving my 15-year-old daughter alone with our luggage. I was tired, in a hurry, without my glasses, and trying my best to understand everything in Italian. Despite thinking I had confirmed my preferred options online beforehand, I later discovered that full comprehensive insurance had been added to my rental agreement -- something I did not knowingly agree to. As soon as I realized the mistake that same night, I attempted to contact Maggiore repeatedly -- I emailed three times and called three times (no answer) the very next morning asking for the charge to be corrected or at least reduced from the second day onward. My concerns were dismissed, and I was told there was nothing that could be done, even though I had acted promptly. I was simply referred to your policy without any meaningful resolution or willingness to investigate the miscommunication. The additional €700 charge for insurance -- more than the rental itself -- had a significant impact on my travel budget and greatly affected my vacation in Italy. I feel this was not only unfair but that I was taken advantage of in a vulnerable moment. Your customer service, both at the branch and via email, showed no willingness to help despite my repeated, immediate efforts to resolve the issue. I have requested that Maggiore formally review this case and respond with a fair resolution several times with no answers. I also requested clear information about your formal complaints process an again no answers. Based on this experience, I will not be recommending Maggiore to friends or family, and I am currently exploring options to escalate this issue further if necessary. Angelica read more

They are LIARS!! Do not rent from here. They will give you broken cars and will tell you they are "brand new". After we took the car, 10 mins later, we stopped at a supermarket and we've noticed it was scratched. We had to pay 200€ (deposit) + another 485€. Take pictures before!! read more

I rented an electric fiat with a battery that runs ~150km on full charge, and I was not warned or given advice on what I need in order to charge it (turns out regular credit cards don't work at most charging stations in Rome/Naples, and the apps were not working successfully, some saying that they "are not available in your country." We ended up having the car towed without getting to our destination since we could not charge it (after over 6h of trying), and all attempts to contact Maggiore for help were not successful (at one point it said the number you have dialed is unreachable, which I assume meant they were closed for the day? This was me contacting Maggiore Rome AND Napoli). We had FULL insurance on the car and we ended up taking a taxi from Naples to Rome (we had missed the last bus and train back and needed to catch flights at 5am in Rome), and this should be covered by our insurance but attempts to get reimbursed have gone unanswered. So no, I will not be recommending Maggiore to anyone read more

A absolutely immoral disgusting company to use. I was ripped off. I was double charged, once when I hired the car then at the end almost the same amount again. 9 days, over £1000. If I knew that was what I was signing for I would not have signed. What a con. This car hire has been more than double of any I have paid on any holiday. The car in fact was not the one I ordered, it was too small for our needs. It was chaos when getting the car and took over 2 hours to arrange this 'wrong car'. The person also wanted to charge us for existing damage on the car but luckily we had photos to prove we did not damage it. Utterly appalling company to use. RIPPED OFF!!! read more

Avoid at all cost. They might be cheap, but they are not worth it. After returning the car, they pulled over 1500 EUR from our card for 'damages'. Of course there were no damages from our use, and all their evidence that they provided was from old incidents. We had photographed the major ones, like missing a side bumper and so on, but of course Maggiore took the time to find smaller ones. Never use Maggiore. read more

This car rental service will begin and end your Italy trip with terrible treatment and overcharging. We arrived at 12:56pm, but our reservation began at noon. We were informed that the car we reserved (Jeep Renegade) was rented to someone else. We had two options, 1. Wait for the car we reserved to be returned. 2. Pay an additional fee to "upgrade" the car. We asked how long we would have to wait, and the woman said she didn't know. After 14+ hours of traveling, we decided to take the car that was available. The contract was in Italian, and the woman who spoke broken English had us sign the papers. When booking on WiseCars.com, the total was €208. We were charged €512 (which she said was a deposit). When we returned the car, the gentleman taking the keys said the upgrade should have been "complimentary." We went to the desk to discuss this with the staff at Maggiore. The man told us we should not have signed the contract if we didn't want to have the upgrade. They did not ever mention that we should not have paid it in the first place. After reading the reviews, it seems that this is a common tactic of Maggiore. Stick with Hertz or another reputable company. This truly was a scam, and an extremely frustrating situation. read more

Nice reliable hybrid car but after showing up late for my rental at Linate Airport in Milan the extra fee was 236 American dollars --seems so unreasonable. read more

I have had a terrible experience with Maggiore car rental also. I rented a car thru rentalcars.com and they use Maggiore. Do NOT use rentalcars.com either. Not only did I get a terrible service when I got to the office, waited for a very long time, had to go off site to print a copy of my confirmation page because just providing them with a confirmation number was nit enough, BUT when I got back I got home, I received 3 additional charges from them. One because supposedly I returned the car 34 minutes late and they charged me an extra day. I was NOT late arriving at their center, it just took them an hour to check me in. Once checked in, I asked if everything was in order and they said everything is fine. I asked if i need something to reflect that the car was returned in time and everything was in order and they said no. 2 months later I get a charge that my credit card company says that unless I have proof that the car was returned on time they cannot do anything. The other 2 charges are from 2 supposed tickets that I got while I had the car. I did not get any tickets. Will never use this company again. Neither should you! read more

Avoid at all cost. The car we rented from them broke down somewhere on a mountain road, nearly sending us to an early (yet scenic) death. Luckily we were near an eco-tourismo farm, and they were kind enough to let us use their phone and call Maggiore for a tow truck. We waited for hours to the tow truck, no one came. We called again, they were rude on the phone and had no recollection of the previous phone call, but said they'll send someone now. Again no one came. We called again. This repeated several times for several hours, with not a single apology from Maggiore and while we're stranded at the side of the road and it's getting colder and darker around. We ended up staying the night on the farm. Thank god for eco-tourismo farms and the kindness of Italians that are not Maggiore's employees. The story didn't end there. We kept getting rude and dismissing responses from Maggiore's representatives, 2 whole days of our trip were wasted, the replacement car we got had a broken GPS and no fuel (although we had to return it with full tank, it was in our contract), and the icing on the cake- Maggiore tried to charge us extra 800 Euros for fixing their car that nearly killed us. Bottom line- don't let Maggiore ruin your trip. Avoid this company at all cost. read more

Rented a car for one day at Treviso airport, needed it for 25 hours. Maggiore has an option to pay a little extra and return it two hours late. This suited my needs. Rented the car, turned it in, everything OK. Next day, I receive an invoice that includes one additional day charge :-( They scrapped the "late return" lineitem from the revised invoice, and just charged my credit card. They are not answering the phone nor reponding to emails. In other words: simple thieves. DO NOT GO THERE! read more

DO NOT RENT-SCAM! I rented a car through holidayautos.com in June 2017 from the Fiumicino airport. I was double/over charged by Maggiore AND they just tried to charge me again in November!! I was charged once by holidayautos.com and twice by Maggiore, totally well over $1000 (was quoted $220). I have tried to get the charges refunded by both Holiday Auto and Maggiore but have gotten the run around for the last 5 months. Absolutely ridiculous. DO NOT USE either of these companies. read more

Rented at Milano Centrale. Since I paid in advance I expected the process to go quickly. Two people ahead of me and it took almost 40 minutes to complete the process. Had to walk a bit to pick up the vehicle ...... not a problem but when I arrived I had to wait again to wash the car and then had to follow one of their people to a service station to fill up ... REALLY? Customer service rating in my opinion is low but what made the experience difficult is that the cigarette lighter in the car didn't work so we were unable to charge our GPS or phones. Luckily we made it to our destination with bare minimum of power left on the GPS. Overall not a positive experience with Maggiore. read more

Having been to Italy many times and having lived there for three years past, Maggiore Rental Cars are WORST experience of renting in Italy. They first flim-flamed us for an extra driver at Venice Airport Maggiore Car Rental when the person named was Clearly Infirmed and unable physically to drive at Anytime. They insisted on buying their insurance which did not amount to anything since they charged me over $500 for a few dents incurred while driving the car. They then followed up with more bills saying that they were administrative in nature. I flatly refused the latter even though it did not amount to much. Avoid Maggiore Rental Cars at all instances, they are Crooks and will Bilk you for any money they can get illegally or otherwise. read more

I am very very upset with this company I reserved a Monospace category for my vacation in Sicily and enquired with the rental company (Maggiore) two days before pick-up to ensure they would have the category in stock. They confirmed this. When picking up the car in Palermo Airport, they told me they only had a Peugeot 508 SW (Break /estate) and that it was "take it or leave it" in a very rude tone. I went on their parking lot and saw a large monospace Peugeot (a 807 ). I enquired about it and they screamed at me and told me "I knew nothing" and that the car was broken. I had no option than pick up the car but when leaving the parking lot I was someone driving out with this Peugeot 807. They had lied to me !!! Also, the car was full of dents and scratches, many of them not reported on the rental contract and I had to fight to get them added on the contract. I took pictures to be safe. The good news is that I had no issue when bringing back the car but have not yet seen how much they charged me on my credit card. I could not get a statement that my car had been returned in the same cndition and with the fuel tank full - amazing ! Avoid this company at all cost. read more
